PAS Gala Journal 2026

Page 1

We gather at our 21st annual Gala to celebrate the Park Avenue Synagogue community, Rabbi Neil Zuckerman, and kesher – the power of connection. For more than 144 years, Park Avenue Synagogue has been a place for leadership in Jewish learning and worship. It is the leadership and vision of our great rabbis and cantors, combined with our members, that makes Park Avenue more than a synagogue. PAS is a strong, vibrant, and thriving community bound by the relationships of our members.

A community is, by definition, a group of people who are connected by something they share –perhaps a commonality of location, values, experiences, or purpose. But just because people are a community does not mean the bonds are strong or the connections deep. It is a sense of belonging that makes people feel connected in their hearts. It is mutual care and respect for each other and showing up in both happy and sad times. It is following the shared traditions, whether they are thousands of years old or newly created. It is these sacred threads that bind us together as a community, across generations and across time itself. And in recent years, through technology, we have expanded our community by connecting and reconnecting with family and friends around the world.

The human body contains a vast and interconnected network of veins and arteries that carry life. In our synagogue, this living network is our community, and at the center of it all is the heart, our clergy, one of whom is our honoree this evening. Rabbi Zuckerman – you are the beating heart whose teaching enlightens us, whose words comfort us, and whose leadership brings us together in purpose and spirit. And through your wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to our community and the Jewish people, you help nurture and strengthen the bonds of our community. You are here for us when we need a calming voice, a steady hand, a shoulder to cry on, or someone to share a laugh with.

Rabbi Zuckerman, your connections run deep and wide, spanning the generations; the bonds are strong, due to your care and compassion. Your connections reach far, from our community to your past community members who have joined ours, all the way to Israel; and your love of fourlegged, furry creatures makes connections that span the species.

On this Sweet Sixteen at PAS, Rabbi Zuckerman, we are blessed to have you, Allison, and your entire family as part of our PAS family. And while past results are not a predictor of future results, we are confident that you will do even more amazing things in the years to come. Thank you for your leadership, wisdom, friendship, and powers of connection. We are incredibly grateful!

With much admiration,
