LYNDA LOWE

This body of work attends closely to the beauty of the natural world, but what we recognize in the physical world around us is only one expression. Nothing is simply as it appears. Beyond the tangible there is an unseen, yet experienced, ineffable presence that permeates even the most ordinary moments. Revealed through attention and observation, there is no thought or thing entirely passive or inert, but charged with content and alive with presence.

Lowe’s practice involves layering highly rendered realism with scientific text, poetry, geometry, and atmospheric color, she builds a perceptual field where meaning takes shape. She brings the rational and the mysterious into coexistence, links the seen and the unseen, altogether creating a language through which resonance and reverence continually emerge.

UNBOUND SERIES

Presented as unbound pages, these fifteen paintings on paper make direct reference to books, a theme the artist frequently returns to, and were developed during her residency at Monte Azul in Costa Rica. Similar to a Codex or Book of Hours, each is a record of text, geometric figures, color ground, and carefully rendered imagery meant to evoke something seen or experienced. Intuitively developed surfaces are layered with many additions and subtractions to suggest time, wear, memory, and mysterious content.

The "Unbound" paintings are approximately 11 x 10 inches, $2,400.00 each.

PATRA VESSELS

These bowls are an extension of a project titled, “The Patra Passage,” in which the artist hand-built 108 ceramic vessels paired with small paintings and presented in handmade wooden boxes. Inspired by the alms bowls monks carry, these bowls are symbols of interdependence and an openness to the cycle of giving and receiving. The Sanskrit origin of patra translates as “the vessel that never goes empty,” grounding the work in the offerings of the present moment. In the first iteration of this project, the artist gifted all 108 vessels with instructions to continue the cycle of giving from person to person for one year. Ultimately the vessels circulated through over 500 people in over 40 states and 5 countries before returning for exhibition at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma.

Each ceramic Patra Vessel comes with a paired painting. Vessels are each approximately 4 x 5 x 5 inches, with a 5 x 5 inch painting. Patra Vessel with painting, $1,200.00
