This was a busy issue for us, with the NVp product Expo in Milwaukee just around the corner, as well as an indepth look at the all-important four-wheel At V & Ut V market. Starting with the semiannual NVp, the products that dealers will see there will be—for the most part—new for 2027.

It was only a few years ago that LeMans moved the Fall event to Milwaukee from Madison and it didn’t take long for the baird Center in downtown Milwaukee to prove itself to be a very capable location and facility for parts Unlimited’s vendors, dealers and sales reps to talk and learn about what will be hot next year.

THOR/Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider Carson Wood delivered a standout weekend at RedBud MX during the season’s first SMX Next Motocross Scouting Moto Combine. After topping qualifying, Wood grabbed the Moto 1 holeshot and led every lap under pressure. Rain pushed Moto 2 to Saturday, where he moved from third to the lead on the opening lap and held on for the win, completing the sweep and earning his first overall victory in the class.

“SMX Next at RedBud went really well,” said Wood. “It was a perfect day for me. P1 in qualifying and P1 in both motos, and I felt really good. It was great to get my first combine win. I came close a few times, but just came up short, so it felt really nice to finally get it done.” ■

THOr/Monster Energy Yamaha Star racing’s Cole Davies found his stride at a key point in the pro Motocross season. Starting with an overall victory at redbud and continuing with a dominant sweep at Washougal, the tHOr-backed New Zealander turned a sizable championship deficit into a tight fight for the 250MX title.

Davies arrived at redbud with momentum and quickly kept it rolling. He qualified fastest for the third consecutive round, then went 1-2 in the motos to secure his second straight overall victory.

In Moto 1, Davies started near the front and settled into second behind teammate Caden Dudney. the two battled for the

lead before Davies mounted a late charge, made the pass and pulled away for his third consecutive moto win and fourth of the season.

Davies grabbed the holeshot in Moto 2 and led for most of the race. title rival Jo Shimoda passed him with five laps remaining, but Davies brought home second place to earn the overall win. the result trimmed his championship deficit to four points.

“It was a really good day,” Davies said. “I qualified first and went 1-2 in moto scores for first overall. We’ll just keep building each round and keep gaining points back. We’re well in this thing, so we’ll just keep on fighting for this championship, and hopefully by the end of the season we’ll be in a good spot.”

the championship picture shifted over the next few rounds, and Davies arrived at Washougal facing a 25-point deficit. He needed a strong response to stay in the title hunt.

He delivered one. racing at Washougal MX park for the first time, Davies set the pace from the start. He topped 250MX qualifying, grabbed the Moto 1 holeshot and led every lap.

While a crash behind him collected several riders, Davies stayed clear of the trouble. He recorded the fastest lap on Lap 3, built a comfortable lead and took his fifth moto victory of the season by 17 seconds.

Moto 2 required Davies to work through the field. He started seventh but quickly moved forward, took the lead on Lap 2 and again set the fastest lap of the race. From there, he went unchallenged and completed the 1-1 sweep.

the result gave Davies his sixth moto win and third overall victory of the season. More importantly, it cut the championship gap from 25 points to seven with three rounds remaining.

“It was a good day today – qualified first and won both motos,” Davies said. “I really feel like I kind of needed this to get back into the championship hunt. I’m not going to back down. We’re ready to fight till the end, and hopefully we’re going to be in a good spot coming down to the last race and last round. It was honestly pretty slick and sketchy out there, but I had fun. It was a good day, and we’re ready to keep this going.”

Davies left Washougal firmly back in the championship fight. His redbud win showed he could deliver under pressure. His Washougal sweep showed he could answer when the points gap widened.

With three rounds left as of press time, seven points separate Davies from the red plate. the title remains within reach, and his performances at redbud and Washougal made it clear he plans to fight for it until the end. ■

Seven-Time Champion

HETRICK ADDS ANOTHER TITLE TO LEGENDARY ATVMX CAREER

Joel Hetrick added another milestone to one of the most decorated careers in A securing his seventh A ship aboard the Moose Offroad-backed racing Yamaha YFZ450r.

Hetrick clinched the title at nant season, winning seven of the first eight overall events to build an insurmountable points lead. He capped off the championship run by battling to another moto victory, once again demonstrating the speed and consistency that have defined his career.

the championship further cemented Hetrick’s place among the sport’s all-time greats. Since earning his first premier-class title in 2017, the remained a fixture at the front of the field, adding multiple championships while continuing to raise the bar for A motocross competition.

History made. Legacy extended.

RACING WITH PURPOSE BTR BUILDS CONFIDENCE,

It began as a four-rider exhibition, a marketing experiment that gave women riders an opportunity to experience factory-supported racing on a professional track. Since first laying tread in 2020, the royal Enfield build.train.race program has evolved into a fixture in both the MotoAmerica and American Flat track series. Its success may have seemed unlikely, especially for a brand with a relatively small U.S. presence and no lineup of dedicated competition motorcycles.

but perhaps that irony helped fuel its rise. by stripping away the prestige and advanced technology of racing’s elite levels, the program showed that it was still possible to join the throttle-twisting fun. It opened a path into an otherwise hard-to-reach world of competition, while the spec-racing format, with all riders aboard classic, air-cooled royal Enfield 650cc motorcycles showcased a pure riders’ race.

the result was a fresh perspective that fans were ready to embrace. Now in its seventh year, the royal Enfield btr program, with support from parts Unlimited as a sponsor, has found its place among the elite ranks of road racing and flat track, where it is not only surviving but thriving.

“We always have the biggest fan lines at MotoAmerica and American Flat track,” says Jenny Lewis, Custom & Motorsports program Manager, USA. “It’s always little girls that are watching. that’s what we’re there to empower. Little girls, adults, women at any age.”

Although btr is a competitive series, its riders share a strong sense of solidarity and a larger goal: inspiring more women to ride and more riders to race. that bigger picture matters, Lewis explains, but so does the racing. At its core, btr remains a hard-fought national series with a title on the line.

COMMUNITY AND CONTENDERS

“It’s a unique program because it has the seriousness and legitimacy of racing. When we’re at the track it’s serious. but it is also a positive, encouraging environment designed to foster growth and camaraderie, which, if you’re from the racing world, you know is a rare thing,” says Lewis. “ that’s why parts Unlimited is so special to us. they sponsor so many pro riders and pro teams, but they love our program and see it as a professional, but unique, racing program and they see it as this enlightened path into the racing world. Like us, they love the heartfelt stories, but also appreciate the professional approach to serious, competitive racing.”

Solidarity in the pits alongside cutthroat competition on the track is a delicate balance to maintain, and according to Lewis, it’s essential for everyone on the team to understand that.

“In the beginning we’re pretty cutthroat about it in the application process. Like, listen. I need you guys and want you guys to be as competitive as you possibly can, but you have to be teammates when you come under the tent. I need you to understand that we’re here for a bigger cause,” she explains. “We’re kind of asking them to be completely opposite of what you’re supposed to be as a racer, but that discipline and temperance is at the core of build.train.race. to bring the fire, but leave it all on the track is what teaches someone to be a better racer.”

THE ROAD TO RACING

btr has found success with its two-year format. riders accepted into the program through an annual application

process are offered a two-year contract. Each racer receives guidance from professional mechanics during the build phase and training from professional racers: Johnny Lewis on the flat track side and world champion Freddie Spencer on the road racing side. A third layer of guidance comes from the women themselves, with experienced riders often taking rookies under their wing.

“ the program really self-sustains at this point because of the two-year format. the second-year girls are always there

to set the tone and foster an example for the first-years,” Lewis says. “ they all really click and look after each other. We have some young riders, some fresh 18-yearolds and this is a huge change for a lot of them. You’re an adult, you signed a contract and you’re here to do a job. they need to learn the program and learn the boundaries. the way the return riders are always looking in on the other riders, you can see it just trickles through.”

the progress in racing abilities from the first year to the second is another goal behind the two-year format. brazilian rider tati paze is a shining example. She went from the back of the pack last season to celebrating her first career win in 2026 at the ridge. Not only that, paze is the program’s first-ever brazilian rider to win a race. royal Enfield maintains strong ties to brazil, where build.train.race expanded its road race applications in 2025.

“ tati worked really, really hard this winter and has been on the podium multiple times, and finally won,” Lewis says. “On top of that, she really wanted to better her English, so she also worked hard to speak English during her off-season as well, which was pretty awesome.”

the life-changing impact of the btr program was on full display as paze delivered a podium speech in English: “btr race win for me is incredible. It’s a dream! I dream about not only podium, not only race, but it’s a dream. My life. thank you for my sponsors, my family, my friends, thank you.”

On the flat track side, the 2026 btr series has already wrapped up with Emma Gottsch claiming the crown,

although it was Madicela rodriguez, also a btr racer from brazil, who earned the win at the final round at the Williams Grove Half-Mile. After being edged out for the championship last year, Gottsch was not to be denied in 2026. She claimed three victories and two runner-up finishes to handily claim the No. 1 plate in her final btr race.

“I gave it everything I had on the track, knowing I only had two years total on my royal Enfield,” Gottsch says. “I’m so bummed that my two-year contract with build.train.race and royal Enfield has come to an end. I can’t express how incredible this opportunity has been or how grateful I am to have been part of this team. thank you for an unforgettable two years.”

For parent company royal Enfield, the btr program is still young within the scope of its 125-year history, a milestone the company is reaching this year. It is also a program in which the company continues to see a promising future.

“As we hit 125 years, we are feeling younger than ever,” says Adrian Sellers, Head – Custom & Motorsport at royal Enfield. “It’s been another great season where the championship has gone down to the wire. Each year this program delivers close racing, some standout performers, but most importantly, progress and development for every rider throughout the field, which is the whole ethos of the program. We’re proud of every rider who competed in this year’s campaign and love witnessing the progression throughout the year. We can’t wait to see what next year brings.” ■

CATCHING FIRE MOOSE OFFROAD ATHLETES STACK WINS AND TITLES

Sometimes timing is everything. As American off-road racing reached its 2026 midseason a number of Moose Offroad athletes have reached meteoric heights, setting career-best finishes, clinching championships, and even making history with unprecedented wins.

Moose Offroad athlete Jhak Walker began his season on a strong note, but has caught fire deep into the racing season. Walker was holding his own in the XC2 pro ranks of GNCC, and celebrated a career-first podium in the pro2 ranks of the American National Enduro Championship (ANEC). two rounds later at the Little raccoon National Enduro, the LIQUI MOLY beta Factory rider got on the overall podium in third, also claiming his first pro2 win. the very next round, at the barbed Wire National Enduro, Walker made history as the first-ever pro2 rider to overall a National Enduro!

the victory has given Walker a massive boost in the pro 2 points chase where he is neck and neck for the championship, but it is another Moose Offroad athlete who remains atop the overall points: Liam Draper of the Ampro Yamaha team. Draper claimed the overall win at the Little raccoon, and carded third at the barbed Wire to remain comfortably in control of the pro 1 ranks. Following the summer break, the series has three rounds left to run, and plenty of points still up for grabs.

As for championships that have already been clinched, Rachel Gutish claimed a second-consecutive FIM Women’s Enduro World Championship at the EnduroGp of portugal. the Moose-backed racer made history last year as the first-ever American to claim an EnduroGp World Championship, and has now doubled-down on her impressive feat.

OFF-ROAD RACING UPDATE

At the U.S. Sprint Enduro season final on June 14, K tM USA Orange brigade rider Cooper Jones impressed with a strong performance, and a fierce battle for the overall. Jones swept the enduro tests on Saturday, and finished second overall on the weekend, clinching the pro2 title, and securing second in the overall championship. “I ended up getting it done early,” said Jones. “I stayed consistent all year, and I had quite a few battles with Grant [Davis] so overall it was a super good season.”

In the GNCC Series, Moose Offroad teams and riders are also fighting forward. pHX racing Honda’s Jordan Ashburn took over the championship lead after a pair of impressive wins at rounds 5 and 6, but in the following two rounds his luck took a turn, setting him up for a challenge. Ashburn rebounded at round 9, getting himself back onto the podium at the Snowshoe GNCC where he also regained the points lead. “It was brutal,” said Ashburn. “Conditions were super slick and super technical. I think power point Hill was harder than it’s ever been this year. We had some good racing and I’m pumped to come out of here with a podium today.”

A landmark podium at the Snowshoe GNCC went to his pHX racing Honda teammate Gus Riordan, who marked a

career-best finish in second overall, also claiming another XC2 win. “I usually leave this race with my lip on the ground and my head between my legs,” said riordan. “ this place normally kicks my butt, so I told the boys I’m going to make this hill mine. And yeah, it felt good. It was one hell of a race.”

Out west in the WOrCS championship, Mason Semmens is also on a podium streak where he leads the points. Semmens entertained at Glen Helen with a thrilling battle for the overall with tyler Lynn. Semmens had to settle for second on the day, but the FMF/rpM/K tM rider remains in control of the championship.

In the WOrCS pro 250 ranks, FMF/rpM/K tM teammates Noah Gordon and Cole Zeller did battle at Glen Helen, both finishing on the podium. but it is Zeller who remains in control of the pro 250 title chase.

the peak heat of summer marks the only real break in the season for Moose Offroad athletes, otherwise engaged in year-round battle. When temperatures begin to cool off, battles will resume with racers hungrier than ever for wins and number-one plates. ■

BETTER TEAMS, BETTER BUSINESS

WHY KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF MATTER MORE THAN EVER

For today’s powersports customers, the buying process often starts long before they visit a dealership. research, product comparisons and recommendations increasingly happen online, raising the bar for what customers expect once they arrive in the showroom.

“Customers are coming into motorcycle dealerships expecting more information, and they want it presented better, more focused on their needs. If they’re not getting that, what are they doing? they’re either buying this stuff online or they’re saying, screw this, if you can’t tell me about the best suspension and tires and seats for my bike, if you can’t solve my problem, I’ll go buy somewhere else,” says Kurt Kaufmann, with the LeMans Growth Academy.

Why? because the dealership is still where most sales are made. the difference is that today’s customers often arrive after researching products online, comparing prices and narrowing their options. Estimates suggest about 80% of shoppers research online before ever walking through the door.

Customers do that research for several reasons. Economic pressure has shoppers comparing prices before they visit a store. they’re also looking to save time by using their phones or computers to narrow their choices. And recommendations from friends, influencers and others they follow

on social media increasingly shape their buying decisions. by the time customers walk into your dealership, they’re often better informed or at least much closer to making a purchase. that changes the job for both dealership staff and the manufacturers supplying product information.

First, customers need to be able to find your dealership online, know when you’re open and see the products you carry before they ever arrive. then, once they’re in the store, your staff needs to know those products well enough to answer questions, solve problems and give customers a reason to buy from you instead of somewhere else.

PEOPLE POWER

Outside of the retail powersports world, some restaurants and big-box stores think they can solve this information problem with more computers.

“Do powersports customers want to walk in and order their exhaust off a kiosk? probably not,” says Kaufmann. “but in the absence of better trained staff, a decision is going to happen in this space, no different than what’s happening in these other retail spaces.”

LEMANS GROWTH ACADEMY

the advantage dealerships still have is the human element. Staff who can answer questions, solve problems and build relationships give customers a reason to buy in person. but he also warns that dealers who fail to invest in the in-store experience risk losing the value that has traditionally set brick-and-mortar retailers apart.

“As retail continues to evolve, the customer experience inside the dealership becomes even more important,” says paul Devine, Vice president, Sales and Marketing for LeMans Corporation. “Consumers can research products anywhere, but they still value expert advice and personal service when making buying decisions.”

LeMans created the Growth Academy to help dealerships build on one of their greatest strengths: knowledgeable people. Caleb Schillo, a salesperson at rJ Sport & Cycle in Duluth, Minnesota, has been putting the training to use.

“ the big immediate difference is confidence at the counter. Instead of guessing or second-guessing, you can speak clearly on a product and help guide someone to the right choice,” Schillo says. “On the tangible side, it leads to better conversations and more complete sales. Customers aren’t just buying one item; they’re getting everything they actually need the first time.”

Kaufmann believes that confidence comes from a combination of personal commitment and industry support. Dealership staff have to invest in improving their knowledge, he says, and the industry has a responsibility to provide the training and resources to help them succeed.

According to Schillo, the payoff extends beyond the sale. Using the Growth Academy training tools has also helped him build trust with customers. “Customers can tell when you know what you’re talking about,” he notes, “and that usually brings them back.”

BUILDING BETTER TEAMS

Kaufmann believes the Growth Academy is about more than product knowledge. It’s also about rebuilding one of the industry’s greatest strengths: knowledgeable people.

“A big part of this effort is reviving a community within the powersports marketplace. I would argue there’s been a degradation of that over the years as cheap knockoff products have come in, say through Amazon or promoted by ‘experts’ on Youtube,” says Kaufmann.

the goal, he says, is to strengthen the human capital inside dealerships by giving employees the tools to become informed, credible team members who are more likely to stay and succeed.

For Jesse barnes of pro Motorsports in West burlington, Iowa, one of the biggest benefits is that the training goes beyond individual products.

“ the training from the different brands in the LeMans Growth Academy has specifics on identifying different customer types and needs. CHASING THE THREE-PEAT

Winning back-to-back WMX titles has not slowed Lachlan turner. If anything, the 19-year-old Moose Offroad athlete seems to work harder with each step forward. And it’s a good thing, because the competition, as well as the media visibility of the Women’s Motocross Championship, is on a meteoric rise.

Midway through the 2026 season, Lachlan, known as Lala, leads the way, having taken four of six moto wins so far, only giving up one overall win at round three at High point. Win or lose, Lala never fails to keep things exciting in a season that has already been full of fights to the finish.

Following the success of her first season as a pro in 2024 where she went nearly undefeated, turner fueled her momentum by moving to Club MX to train full time – a luxury she had never had before. the Moose Offroad-backed rider took another significant step forward this season when she joined “group one” at Club MX, advancing from training with the top amateurs to training with the pros. It’s a move Lala felt needed to happen.

“My mom was like, ‘Well just go tell them to move you to group one.’ I’m like, ‘No. I’m going to show ‘em,’” Lala explains.

“For three weeks solid I literally beat everyone in group two and they moved me to group one. they were like, ‘We were just waiting for that confidence and now you’re ready for group one.’ Now I’m riding with all the pro guys.”

She is reveling in the challenge of riding with racers faster than her. “Once I moved to group one, I started chasing faster people and it’s crazy how different a rider I am now.”

that’s bad news for her competition. Four-time Australian women’s champion Charli Cannon is her closest competition, and the two have already banged bars at multiple rounds, always putting on a show for fans. At round one at Hangtown, Lala narrowly defeated the Aussie in an all-out battle to the checkers in moto two to claim a 1-1 victory.

the following round at thunder Valley brought some exciting news: MXGp women’s champion Lotte van Drunen was coming to the U.S. If anyone could challenge Lachlan turner, surely it would be the two-time world champion. “I’d heard so many things, and thought, ‘Okay, I finally get to race her,’” Lala says. “because every time I would race Mini O’s she would be hurt, or I would be hurt when she came there.”

the two champions finally had a chance to square off, but the grand rivalry didn’t exactly take place, largely due to the fact that van Drunen was on a stock bike at thunder Valley, a place where elevation also takes a power-robbing toll. At the following round at High point, van Drunen was saddled with more technical issues while turner was hampered by an illness. “I haven’t got to really battle with her yet,” Lala says. “I really want to battle with her and see how it is. We’ll see how that goes.”

High point brought out an unexpected spoiler with Mayla Herrick making her pro debut, the young rookie turning 17 on that day. She claimed a stunning win in the first moto, but crashed spectacularly in the second moto, ending her day, but serving notice she is ready to be a serious contender. (Fortunately, she suffered only minor injuries.)

As for the incoming talent, from the world championship, the rookie ranks, and her archrival from Down Under, Lala says bring it on. “ the series is definitely getting bigger over here. We got more people involved and everyone’s coming over to try to race us. I really hope everyone overseas comes here and makes this their main championship. that’d be sick. Maybe we get a bigger pro purse and can make a living off it,” she says with a laugh.

Lala’s ambitions don’t even stop at WMX. She plans to wrap up her third championship, but is looking to take another step in her career. “I don’t want to race just WMX. I want to race pro Motocross and Supercross,” she explains. “It’s my dream.”

the fact that it has never been done by a woman doesn’t seem to faze her at all. “I grew up with a lot of people thinking I couldn’t do it, so I’m mentally strong with anything that comes my way,” she says. “I definitely want to prove to everyone that girls are better than what they think we are [capable of].”

that determination has not gone unnoticed by the team supporting her.

“Lala is a super hard worker and has a never-give-up attitude,” says Carl van Niekerk, Moose Offroad rider Support. “We’ve seen her accomplish so much already and she’s still only 19. Everyone at Moose Offroad is thrilled to be with her on this journey and I think we’ll continue to see great things.” ■

With everything in place to make sure the Kodiak could reliably get around again, it was time to focus on making it functional. Items like a Moose Flexgrip gun rack, front storage trunk, fender bag and a rear basket with a cargo net provide the right mix of storage options. Up front, there’s now a set of Stealth grips and anti-vibration mirrors.

With everything in place, the final step was to use Moose plastic Finish Cleaner, which revived the plastic elements to give them the look of an At V fresh off the showroom floor.

the revamped Kodiak looks brand new, and its functionality is better than ever. All of that was achieved with a Moose Offroad parts list that was only 26 items long, and that included absolutely everything, right down to the funnel used to install the oil and the microfiber towels that put the final touches on the plastic bodywork.

“ the difference has been incredible,” says Kelly. “When people see the before-and-after, they often don’t believe it’s the same machine. Visually, it looks brand new. Functionally, it starts easily, idles smoothly and runs like a new At V. Just as importantly, the rebuild has greatly improved its reliability, giving us confidence that it’s ready to work and be enjoyed for years to come.”

Now, the Kodiak is on its way back to Kelly’s property, where it will continue to work hard.

When Jeff Stanton retired from racing, launching an ADV tour company was not part of the plan. but the six-time AMA Motocross and Supercross champion found a new way to share the riding terrain of his home state.

An Electrifying Build Tires

to Transform a Commuter Bike

When we caught up with builder robert Sabel a year ago, he had just taken a bMW resto-mod to the bike Shed Moto Show in London. At the moment, things look a little different at the roughchild shop, but one thing has remained the same: Sabel still trusts Avon tyres to give his builds the right look and performance.

the roughchild brand is best known for transforming vintage bMWs, so it might be a bit of a surprise to know Sabel’s most recent build was an electric Maeving rM1S. Sabel is the first to admit it was a bit of a surprise to him, too. When film producer Michael barrett called and pitched the project to him, Sabel was reluctant.

“I rejected it three or four times, and then he phoned me and told me his story,” Sabel says. “He lost his motorcycle collection in the palisades fires, lost his house, and he said he and his wife [actress Anna Faris] enjoy riding these electric bikes in Washington, and it brought him joy, but he realized it could be better.”

Sabel has had close calls with California wildfires, as well, and barrett’s story finally won him over. barrett delivered the Maeving to the roughchild shop, and the first thing Sabel did was tear it down so he could build it back up to look like a more aggressive motorcycle.

the rM1S arrived with skinny 19-inch wheels on the front and rear, and the tires were a type that just couldn’t deliver on performance. So, Sabel mounted 18-inch wheels and a set of Avon roadrider MKII tires to give the motorcycle not just a bigger, fiercer look, but also to deliver a more performance-minded ride.

A+ power Sports in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, began with one man’s passion for powersports and grew into a family-run dealership.

In 2001, Kevin Nichols was building custom pickup trucks and spending much of his free time around powersports. A lifelong enthusiast, he had raced motocross, drag raced snowmobiles and ridden just about anything he could get his hands on.

“I started out at a young age having an attraction for powersports - mini bikes, motorcycles, snowmobiles and quads,” Kevin says. “I had a minibike pretty much at the time I started walking, and later I also got into motocross racing and drag racing snowmobiles. So, I have always had an infatuation for powersports. I don’t know why - it’s like it was born into me.”

then a routine visit to his local polaris dealership changed his career path.

“I’d buy snowmobiles and parts from this particular dealership for many years, until one day in 2001 I went in there and was presented with an offer to buy their business,” he explains. “I became A+ power Sports in 2002. I would have done it a decade earlier if I had had the opportunity, but I was into building custom pick-up trucks and had been doing that for a long time. When that opportunity came along to actually own a dealership, I jumped on it.”

What began as Kevin’s chance to turn a lifelong passion into a business has grown into a true family operation. His wife, barb, and three of their four children now workalongside him, each bringing their own experience to A+ power Sports, a longtime parts Unlimited dealer.

“We’re a family business. And when I say family, I’m here, my wife barb is here, three of my children work here, and all of us participate in these sports – they love it as much as I do,” Kevin says. “We’re really known for not only selling the product, but riding the product. people will come in to ask us about product just because we do so much riding. they can get an opinion from a 60-year-old man, they can get an opinion from a 20-something-year-old young man, or they can get an opinion from a 20-something-year-old young lady. they can really get a feel of the product just by coming to talk with us because we’ve probably ridden it.”

A BLESSING

Like many children raised around a family dealership, Kole Nichols, tristyn boss and Logan Nichols started with basic jobs before finding their roles in the business.

“We grew up as shop kids, and did start out by cutting up boxes and sweeping the floors. Honestly, I feel like as early as we could walk our parents would involve us in everything,” explains tristyn. “In high school, all three of us – my

brothers and I – did a school-towork program where you could leave school early to get credit for work. that ultimately allowed us to find our own interests within the dealership.”

After high school, each sibling found a niche. tristyn took over marketing, events and apparel, Kole moved from service into sales and Logan advanced from the shop to lead the service department.

“We started out in the dealership doing whatever our parents told us to do, and now we each have our own department that we operate.”

For Kevin, the real payoff is watching his children grow from shop kids into leaders with a clear hand in the dealership’s future.

“You know, it is a blessing,” Kevin says. “And, sometimes, I have to blink twice just to believe my kids are really taking the business over and doing this well at it. they do phenomenally.”

THE FACILITY

A+ power Sports carries Can-Am, polaris, Diamond C trailers, Legend premium trailers and trails West trailers. the dealership added Can-Am in July 2025. “Having both CanAm and polaris really works well for us here,” Kevin says.

the business operates from multiple buildings on the property, totaling about 22,000 square feet. the dealership is also reworking its service areas to give technicians more focused workspaces.

“right now, we’re working on transforming one building to be strictly for setting up new machines and adding accessories,” Kevin says. “It’s going to be a four-bay shop where technicians just set up the machines straight out of the crate and accessorize. then I have a five-bay shop that will be strictly mechanics just servicing the product.”

When it comes to the dealership itself, the Nichols’ family identity comes through as soon as customers walk through the door.

“When my parents built the dealership, they wanted it to feel like you’re at an up north cabin,” tristyn says. “When you walk in, you’ll immediately notice

all of the knotty pine, a bunch of white-tail deer mounts on the wall, a lot of family photos on the walls documenting our powersports adventures, and you’ll get greeted by our three Labrador shop dogs.”

the main building has two large wings, with the Can-Am showroom on the right, the polaris showroom on the left and parts and service along the back wall of the central showroom. Accessories and apparel wrap around the space.

“My dad is also very into his vintage sleds, so we have a loft that displays vintage snowmobiles all of the way back to 1964,” tristyn adds.

THE BUSINESS

A+ power Sports typically displays about 30 polaris and Can-Am vehicles inside, along with as many as 50 cabbed units outside.

“We are in a pretty big agricultural area here, so we have a lot of rangers and Defenders,” Kole explains. “ then, in northern Wisconsin, people use rZrs and Generals and X3s and Commanders to trail ride. So, we offer a nice mix of units.

“Elkhorn is a small traditional hometown that’s mostly agricultural. but it’s a good location, because we’re only an hour from Milwaukee, Madison and rockford, and only an hour and a half from Chicago.”

the service team handles 80 to 90 customer vehicles each month. Most customers are local, but A+ also draws riders from nearby metro areas.

“Most of our customers are local, but we do get a fair share of folks coming from those nearby metropolitan areas,” Kole says. to this tristyn adds, “We have people coming from over an hour away, so we’ve for sure created a destination dealership.”

Kole says Ut Vs account for about 54% of their sales, trailers make up 17%, At Vs account for 16% and sleds cover the remaining 13%.

“ the hot models right now are units that have heating and air-conditioning, so we sell a lot of the ranger Northstar 1000,” he says. “In fact, we’ll typically have about 40 of those in stock at any given time. Our second best-seller is the Defender Limited.”

the dealership sells one vehicle for every 2.23 vehicles serviced. “Which makes me think that I need to get more technicians to service vehicles,” Kole says with a laugh.

A+ power Sports employs 18 people, including eight service technicians, a parts specialist, two finance employees, a sales manager, five people in executive roles and a part-time student learning the finer points of detailing.

the dealership also works closely with the local high school through a schoolto-work program. It typically takes on two students each year and trains them in oil changes, detailing and customerfacing work.

“ they usually send us two kids per year,” Kole explains, “who we then teach how to do oil changes, detailing and customer-facing positions.”

REPUTATION AND REACH

A+ power Sports has earned a 4.7 rating on Google. tristyn credits that score in part to the dealership’s family approach.

“For one, we really do treat our customers like family,” tristyn says. “When they walk through the door, they are getting a premium top-notch experience. they’re not just a number. I definitely think that that experience allows us to get those really good reviews.”

the dealership uses traditional advertising, social media and word-of-mouth to reach customers, with much of its growth coming through referrals and a strong social

media following that has expanded since about 2017.

“rather than just post things like ‘the hot deal of the day,’ we try to show people the lifestyle of riding and create a community online,” tristyn says. “ that has resulted in a very loyal following.”

Youtube is another key part of that effort. the dealership’s channel began about a decade ago after a local videographer produced an “about us” story. that project led to walk-around videos of machines in stock, and the channel has since grown to roughly 6,000 subscribers.

“We just started a new trail series vlog on the channel where we vlog all of our family trips to give viewers an insight into the adventure inherent to powersports,” tristyn says. “And that’s proven popular, as well.”

that online reach extends well beyond the dealership’s main service area. the store regularly gets callers from out of state saying they watch their videos. those viewers will even make the drive to the store just to buy something.

Kole saw that reach firsthand during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During COVID, when nobody could find machines, we had an 850 Scrambler that I had done a walk-around video for. Well, two days later a guy calls me from New York, says he saw it on our Youtube video and wanted to know whether we still had it in stock,” he says. “Once I confirmed we did, he says ‘OK, I’ll see you in the morning.’ Sure enough, he showed up at 9 a.m. the next morning and loaded it up.”

A+ power Sports also hosts several community events each year.

“We host an open house in the spring, which is our Off-road Fest event, and then in the fall we host our Sledtoberfest snowmobile event. We also are really involved in our local community here in Elkhorn because we are all very tight-knit,” tristyn says. “We help out at our local county fair, sponsor golf outings for charity, and are very involved in the Wide Open Wisconsin powersports Show.”

PARTS AS A PARTNER

parts Unlimited has supplied A+ power Sports for more than 20 years. Kole says fast delivery from the Janesville warehouse helps the dealership return customers’ vehicles to service sooner.

“We’ve been with parts Unlimited for more than 20 years,” Kole says. “I find them so helpful because the OEMs typi-

cally take two to three days to ship me parts. With parts Unlimited, most of everything I order will come out of the Janesville warehouse and I’ll have it the next day. Getting people going is a big thing on the service side, so I’m always appreciative that I can hit the order button and see the product the next day.”

parts Unlimited sales representative Mike Kingstad supports the dealership.

“Mike is very helpful - probably one of the most helpful reps that I have,” Kole says. “I can text him and he’ll respond really quickly. He’s from a dealership originally, so he understands the dynamic of it and how things move and operate.

“When he comes in to show me displays or do the next parts orders, he actually strategically breaks it down with us, so we have the right parts in stock and I’m not overloaded drowning in things that aren’t selling. plus, he’s just a really good guy to hang around with.”

From Kingstad’s perspective, the family dynamic does more than shape the dealership’s story. It influences how the team works, serves customers and approaches the business.

“Working with the A+ family is amazing. they are openminded to trying new things and are always looking to blaze their own trail,” Kingstad says. “ they go above and beyond for all their customers, and no problem is too small.
