GREAT LAKES REGION The 2026 Great Lakes Regional Conference, held in Detroit, Michigan, from April 9–12, was a powerful demonstration of fellowship, leadership, and the enduring commitment of the brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. to our Fraternity’s mission and values. It was also a humbling and historic moment for me personally, as I was elected to serve as the 34th Great Lakes Regional Director. I am truly honored by the confidence the Brotherhood has placed in me and deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve this outstanding region. I also extend my sincere appreciation to our Immediate Past Regional Director, Dr. Willie C. Garrett, for his years of dedicated leadership, faithful service, and unwavering commitment to advancing Phi Beta Sigma throughout the Great Lakes Region. His leadership has left a lasting impact, and our region is stronger because of his vision and dedication. As we begin this next chapter, I am excited to lead with a vision rooted in “Brotherhood in Action, Leadership in Motion.” This is more than a theme— it is a call to action. It challenges every brother, every chapter, and every leader throughout our region to move with purpose, serve with intention, and strengthen the bonds that unite us. THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH The Michigan brothers warmly greeted the Brotherhood as they began arriving in the Motor City – Detroit, Michigan. While some arrived early on Wednesday, the majority of brothers arrived Thursday morning, quickly registering for the conference. As evening fell, attendees gathered for The Opening Ceremony, celebrating the start of the joint conference alongside the women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. The program welcomed members of the Divine Nine and the public, setting an inspiring tone for a weekend dedicated to the theme “Achieve the Extraordinary.” This weekend focused on unity, leadership, service, and the powerful partnership between Phi Beta Sigma and its sister organization, Zeta Phi Beta.

FRIDAY, APRIL 10TH The energy was palpable as
brothers from across the Great Lakes Region converged for a
dynamic start to the conference.
The day kicked off with registration, followed by brothers downloading the electronic voting system and participating in mock elections
to ensure smooth sailing for the upcoming business sessions. The official opening of the
conference was marked by the Regional Director, Dr. Willie C.
Garrett, who welcomed everyone warmly and set an inspiring tone
for the days ahead. Throughout the morning and afternoon, brothers
engaged in lively Plenary Sessions, debating legislation, listening to
committee reports, and handling the vital matters of the region.
Beyond the sessions, brothers
explored the Sigma Market, where
vendors displayed fraternity apparel, accessories, and merchandise. The Sigma Wellness Health Fair and
Career Fair also drew attendees dedicated to enhancing their
personal, professional, and physical well-being—true commitments of the Fraternity to its members.

BROTHERHOOD The Doorway to our future: Reflecting on our strengths, pioneering pathways forward
“Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise.” – Kobe Bryant Brothers from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Eastern Tennessee gathered in the Queen City of Charlotte,
North Carolina on Saturday, March 28, 2026 for the 71st Southeastern Regional Conference. Typically, a two-day
event, the conference was abbreviated to one day due to major electrical issues at the host hotel.
Kobe Bryant’s iconic quote embodies his world-renown
“Mamba Mentality”. Rather than letting obstacles defeat
you, this mindset turns every setback and high-pressure
situation into a vehicle for achievement. It embodies one
of the rules Sigma men measure themselves by – which is
preserverence – and that is exactly what the brothers of the
“Super” Southeastern Region did this past Spring – persevere. Discussions to reschedule or switch to a virtual conference
went down to the wire, but Brother Sayeed Ullah, Conference Planning Chair, Brother Vendell Brooks, Co-chair, and the
conference planning team did a masterful job managing the
situation through extreme ambiguity, identifying solutions, and ensuring the key elements of the conference were still fully executed.
Even with these challenges, more than 350 brothers attended the conference for a full day of business and brotherhood.

The conference theme, Brotherhood: The Doorway to Our
Future: Reflecting on Our Strengths, Pioneering Pathways Forward, was intentionally selected to emphasize both
reflection and progress. As we examined the strong foundation upon which Phi Beta Sigma has been built, the conference challenged brothers to explore innovative approaches to
leadership, service, and programmatic excellence. Attendees focused on strengthening the brotherhood while positioning the region for sustained growth and relevance. International reports and membership updates
Kicking things off were reports from the International Officers and departments. International President, Honorable Brother David A. Turner, brought greetings on behalf of the fraternity
and General Board, and shared priority updates to the region. International First Vice President, Brother Malwan Johnson,
delivered the fraternity’s membership report, sharing that the membership continues to grow year over year.
Although the Southeastern Region has the fewest number
of states at 2 ½, it is currently the 5th largest region; not far
behind both the Great Lakes and Gulf Coast Regions. North
Carolina, with approximately 1,200 members, is currently the 3rd largest state in Phi Beta Sigma.

Regional reports After the awards luncheon, it was back to business and time for the
Southeastern Region leaders to present their reports. Starting things off, Brother Richard L. Boone shared his final Regional Director’s Report, providing the State of the Region and highlighting its achievements, challenges, and strategic priorities.
Through Brother Boone’s leadership, which began in April 2022, the Southeastern Region:
• Initiated 833 members
• Chartered six and reactivated four chapters
• Chartered the Region's first international chapter in
London, England (before transferring to the Eastern Region)
• Chartered an NPHC chapter in London

WESTERN REGION The 68th Western Regional Conference marked another milestone in the Western Region's enduring legacy of

Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Los Angeles, California, the
conference brought together brothers from across the region
for several days of leadership development, collaboration, and meaningful fellowship. The success of this premier event was made possible through the generous support of our valued
sponsors: Border States, Citibank, Macy's, and the Mervyn M. Dymally African American Political & Economic Institute who helped create an unforgettable experience centered on the continued advancement of our Brotherhood.
Throughout the conference, Brothers participated in a robust schedule of educational and professional development
opportunities designed to strengthen chapters and empower brothers. Training and certification sessions, along with
programming workshops, provided valuable tools, innovative strategies, and best practices that will enhance the impact of our Fraternity in the communities we serve.
The conference also featured an outstanding lineup of
distinguished guests and memorable experiences. Brothers enjoyed a literary prelude and book signing with Bro. Blair Underwood, an engaging fireside conversation with two-
time Super Bowl Champion Bro. James Washington, and an evening of laughter with renowned comedians Bro. Ron G., Bro. Joey Wells, and Sor. Kanisha Buss.
Additional highlights included a personal branding session presented in partnership with Macy's and a regional
blood drive in collaboration with the American Red Cross,
demonstrating our unwavering commitment to service beyond the conference walls.
In addition, attendees strengthened existing relationships and forged new ones through networking opportunities,

social events, and fellowship activities. Brothers explored the
Vendor Marketplace, connected with regional and international leaders, and celebrated the exceptional achievements of
chapters and individual brothers during the Honorable Brother Oscar Morgan Gala. The evening also marked a historic moment with the establishment of two new recognition
societies: the Esteemed Brother Emile Pitre Honors Society,
the highest honor bestowed upon a Collegiate Brother within
the Region, and the Western Region Heritage Society, which recognizes Brothers whose decades of dedication, service,
and leadership have contributed significantly to the growth and advancement of the Western Region for 50 years or more. As we reflect on another successful Western Regional Conference, we celebrate the leadership, dedication,
and service demonstrated by the brothers of the Western Region. The knowledge gained, relationships built, and
accomplishments recognized throughout the conference will
continue to inspire our collective efforts as we strengthen our Brotherhood, expand our impact, and remain steadfast in
"Achieving the Vision of Our Founders." Under the leadership of our newly elected 36th Regional Director, Esteemed Bro. Warren Brown, the Western Region is well-positioned to
continue building on its tradition of excellence while creating an even greater legacy for future generations.
