Happy New Year! B Y D O N E M D E

E

very time I attend the Fall Parts Unlimited NVP Product Expo, I feel I should greet people there by saying “Happy New Year!” From the business point of view, that’s what it is. Virtually all of the discussions I had a few weeks ago in Milwaukee were about 2027. The vendors I talked to all seemed enthused about business this year and were showing new products they are adding to their line for the coming year. Be sure to check out our full Milwaukee NVP Report which begins on page 32.

One new feature at the NVP this time was a reception which included the presentation of awards to two LeMans Corporation vendors who have stood out this year from the many hundreds of others. The staff at LeMans wanted to offer recognition for suppliers whose products are revolutionary and help open up new market categories. The first shout out then went to RAVEK for being the recipient of the “Trendsetter Award.” The other award was “Supplier of the Year,” which went to BS Battery. There are many things that go into becoming the recipient of that prestigious award. Fill rates, protective packaging and reliable shipping methods are surely three of the factors that are considered.

Some other important stories for you include racing updates on the Build.Train.Race. series, 2026 motocross champs Cole Davies (250cc Pro MX), Lachlan “LaLa” Turner (Women’s MX), MotoAmerica roadracing, and “Racing At The Ranch,” a report on the 45th annual Loretta Lynn’s AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. We have another installment for you about the LeMans Growth Academy, a profile about a valued Parts Unlimited dealer in Sioux City, Iowa called Salmen Cycle Solutions, and lastly, a special section about the soon-to-arrive Snowmobile season. ■

NEWS EVENTS A Winning Finish NOELLE CLINCHES BUILD.TRAIN.RACE. CHAMPIONSHIP Brian J. Nelson photos

Build.Train.Race. rider Tiffanie Vo at Mid-Ohio.

That's your 2026 Build.Train.Race. Road Race champion Jasmine Noelle, who clinched the title at Mid-Ohio.

Cutler crossed the line second after challenging Noelle from start to finish, while Everitt completed the podium in third. Tati Paze finished fourth, giving Noelle an insurmountable 39-point advantage in the championship standings and securing the title with Sunday’s finale still to come.

The Build.Train.Race. series has emerged as a fan favorite as part of the MotoAmerica rounds. Here riders Brianna Cutler (#35), Sany Max (#11), Marie Madura (#616) and Jasmine Noelle (#711) head out to the grid.

T

he 2026 Royal Enfield Build.Train.Race. season came to a close at Mid-Ohio in early August, where Jasmine Noelle secured the series championship with a hard-fought victory in Race One before Bryanna Everitt capped the season with a win in Sunday’s finale. Parts Unlimited is a sponsor of the Build.Train.Race. series. Race One delivered a close battle as polesitter Noelle faced pressure throughout the eight-lap race from Brianna Cutler. Noelle led from the start, briefly surrendering the top spot after a late-race mistake before reclaiming the lead with a pass on Cutler with two laps remaining. She took the win just 0.7 seconds ahead of Cutler.

With the championship decided, Sunday’s finale provided one last race for the 2026 BTR field. Everitt made the most of a strong start, grabbing the holeshot before steadily building a gap at the front. Behind her, Cutler, newly crowned champion Noelle and Brazil’s Paze battled for the remaining podium positions. Paze briefly slipped to fourth before mounting a late-race charge, passing Cutler and Noelle in the closing laps to claim second. Cutler finished third, while Noelle capped her championship-winning campaign with a fourth-place finish. Everitt crossed the finish line 0.7 seconds clear of the field to earn her second victory of the season and close out the year with a win. This year’s championship marked another season for the program, which combines rider development, motorcycle preparation, education and professional road racing to create opportunities for women in motorsports. Throughout the season, competitors developed their skills both on and off the racetrack as they built, trained and raced as part of the BTR program.

“The level of competition throughout the season has been fantastic, and only continued to intensify as the year progressed. This weekend’s final two races were a perfect example of the determination, racecraft, and sportsmanship that define this program,” says Adrian Sellers, Head Custom & Motorsport at Royal Enfield. “This championship is the result of an incredible amount of work from every rider in the Build.Train.Race. paddock and we want to pass a huge congratulations to our new champion Jasmine, and every other rider on the grid in making this such a special series.” The 2026 BTR season continued Royal Enfield’s efforts to grow women’s motorcycle racing through a program that gives participants the opportunity to build their own motorcycles, develop their racing skills and compete on the track. ■

Powersports by the Numbers MIC REPORTS DETAIL INDUSTRY’S ECONOMIC REACH

T

he U.S. powersports retail marketplace represents $48.2 billion in economic value, supporting 112,221 dealership jobs and $5.6 billion in payroll across 10,632 powersports retailers nationwide, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council’s 2026 economic impact reports. The reports also estimate that more than 1.1 million new powersports vehicles were sold. Those figures measure the direct powersports retail ecosystem, including new and used vehicle sales, financing and insurance, parts and accessories, and dealer service across motorcycles, scooters, ATVs and recreational off-highway vehicles. But they represent just one measure of the industry’s broader economic presence. Earlier this year, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis data showed motorcycling/ ATVing, which includes recreational off-highway vehicles, ranked fourth among conventional outdoor recreation activities by current-dollar value added in 2024. Together, the figures help illustrate powersports’ economic reach nationally and in communities across the country. MIC provides reports for all 50 states and the District of Columbia, with state-level figures for marketplace value, dealership employment, retailer counts, payroll and retail sales. “These reports help put the scale of powersports into terms that people can immediately understand,” says Buckner Nesheim, Director of Research and Statistics for the Motorcycle Industry Council. “We can talk about the size of the industry nationally, but the state reports make that impact local. They give companies, policymakers, media, and others concrete numbers showing the businesses, jobs, payroll, and economic activity powersports supports in their own states.” The size of those marketplaces varies widely by state. Texas accounts for $4.1 billion in powersports retail marketplace value, while California and Florida each represent $3 billion. New York and Pennsylvania each account for $1.8 billion, while North Carolina represents $1.7 billion. The figures also show that significant powersports economic activity extends beyond the largest markets and across every region of the country. That makes the reports useful not only for understanding the industry, but also for telling its story. Companies and dealers can use the data in conversations with elected officials, media outreach, presentations and other efforts to demonstrate the role powersports businesses play in their communities. ■

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOK

COLE DAVIES 2026 PRO MX 250CC NATIONAL CHAMPION Photos courtesy of Yamaha Motor Corp., USA

B

irthdays mark another trip around the sun, and most people celebrate with cake, presents and maybe a party. THOR/Yamaha rider Cole Davies celebrated his 19th birthday a little differently. Davies headed to Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana, entered the final 250cc round of the 2026 Pro Motocross season and left as the 250cc National Champion. His birthday haul included a No. 1 plate, crystal trophy, championship bonus and a specially made THOR No. 1 jersey to wear on the podium. It capped a memorable season for Davies, who also won the 250cc Supercross East Championship earlier this year. The two titles put Davies among a small group of riders to win a 250cc motocross championship and regional 250cc Supercross championship in the same season, joining Ricky Carmichael, Haiden Deegan, Ryan Dungey, Jett Lawrence, James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto. Davies came out of the 250cc Supercross season with a championship and plenty of momentum. His motocross experience, however, was limited. Injuries held him to just two events last season, so he entered 2026 seeing most of the tracks for the first time. He finished third at the season opener, followed by fourth at Hangtown and 10th at Thunder Valley. Davies’ response was straightforward. He was “going back to work on his starts and to make some changes on the bike.” The work paid off. Davies won the next two overalls, then followed those results with a third before a DNF in the second moto contributed to a 16th overall and a major hit in the points standings. His gas tank had been punctured in a pileup.

THOR/Yamaha rider Cole Davies came to the Ironman finale with the points lead and clinched the championship with one moto remaining.

Davies responded by going back to work. He won at Washougal and Unadilla, then took second at Budds Creek. By the time the series reached Ironman Raceway for the finale, he held the points lead and the red plate. Along the way, he had collected eight moto wins and four 250cc National overall victories.

The title was settled, but Davies lined up for the second moto anyway. Afterward, he climbed onto the podium as the 2026 250cc Pro Motocross National Champion, received his championship hardware, thanked his team and sponsors and celebrated another milestone in a season already filled with them. There was still another title ahead to chase.

A trophy and a No. 1 plate made for a memorable 19th birthday for 2026 250cc Pro Motocross National Champion and THOR rider Cole Davies at Ironman Raceway.

To secure the championship, Davies had to protect a 14-point lead over Levi Kitchen through the final two motos of the season. He got the start he needed and ran inside the top three. Kitchen went down early, then crashed a second time and retired from the moto. Davies finished third, giving him enough points to clinch the championship with one moto still remaining.

Davies next turns his attention to the 250cc SuperMotocross World Championship and the chance to add a third championship in 2026. Winning the 250cc SMX title would make him the first rider to capture all three 250cc championships in the same season.

“Obviously that’s the plan to go win that (the SMX Championship) too, so stay locked in and do everything in my power to do that,” Davies said at the time of winning the motocross championship. “I’m just going to enjoy it, get back to training next week and lock in on that, but for now we celebrate.”

THOR’S COLE DAVIES: 2026 PRO MX 250CC NATIONAL CHAMPION

THOR/Yamaha rider Cole Davies shares the Ironman podium with the team that helped him earn his second 250cc championship of 2026.

For now, two championships make for quite a 19th birthday. ■

» Congratulations, Cole Davies, and a belated happy birthday from Parts Magazine.

olving customers’ problems today is about more than providing information. It’s about context. A website can provide endless information, but welltrained people can put that information to work. That creates a conversation customers can trust. The LeMans Growth Academy helps turn that idea into practice, giving salespeople training and information they can use to find solutions that fit their customers’ needs. “I’m a big believer that a brand’s responsibility is to create value. A retailer’s responsibility is to communicate value and the distributor’s responsibility is to make sure those products are where they need to be at the right time,” says Kurt Kaufmann, with the LeMans Growth Academy. Sales reps who have been in the industry for years know the value of being on the road and talking with dealers face to face. They also know the time and expense involved. “The LeMans Growth Academy was born from experiences out on the road,” adds Kaufmann, who had experience as a brand salesperson visiting dealers and attending events like Sturgis. “The question was not, ‘Hey, is there value in training and supporting both reps and retailers?’ I think the question was, ‘How do we do that at scale?’” For Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties reps, that training can translate directly into more informed conversations with dealers. “The Growth Academy training courses give me better knowledge of the products that I sample to dealers. This includes a lot of good information about the companies and products,” says Nick Stofle, Arizona territory sales rep for Drag Specialties. “I can be specific as to what the item does and why it is relevant. And, I’m able to elaborate on the history of companies and where their products and ideas come from.”

18

PARTS MAGAZINE

Reps have a lot to keep track of, including hundreds of brands in the Parts Unlimited catalogs, along with their dayto-day sales responsibilities. The LeMans Growth Academy offers another way to deliver product and sales training beyond dealer visits and scheduled webinars. Those meetings still have value, but they do not have to carry the full training load. “The training courses open up a new way to get excited about the product and to improve the conversations I have with salespeople,” says Rudy Muller, a Drag Specialties rep in Colorado. “I feel the courses give dealer personnel more purpose and pride in their work. After taking the course, you feel way more in touch with the company and more confident when talking about their products.” The results can also show up in sales. “We’re seeing two-times increase in sales all the way up to 30-times increase in sales,” says Paul Devine, VP of sales and marketing for LeMans Corporation. “This is not going to fix everything. But we’re learning that good dealers use the Growth Academy, and the Growth Academy helps create even better dealers.”

CHANGING THE CONVERSATION Because the training courses are available online, salespeople can view them when their schedules allow. “You don’t have to train the sales staff over and over,” explains Devine. “The Growth Academy can do that for you.” That also makes Growth Academy training part of the regular conversation between reps and dealers. “I casually ask them if they have learned anything from the modules, then give them examples of what I have learned from the modules,” says Joe Sanderson, a Drag Specialties

LEMANS GROWTH ACADEMY

The LeMans Growth Academy gives reps another way to build product knowledge and support dealers with more informed conversations. For dealership staff, flexible online training fits around busy schedules while building the knowledge and confidence to better connect products with customers’ needs.

rep in Ohio. “This creates more interest in getting their employees educated on the products they sell.”

RETAIL SHIFT

Stofle takes a similar approach, introducing dealership staff to the program and following up during later visits.

Kaufmann knows that it’s easy for salespeople to get frustrated with the current state of retailing, particularly the disconnected nature of online selling. This, he says, is the industry’s chance to do better. For salespeople, this means creating a meaningful experience, better value and more community than customers cannot get simply scrolling through products on a phone.

“I have been starting the conversation with salespeople by showing them the link and how to sign up. I tell them about the perks of the training and benefits to the individual and the dealer,” says Stofle. “When I receive the reports on who has taken courses and who has not, I use that on my next visit and remind them that the courses are there. Usually, they haven’t finished because they had a customer or something urgent to take care of and forget to go back in. Once they realize that there is great information in there and it’s relevant, they are excited to complete the training.” Muller also uses completed courses to get sales teams talking about products and how they fit customers’ needs. “When I visit a dealer sales team, I ask what courses they’ve taken. We talk about the company history and the products. Then we discuss how the product would be beneficial to the dealer,” says Muller. “Oh, and what quizzes stumped us!”

“If you are not adding value at your retail store, why would somebody spend the time and effort to go to your brick and mortar to purchase when they can do so from their couch? It’s not that retail is dying, valueless retail is dying,” says Kaufmann. “An online retailer can say, ‘Here are 5,000 options and here’s what’s on sale.’ Online retailers serve a purpose. But the real solution comes from having conversations with customers and improving their experience. Consumers are looking for that.” ■

Moose Offroad rider Lachlan “Lala” Turner races at the Ironman National, where her 5-4 moto finishes gave her the points needed for a third consecutive WMX Championship.

THREE TIMES A CHAMPION LALA TURNER ADDS ANOTHER WMX TITLE - 2026 WOMEN’S MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP

L

achlan “Lala” Turner admits that not too long ago, she didn’t exactly know there was a professional women’s motocross championship. It might be a strange thing for a three-time champion to say, but the series wasn’t exactly well known. Two years later, the WMX Championship has a much bigger stage, and Turner has been right in the middle of that growth. After three consecutive championships, the Moose Offroad athlete has landed on magazine covers, NBC Sports broadcasts and in international media. Women’s pro motocross has gone from a series Turner barely knew existed to one with live television coverage. The rider most surprised by the rise of the WMX Championship might be Turner herself. “Two years ago, I didn’t really know what it was,” Lala confesses. “I was just racing and I won. I didn’t even race all the races and I won the championship, and the final round

was at Ponca City, an amateur race. But I won it and was like, ‘Oh, okay.’

“But the next year, I ran the number 1 plate and backed it up and it was pretty cool. It’s definitely come a long way from when I raced the first round to now. Synchrony Bank came on board with the series, and we have TV coverage now. It’s pretty cool.” Turner has spent much of her young pro career at the front of the field. She continues to train at ClubMX alongside pro men, but her 2026 championship was anything but easy. The final round at Ironman Raceway was particularly tough. It marked the first time Turner finished off the podium, but her 5-4 finishes were enough to clinch the championship. “It was definitely one of the tougher weekends for me, mentally,” she says. “I put so much pressure on myself and made things way harder than they needed to be. That was not me riding! But, when it mattered, we got it done.”

The resurgence of WMX has reshaped more than the schedule at Pro Motocross nationals. The pits are changing, too, with autograph lines growing for the female racers. While Turner has seen substantial progress over the past three years, she sees plenty of room for the WMX Championship to keep growing.

Above: The champion banner tells part of the story. Behind it, Lachlan “Lala” Turner and her team mark the end of a demanding 2026 WMX season at Ironman Raceway. Left: Three years, three WMX titles. Lachlan “Lala” Turner has grown alongside the championship she once barely knew existed, with a new challenge ahead in SuperMotocross.

Turner recalls a dramatic second moto at the Ironman National and the feeling that she had lost it all after struggling with the same corner multiple times. “That corner got me three times. When I went down, I thought, ‘Oh, I’m out.’ I thought I was done. But I kept working and riding how I know how to ride. “It wasn’t how I pictured ending the season, but that’s racing. I did the work early in the year, put myself in a good position, and when things got tough this weekend, I fought through it and brought home another championship.” Once the title was clinched, the pressure gave way to an emotional podium celebration. One moment stood out: Turner presented the Mechanic of the Year award to her mechanic and father, Dustin Turner. Racing is a family affair for the Turners. Lala’s older brother, Lux, also races professionally, while their parents remain

“I think it’s amazing that we have this opportunity,” says Lala. “I’ve been wanting to race SMX—I didn’t even care if there was a girls’ class, but finally there is and it’s just amazing that we get something new to push for.” As far as what it will take to grow the championship, cultivate more talent and continue to grow the sport, Lala thinks it needs to start with greater factory team support. Currently, there are no factory-supported WMX racers.

active in the family’s busy week-to-week schedule and are regulars at the races.

But I’m just excited that we have two motos and even more excited that we have one race on Saturdays. There’s a lot of younger girls coming up, too. I think WMX is staying for good.” The future looks bright for Turner, and for the WMX Championship. Moose Offroad is proud to be a part of her astounding success over the past three seasons. “Lala continues to show us what hard work and determination can accomplish. We couldn’t be happier to see her success at the apex of this monumental rise in WMX Racing,” says Carl van Niekerk, Moose Offroad Rider Support. “She’s not only winning championships; she and all the women out there are redefining what’s possible. The added visibility for the sport, and the fresh appeal for new fans, is the icing on the cake that makes Moose Offroad and Parts Unlimited proud to be with her on this journey.” ■

ust as summertime brings some much needed down time to Moose Offroad athletes, the fall season ignites a renewed hunger in racers eager to close out a strong year. Moose Offroad riders from coast to coast are focused on bringing home championships, or in some cases, serving notice that they are ready to be the threat in 2027. In the first National Grand Prix Championship round after the summer break, Mason Semmens had a breakthrough win, finally putting a stop to Dante Oliveira’s win streak. Semmens controlled much of the race aboard his FMF/RPM/ KTM and nabbed his career-first NGPC Pro overall win at the Dynamite Grand Prix, a round co-sanctioned by WORCS. At the same round, Liqui Moly Beta Factory Off-Road Team’s Dare Demartile finished third, making two Moose Offroad athletes on the overall podium. Semmens and Demartile also enjoyed a one-off event in the Southern California mountains during the summer break, the Big Bear MX Grand Prix at the Bear Mountain Ski Resort. Semmens claimed the overall win, while Demartile finished second.

The Liqui Moly Beta team has come alive with multiple breakthrough wins, with Zane Roberts claiming his first National Hare and Hound win of the season at the Muley Run in Panaca, Nevada. This landmark victory came a week after Roberts topped the West Hare Scrambles final, the Rocky Mountain Hare Scrambles. Roberts took the overall WHS win on the very technical and rocky course with a clever pit strategy and a strong late-race push. Also at the WHS final, fellow Moose Offroad athletes Jaden Dahners and Rachel Stout, both of the FMF/RPM/KTM Racing team also got on their respective class podiums. Dahners not only finished second in Pro 250, but also got on the overall podium in third. Rachel Stout finished third in Women Pro. Back East, Beta’s Jhak Walker continues to impress. After claiming a historic overall victory at the previous round, the American National Enduro Championship rider claimed a flawless victory in the Pro2 class, sweeping all six tests at the New England National Enduro. The Moose Offroad athlete revealed the secret to his newfound success. “Once I get

stressed about results, that’s when everything goes downhill,” says Walker. “I just make sure I’m staying calm, hitting my marks and not over-riding. You can take the track piece by piece and it all comes together at the end of the day.” At the following ANEC round, the Burning Rock National Enduro in West Virginia, AmPro Yamaha’s Liam Draper got out to a strong start, winning the first test. The Moose Offroad racer ultimately settled for second on the day – still a positive step toward the championship as Draper maintains the points lead.

Walker carded another Pro2 win at the Burning Rock, claiming fifth overall in the process. Rachel Gutish made another appearance in the series, taking second place aboard her Rieju. The Grand National Cross Country season resumed after the summer break with the muddy John Penton GNCC. The weather conditions were so intense, it prompted the three-hour race to be shortened to two. PHX Racing Honda’s Jordan Ashburn led the first lap and went on to claim third overall, maintaining his hold on the championship lead. “It really was an old-school John Penton,” says Ashburn. Many agreed that Mr. Penton would have loved the tough mudder. Ashburn’s PHX Racing Honda teammate Gus Riordan topped the XC2 250 Pro field, claiming his fifth win of the season. The first races of the fall season see multiple Moose Offroad athletes poised to collect championships in both ANEC and GNCC. Landmark wins from up-and-coming racers like Semmens and Walker give us a glimpse of the future and possible champions in 2027. “We are so proud of the hard work put in by Liam Draper and Jordan Ashburn, and look forward to seeing them finish out their seasons strong,” said Carl van Niekerk, Moose Racing Rider Support. “We still have more to go in 2026, but it has already been a great year for Moose Offroad.” ■

It’s not easy to get there. A rider must compete in a series of local qualifiers and regional championships and earn enough points to reach the starting line against some of the country’s leading amateur racers. he 45th annual Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships took place Aug. 3-8 at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. It’s a late-summer ritual for many up-and-coming motocross athletes. In addition to chasing an AMA Amateur National Championship, riders have a chance to get noticed by factory teams and other potential sponsors that can help support their amateur careers and their transition into the Pro Motocross ranks. For many years, those sponsors have included Parts Unlimited, THOR Racewear and Moose Offroad.

Moose Offroad supports off-road racing across a range of disciplines, from desert racing in the West to the woods of GNCC. That support extends to motocross, too, with Moose Offroad backing racers and riders at multiple levels, including those who earned their way to the starting line at Loretta Lynn’s.

BIG SHOW IN BREW CITY 2026 NVP PRODUCT EXPO

here’s something about getting the powersports industry together under one roof. Products are unpacked, handshakes are exchanged and conversations that started over the phone or email suddenly happen face-to-face. That was certainly the case in Milwaukee, where the 2026 North American NVP Product Expo returned to the Baird Center for its third year. Parts Unlimited dealers, sales reps and vendors poured into downtown Milwaukee for two packed days. The show floor gave dealers plenty to see. New parts, accessories, gear and apparel filled vendor booths, offering an early look at products headed to Parts Unlimited catalogs and dealerships. With Parts Unlimited, Drag Specialties and Parts Canada joining forces, the range stretched across nearly every corner of the powersports market.

32

The NVP is about more than walking aisles and checking out new products, though. It gives dealers a chance to get answers directly from the people behind those products. Vendor-led Dealer Training sessions added another layer to that education. AMS Tires, ICON, Moose Offroad, THOR and Z1R hosted Saturday sessions, giving dealers product information they could take home to their dealerships and use to better serve riders and customers. The expo also welcomed new brands including CST Tires, MPI, ProTorque, Scar, SoundExtreme and TwiceMe, giving dealers even more to explore while making their rounds. And there were plenty of rounds to make. Between booth visits, training sessions and meetings with Parts Unlimited sales reps, the weekend offered face time

that’s hard to duplicate anywhere else. Vendors could explain new products in person, reps could talk shop with dealers, and industry friends had a chance to catch up. That has always been a big part of the NVP experience. Business brings everyone to town, but the relationships help make the weekend memorable. There were some extra incentives, too. Dealers had chances to pick up gift certificates, branded backpacks and commemorative T-shirts, while giveaways kept things lively. The Grand Prize raised the stakes considerably: an all-expensepaid trip for two to the final MotoGP race in Valencia, Spain. When the show floor closed Saturday, the popular Meet & Greet/Bike Show took over the Baird Ballroom and spilled onto the Skyview Terrace overlooking downtown Milwaukee.

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN / SEPT. 12-13

The Bike Show gave everyone a chance to trade booth displays for motorcycles and enjoy the machines that brought so many people into the industry. Awards were given for a Vintage class alongside the traditional V-Twin and Metric categories. By the time the doors closed Sunday, dealers had logged plenty of steps, seen new products and had countless conversations with vendors, reps and fellow industry professionals. They headed home with product knowledge and new connections they can put to work at their dealerships.

» The next NVP Product Expo is scheduled for Jan. 23-24,

one are the days of clunky chest protectors with bulky, square plastic panels lined with thin foam bouncing around on riders at the motocross track. Much like bikes, tracks and riders, safety has evolved leaps and bounds into the sleek, functional and protective items we see today, including THOR’s new Guardian LTD roost guards. The Guardian is one of THOR’s longstanding guard lines, having protected countless riders over the years. Today, Guardian LTD roost guards are the product of rider feedback, many hours of refinement and design, plus key partnership with material specialists RHEON™ Labs. “As a staple of THOR’s body armor collection, the Guardian has become a reliable piece for track and trail riders the world over,” says Josh Shorter, Global Brand Director. “Available in the Race version featuring soft, adjustable shoulders, or Trail model that offers hardshell shoulders and adjoining upper arm guards, the Guardian is a perfect combination of impact mitigation, airflow, and minimal weight.”

Those Guardian LTD roost guard Race and Trail versions are available for both adult and youth riders. The Race version gives riders modern roost guard design and fit with next-generation materials and protection. Each Guardian LTD roost guard has an integrated back impact protector designed in collaboration with RHEON Labs. RHEON™ Labs is a group specializing in dynamic, energyabsorbing materials that instantly stiffen and dissipate energy upon impact, but remain flexible during normal use. Applied to roost guards, that’s a far stretch from those early days of glorified fabric store foam glued inside chest protectors. The placement of this high-tech material is crucial, too. THOR’s engineers identified specific impact points on the back of Guardian LTD roost guards to provide protection in the right places without adding unnecessary weight or bulk. “The pliable injection-molded chest and back components offer more flexibility to ensure optimal fit, comfort,

THOR’s Guardian LTD Trail extends protection beyond the chest and back with hardshell shoulder and upper-arm guards suited for tight, brush-lined trails.

and load dispersion, while the integration of a RHEON impact pad into the back panel offers superior protection in a lightweight and highly ventilated pad,” Shorter says. Coverage and protection provided by Guardian LTD also complies with the AMA’s rulebook requiring youth riders to have chest and back protection, and highly encouraging it for adults. This rule has been in place for a couple seasons now, but it’s very specific, stating “The protector may be worn under or over the jersey, and it should cover the sternum anterior ribs, posterior ribs, and spine from T1 to T 12.” Compliance is not a worry for either youth or adult racers with Guardian LTD roost guards. Both the Race and Trail versions of Guardian LTD roost guards share the same front and back pieces. The outer shells are made from premium plastic material to achieve durability, impact resistance and lightweight flexibility needed when riding. Beneath the outer shells and on top of the rear RHEON protection are innovative, press-fit molded comfort liner systems. This gives riders a smooth inner chassis that keeps things comfortable on the bike. Similarities shared between each version also include an adjustable waist buckle closure and a refined fit for maximum deflector coverage and ventilation. The refined fit is

achieved through shaping that naturally fits the body and protects where necessary without hindering movement. Ventilation is an added benefit; body temperature can climb quickly on the bike, even when it’s not hot out. The Guardian LTD Race roost guard features front and back protection only with flexible Biofoam shoulder pads that sit on top of the shoulders. With fully adjustable straps, this design focuses on unhindered arm movement and fitment fine tuning so your customers can get the feel they’re comfortable with. The Trail version of Guardian LTD adds both top-of-shoulder and upper-arm protection, all built with the same quality materials throughout. This extra protection comes in handy when riders are cutting trails while fighting off bushes and tree branches. “Guardian LTD Race and Trail roost guards are available for both adult and youth riders in six size options to cover the pee-wees up to 2XL. This all-new Guardian gives customers progressive technology at an excellent price,” Shorter adds. ■

Tires that Help Tell a Motorcyclist’s Story

Scott Evans suits up for another ride through Ontario’s Bruce County on his 1999 Kawasaki Concours. For dealers, Avon’s Spirit ST offers a Sport-Touring tire option for customers like Evans who put plenty of miles on older machines.

W

hen Scott Evans answered the phone to talk about Avon Tyres, he was on his way to a bike night on his 1999 Kawasaki Concours, riding on a set of Avon Spirit ST tires.

Evans lives in the village of Tiverton, Ontario, and the Sauble Beach bike night is 50 miles away. He doesn’t mind the distance, since riding through Bruce County is one of his favorite things to do. He documents the sights along the way, with his camera always ready. That mix of riding motorcycles and producing content isn’t new to Evans, whose background is in TV and journalism. When he started a job with Rogers Television in 2000, Evans produced and hosted on-air segments about motorcycles and roadracing – his two passions. Evans has been riding since he was about 7 years old. When his parents said no to buying him a motorcycle, Evans got his hands on his cousin’s Honda as well as friends’ dirtbikes. When Evans received a drum set from his parents, he sold it to help pay for a 2-stroke Kawasaki. That tenacity has defined Evans throughout his life. After a heart attack and bypass surgery in 2020, Evans was more determined to ride than ever. “It makes you realize that life is short,” says the 62-yearold. “That kind of stuff really makes you sit up and notice where you’re at in life.” In the winter of 2022, a longtime friend texted Evans a photo of a bike, adding, “I bought it for my friend Scott.”

PARTS MAGAZINE

His friend had bought the Kawasaki Concours for him, knowing Evans would love it. The bike arrived with a set of Avon Spirit ST tires, and it was the first time Evans had tried them out. “They’re great!” Evans says. “They work fantastic traction-wise, and I haven’t noticed significant wear on them. Handling is impressive. She’s a big heavy bike, and they track straight and provide outstanding adhesion at all lean angles.” Another important factor for Evans is how well the Spirit ST tires handle a fully loaded bike since he rides with a camera and a drone as well as luggage. Plus, the Concours has a 16-inch rear, which isn’t a typical size. Luckily, Avon offers its tires in those hard-to-find options. The Spirit ST is a high-performance Sport-Touring tire, and Evans knows a thing or two about the performance side of things. After getting his street license at 15, Evans got a Honda 400 twin to ride around town, but that didn’t last long. “Much to my parents’ chagrin, I stripped down the street bike I was riding and did what I could to make it faster and started racing with it,” Evans says. Along the way, he occasionally joined the pit crew for one of Canada’s top roadracers. These days, you can find Evans riding around Bruce County, appreciating every moment. ■

otorcycle riders can now channel their favorite movie and game characters, and it’s all part of gearing up for the ride. HJC has partnered with companies like Marvel, Universal and Call of Duty to give riders helmets right out of their favorite movie and game franchises. “Back in 2015, when we first partnered with Marvel, there were doubts; some thought no serious adult would ever wear a superhero helmet,” says George Hong, President, HJC America. “We decided to challenge that idea and released our first Spider-Man and Venom helmets. The response was immediate and overwhelming. Riders weren’t just interested, they were excited. Many had been waiting for something like this.” It wasn’t just riders who were interested, though. HJC began to get interesting sales data from these special graphics: collectors were buying the helmets, too. Not only that, but some of those enthusiasts went on to learn how to ride themselves. As it turns out, one entry to motorcycling can be through someone’s favorite game or movie franchise. “My philosophy is that anything we can do to bring more people to our sport, even better,” Hong says. The high-performance RPHA 12 helmet has a list of licensed graphics available for riders and franchise fans

For those with a preference for darker characters, there’s an RPHA 12 Venom helmet that shows off plenty of teeth and menace. There’s an Anti-Venom option, as well. Call of Duty Zombies players tend to gravitate to the RPHA 12 Mister Peeks helmet, which depicts the deranged stuffed bunny in detail. “Interestingly, we discovered a clear trend: riders often gravitate more toward the villains than the heroes,” notes Hong. “That insight, along with feedback and ideas from our customers, pushed us to expand even further, into gaming, animation, energy drinks, movies, toys and beyond.” But, for those riders who do prefer the heroes, the HJC F100 Ant-Man modular helmet looks like a prop straight out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. HJC’s V10 helmet also has an array of graphics options, including the fun, impossible-to-miss Minions option. The bright-yellow helmet features a single Minion eye, right on top. Of course, some riders prefer reality to fantasy, which is why HJC also offers racing-focused graphics. Snake in the Sand

Purpose-Built Grip for Dune Riding

S

and season is right around the corner, and customers chasing steep dune climbs and soft, unpredictable terrain need a tire built specifically for the job. AMS Tires is answering the call with the Sand Snake, a purpose-built sand tire engineered to deliver serious traction where it counts most, giving dealers a head start on stocking up before demand hits. “When deep sand and steep dunes demand maximum traction, this purpose-built sand tire is engineered to deliver the pulling power, stability and confidence riders need,” says Dylan Titus, AMS Brand Manager. At the heart of that performance is a specialized paddle design that wraps around the tire’s shoulder, increasing contact area and delivering traction when climbing steep inclines. That added grip helps translate into maximum drive right when riders need it most, particularly on steep climbs and loose, shifting terrain. The same paddle profile also boosts straight-line traction and stability, helping the bike track confidently through soft, unpredictable sand rather than fighting for direction. It’s a difference customers will notice whether they’re charging across open dunes or working their way up a steep sand climb. Rounding out the build is an advanced natural rubber compound designed to run cooler while adding abrasion resistance. That combination is aimed at keeping the Sand Snake dependable through the kind of demanding, high-heat conditions that come with extended sand riding, where a tire running too hot can wear out fast. For customers dialing in their setup, the Sand Snake comes in three paddle configurations – six-paddle, eight-paddle and 10-paddle – so riders can match the tire to their sand application and performance needs. Each configuration is engineered specifically for sandonly applications, giving dealers a lineup that can cover a wide range of riders and riding styles. AMS Tires has also expanded the range with a new Tube Type (TT) rear 120/100-18, giving dealers another fitment option to offer customers looking for serious sand performance. With sand season starting up, now is a good time for dealers to get the Sand Snake in front of customers building out their setup ahead of the season’s first rides. ■

Modern Chain Tech for Classic Machines

Vintage-bike customers can retain a classic look with RK Chain’s SV530UWR, a narrow-clearance 530 chain featuring silver components and modern UW-seal technology.

O

ne of the most rewarding aspects of motorcycle ownership is restoring and preserving vintage machines. For enthusiasts dedicated to bringing classic motorcycles back to life, finding replacement parts can become increasingly difficult as the years pass. Recognizing the needs of this community, RK Chain has developed a chain specifically engineered for vintage motorcycles. The RK SV530UWR is engineered for vintage motorcycles that require a narrow-clearance 530 chain, particularly models originally equipped with traditional non-sealed chains. With a maximum width of just 22.7mm, the UWR is designed to fit classic British motorcycles such as Norton and Triumph models, as well as Japanese models including the Honda CB750, CL450 and other vintage applications from the 1960s and 1970s. Designed to complement the appearance of restored motorcycles, the SV530UWR features bright silver inner and outer side plates, along with silver pins and rollers. The finish provides a vintage look while offering improved corrosion resistance. The SV530UWR uses RK’s exclusive UW-seal technology, which minimizes friction while retaining lubrication where it is needed most. According to RK, this sealing system delivers a chain wear life more than four times longer than a comparable non-sealed chain. By combining classic styling with modern sealed-chain technology, the RK SV530UWR gives restorers and riders a way to maintain the look of their vintage motorcycles while adding the durability of a sealed chain. RK Chain also serves the growing segment of smalldisplacement street motorcycles that use 420-pitch

chains, including models such as the Honda Grom, Honda Monkey and Kawasaki Z125. RK’s BL420MRU is engineered to deliver the durability benefits of a sealed chain while minimizing added width and friction. Featuring RK’s proprietary Ultra-Thin Seal URing technology, the seal thickness is less than 50 percent of that found in conventional O-ring chains. This design allows the BL420MRU to retain the lightweight characteristics of a non-sealed chain while extending chain wear life. Compared with non-sealed 420 chains, RK says the BL420MRU delivers up to four times longer chain life and requires fewer adjustments, reducing maintenance over time. The BL420MRU is available in RK’s Black Scale finish, featuring black inner and outer side plates accented by gold pins and rollers. RK Chain continues to apply its engineering to specialized motorcycle segments. Whether preserving vintage motorcycles or improving the durability of modern mini motorcycles, the company offers purpose-built chain options for distinct applications. ■

Ready for Anything

Tires Built for Work and Weekends The Kenda Klever X/T pairs an aggressive tread with reinforced shoulder lugs and radial construction, helping UTV owners tackle farm work, rough terrain and weekend trail rides through changing conditions.

That mix of work and recreation is exactly why the Klever X/T continues to resonate with dealers and customers alike. It delivers the durability needed for demanding jobs without giving up the traction and ride quality that riders appreciate once the workday is over. Demand for the Klever X/T has continued to grow, and Kenda responded by adding three new sizes: 30x10R15, 33x10R15 and 35x10R15. The additions give dealers more fitment options for today’s popular UTV applications while answering requests from customers and Parts Unlimited sales reps alike. Co-developed with Kenda’s LT engineering department, the Klever X/T is designed for improved durability, reduced road noise and better ride quality. The result is a tire that feels just as comfortable covering miles around the property as it does on a weekend trail ride.

F

or plenty of UTV owners, the same machine that goes to work on Monday is expected to be ready for the trails by Saturday. It might spend the week hauling feed, checking fence lines or moving equipment before heading out for a weekend ride or a hunting trip. That kind of versatility calls for a tire that can handle changing demands without asking your customers to compromise. That’s where the Kenda Klever X/T fits in. “The Klever X/T has become one of the most versatile tires in our UTV lineup because it meets the needs of today’s UTV consumer. Whether it’s being used around the farm, on the jobsite, or for weekend trail rides, consumers want a tire that can do it all,” says Chad Ellis, Brand Development Manager for Kenda Tire USA. “As demand for the Klever X/T continued to grow, expanding the lineup with these popular fitments was a natural next step for us.”

PARTS MAGAZINE

An 8-ply, steel-belted radial construction provides the durability needed for demanding work. An aggressive tread pattern and reinforced shoulder lugs add traction while helping protect the tire in rough terrain. Together, those features make the Klever X/T a practical choice for customers who expect one tire to handle a variety of jobs and riding conditions. That versatility helps explain the Klever X/T’s continued success. It’s dependable enough for work around the farm or ranch, aggressive enough for trail riding and comfortable enough for everyday use. For many UTV owners, that’s exactly what they’re looking for. By expanding the Klever X/T lineup with 30x10R15, 33x10R15 and 35x10R15 fitments, Kenda gives Parts Unlimited dealers more ways to serve today’s UTV customers. As the segment continues to grow, those additional sizes make it easier to match more riders with a tire built for both work and recreation. ■

50 Years of Control ÖHLINS PUTS SUSPENSION WITHIN R E AC H F O R PA R T S D E A L E R S

F

ifty years is worth celebrating. For Öhlins, though, its 50th anniversary is also a chance to look at how an idea born from racing in 1976 continues to reach riders today.

The Parts Unlimited supplier got its start when Kenth Öhlin saw a need in motocross. Engine performance had advanced faster than suspension capability, creating a need for better control. Solving that real-world performance problem became the foundation for Öhlins and established a pattern the company still follows: Racing uncovers problems, engineers work to solve them and that knowledge ultimately makes its way into products for riders. Half a century later, the Öhlins name has spread far beyond motocross. That includes the metric motorcycle market, where the company sees opportunities across Adventure, performance street, off-road and racing-inspired applications. The anniversary celebration itself is reaching across the Atlantic. Members of the Öhlins USA team and key partners will take part in the company’s global celebration in Sweden. Back home, the milestone will be tied into dealer, distributor, racing and customer activities throughout the year. For Öhlins USA CEO Scott MacDonald, that makes the anniversary more than a look back. It is also a recommitment to the U.S. market. “For us, this is not just a corporate milestone; it is an opportunity to show how the Öhlins story lives in the U.S. market through technical support, racing involvement, dealer education, and premium aftermarket growth,” MacDonald says.

60

PARTS MAGAZINE

It is also an opportunity for the Öhlins USA team to reconnect with the thinking that launched the company. Öhlins began by solving performance problems, and MacDonald wants that mindset to resonate throughout the company, from engineering and product management to sales, service, operations and customer support. For Parts Unlimited dealers, that opportunity reaches across Adventure, performance street, off-road and racing-inspired applications. Adventure is a strong segment as riders expect one motorcycle to do more, from carrying luggage and passengers to covering long distances and handling imperfect roads or light offroad surfaces. Öhlins also sees continued opportunity in performance street, track day, MotoAmerica-influenced sportbike applications, American Flat Track, motocross, off-road and select custom segments. The common thread is riders looking for more control, more confidence and a more premium riding experience. The opportunity goes beyond customers chasing outright performance, too. “The biggest opportunity is to broaden the conversation from performance to ride quality, comfort, safety, and confidence,” MacDonald says. “Many customers do not walk into a dealership asking for a premium suspension upgrade, but they do talk about problems suspension can solve. They say the bike feels harsh, bottoms out, dives under braking, wallows in corners, feels unstable with a passenger, or does not feel as planted as they expected.”

★ N o v em b e r 2 0 2 6 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Dealers can start by asking how a customer actually rides. Does the rider travel solo or two-up? Carry luggage? Spend most of the time around town or on long trips? Is the problem harshness, bottoming, brake dive, cornering feel or comfort? Is the goal simple improvement or more adjustability? The answers can help shift the discussion away from price and toward matching the suspension to the rider and the motorcycle. “Öhlins is a premium brand, but premium cannot mean complicated for the dealer,” MacDonald says. “Our job is to help dealers turn technical suspension benefits into practical customer value: better control, better comfort, more confidence, improved traction, and a motorcycle that feels more connected to the rider.” That customer value is backed by the engineering that has developed throughout Öhlins’ five decades. The company’s technologies include TTX twin-tube damping, STX monotube shocks and NIX cartridge systems, all built around managing damping, consistency, serviceability and adjustability.

Öhlins National Sales Manager Roberto Santiago connects with two dealers at NVP. Face time with dealers supports the company’s growing V-Twin presence and helps bring its suspension knowledge to Parts Unlimited dealers and their customers.

Ö H L I N S C E L E B R AT E S 50 T H A N N I V E R S A R Y

Those concerns give dealers an opening. Suspension becomes relevant not only to the performance-minded rider but also to touring customers, commuters and riders carrying passengers or loaded bags.

Racing remains a major part of that development process. Today, disciplines including American Flat Track, Bagger Racing League, King of the Baggers and MotoAmerica are among those providing the demanding environments that feed the company’s engineering culture. “That does not mean every customer needs a race shock,” MacDonald says. “It means the same engineering culture that solves racing problems also improves road-going products. Better damping control, more consistent performance, reduced fade, improved traction, and useful adjustability all come from that racing foundation.” Getting those technical benefits across to customers is where MacDonald sees the relationship between Öhlins USA, LeMans Corporation and the Parts Unlimited sales force playing an important role. Parts reps already work directly with dealers, giving Öhlins another way to provide product education and help shops identify suspension opportunities. “For a technical product, that field connection is critical,” MacDonald says. “Suspension is not always an impulse sale. It often requires education, confidence, and the ability to explain why the upgrade matters.” As the anniversary year continues, MacDonald says Öhlins USA plans to build on that dealer connection with stronger training, clearer product positioning and better tools for matching suspension to riders. Setup, serviceability and technical guidance after the sale remain part of that equation as well. That makes 50 years both a milestone and a starting point. The racing-driven approach that began in 1976 still shapes

From left: Parts Unlimited dealer Dave from Mercer Powersports checks out the Öhlins suspension lineup with the company’s Mike Himmelsbach at the 2025 Milwaukee NVP. Face-to-face conversations like this give NVP dealers another way to build product knowledge they can take back to their customers.

Öhlins, while MacDonald and the Öhlins USA team are using the anniversary to strengthen the relationships that bring that technology to riders. For Parts dealers, that puts a half-century of suspension experience behind a simple conversation at the parts counter: How does your customer want the motorcycle to ride? The International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association reports 93,789 new snowmobiles sold worldwide in 2026, up from 92,387 in 2025. U.S. sales held nearly steady at 41,728 units, while Canadian sales rose to 36,160. Together, the two countries accounted for about 83 percent of worldwide sales. Those numbers suggest a market finding its footing after some off years. They also show how much of the world’s snowmobile business is concentrated in North America. Within the United States, the Midwest accounted for 42 percent of new-snowmobile sales in 2026, followed by the West at 31 percent and the Northeast at 27 percent. New machines, though, are only part of a dealer’s snow business. Riders with sleds already in the garage still need to prepare for the first snowfall. That can mean replacing worn parts, scheduling service, checking a helmet or finding gear that will keep them comfortable when temperatures drop. Once the season starts, those needs continue. A rider planning a weekend on local trails may need maintenance items or replacement gear. Someone getting ready for a longer trip may want to address a service issue before loading the trailer. Helping customers take care of those needs gives dealers a reason to stay connected with them throughout the winter. Snowmobiling also brings business to communities along the trail. Riders stop for fuel and meals, and longer trips can mean nights at local hotels and lodges. ISMA estimates that the sport generates billions of dollars in annual economic activity across the United States and Canada. For a dealer, the practical point is simpler: When riders make plans to get out on the snow, they need their machines and gear ready to go. The sales figures also offer a reminder that snow is a regional business. A dealer’s customers may ride nearby trails, travel to another part of the state or head farther from home to find good conditions. Talking with them about how and where they ride can help the dealership point them toward the parts, accessories and apparel that fit their plans. That conversation starts before winter and carries through the season. A customer who comes in for one maintenance item might also be preparing for a trip or replacing gear that has seen several seasons of use. Dealers who ask what’s ahead can help riders spot what they need before the next ride. New-sled sales may be stabilizing, but the machines already in use continue to bring customers through the door. The Parts Unlimited Snow catalog brings together parts, accessories and riding gear to help dealers serve them from pre-season preparation through the final ride of winter. snowmobile sale is one transaction. Getting that machine ready for winter and keeping it on the snow can bring a rider back to the dealership again and again. For Parts Unlimited dealers in snow country, that makes the market bigger than its annual newunit sales suggest.

Keep the Heat On

Heated Gear Options for Street and Snow

W

inter doesn’t have to mean the end of riding season. For customers who trade two wheels for a sled once the temperature drops, or who keep riding motorcycles through the first cold snap, staying warm can make the difference between a good day riding and a short one. It’s also a slower season at the parts counter, which makes cold-weather gear an easy way for dealers to keep customers coming through the door. Gerbing built its reputation on 12V heated motorcycle gear, and the company is bringing that same technology to a new lineup of snow riding accessories this season, giving dealers a wider range of heated gear to offer customers on the street and trail. The new collection includes heated balaclavas, hand warmers, heated hats and neck gaiters, giving customers more ways to layer up under a helmet or jacket without losing mobility. Each piece uses the same low-voltage heat technology found in Gerbing’s motorcycle gear, bringing that familiar approach to a smaller, more packable format for snowmobiling and other cold-weather riding. Among those options is Gerbing’s 5V Electric Heated Hand Warmer, a lightweight, rechargeable unit with three heat settings and temperatures up to 130 degrees. A touch-button control handles power, heat adjustment and battery monitoring, while USB-C charging helps get the unit powered up quickly. It also doubles as a portable power bank for charging USB-powered devices on the go. On the motorcycle side, Gerbing’s 12V Heated Jacket Liner gives riders heat they can control from the saddle. Paired with the brand’s Vanguard Heated Gloves, which plug directly into the jacket liner, riders get a connected system that keeps hands and core warm through one power source instead of separate battery packs or wiring. The jacket liner and gloves are designed to work together, but each also functions on its own for customers who only need to heat one zone. The new snow accessories are standalone pieces, so dealers can recommend a hand warmer or balaclava on its own or as an add-on to a customer’s existing heated riding setup. Between the new snow lineup and Gerbing’s established 12V motorcycle gear, dealers have more ways to keep the heated gear conversation going with customers through the colder months. ■

Purpose-Built Helmets for Snowmobile Riders

nowmobile riders have different needs than motorcycle riders, which means their helmets should be different, too. HJC has a long history in the snowmobile market, offering different snow helmets depending on a rider’s needs. The purpose-built i80SN snow helmet leads the way with a focus on comfort, fit and protection. HJC’s 4 snow helmets are all available with, or compatible with, electric and dual-lens shields, and each one features adjustability and pricing designed for various types of snow riding needs, from the seasoned long-distance rider to the casual enthusiast. “Snow riding creates a very different set of demands than street riding, so simply taking a street helmet and calling it a snow helmet isn’t enough,” says Robert Burgos, General Manager, HJC America. “Cold temperatures, moisture, fogging, wind protection and the need to operate the helmet while wearing winter gloves all have to be considered.” The i80SN is built on the i80 modular Adventure helmet, but with key differences. Designed for riders used to logging long days on a sled, the snow-specific chin bar and integrated vent hood help deflect snow while still allowing airflow through the helmet. The lower vent and longer visor tab are both easy to operate with thick winter gloves on. An integrated, adjustable breath box is designed for efficient defogging, even in freezing conditions. “These may seem like small details, but they can make a significant difference when you’re riding in cold condi-

tions,” notes Burgos. “The goal is to take what we already know about helmet safety, comfort and performance and adapt the helmet around the real-world needs of snow riders, rather than simply adapting a street helmet with winter accessories.” The snow-specific features make the i80SN helmet ideal for snowmobile riders, but the helmet also offers a range of comfort and convenience perks. The chin bar easily flips up, the removable, washable liner is moisture-wicking to keep the rider’s face dry, and built-in grooves accommodate eyeglasses. HJC has three other snow helmets, suited to different riding styles and preferences. The C10 Snow Full Face helmet has a lightweight polycarbonate composite shell paired with enhanced defogging features. In all, it is a straightforward option that’s ideal for cold, wet conditions and thermal management. In addition to the i80SN, snow riders who prefer modular options can choose from the i91SN Modular or C91SN Modular helmet. Both the i91SN and C91SN have an internal sun shield and come ready for pairing with a SMART HJC Bluetooth system. The i91SN’s removable breath guard, chin curtain and shield vent plugs are all designed to fine-tune the internal conditions for fog management and warmth retention. The C91SN Modular helmet features an easy-release button designed for gloved hands, and like its street counterpart, the C91, it is a lightweight, affordable option. ■

hen a starter fails, getting a customer’s machine running again calls for the right replacement. For dealers and repair shops, that means having access to starters built for the application, with the construction and output needed to get the job done. Protorque Parts has built its business around rotating electrical engine parts and accessories, including replacement starters for powersports applications. Founded in 2016 by Alan Karafin and Richard Benanti, the company takes a quality-first approach backed by the owners’ combined 60 years of experience in aftermarket engine parts. Protorque offers replacement starters for a range of Polaris ATV and UTV models as well as Ski-Doo snowmobiles. The units are manufactured under strict quality-control standards and are designed to meet or exceed original equipment specifications. For customers with select Polaris 600cc, 700cc and 800cc Frontier, Ranger, RZR and Sportsman models, Protorque offers a 12-volt, 9-tooth PMDD starter with several design details aimed at durability. Its specially designed motor housing incorporates an inner sleeve that helps stabilize the magnets and reduce chipping. Keeping those fragments away from the armature helps prevent them from jamming or damaging the motor.

Protorque’s PMDD Starter fits select 500cc to 1000cc Ski-Doo snowmobiles and features upgraded seals, bearings and a coated Bendix gear.

That starter also uses a triple-wound armature and four-brush set to provide ample starting power. It’s a combination that gives dealers another replacement option when servicing a broad range of Polaris machines. For select Polaris 850cc and 1000cc Scrambler and Sportsman models, Protorque has a 12-volt, 12-tooth PMGR starter. Like the original Polaris unit, this replacement uses a rubber epoxy coating designed to help protect key areas of the starter from harsh environmental exposure. That’s an important consideration for machines built to spend plenty of time outside and off pavement. Snowmobile customers are covered, too. Protorque’s 12-volt, 8-tooth PMDD starter fits various Ski-Doo models ranging from 500cc to 1000cc. The 0.6kW starter features freshly machined mounting surfaces, a high-quality bearing, upgraded seals and a coated Bendix gear. Behind those products is a company focused on the rotating electrical category. Protorque works with factories that maintain ISO, QS, TS and CE certifications. For dealerships, that means a selection of replacement starters covering popular powersports applications, with application-specific features designed into each unit. ■

Updated Looks for a Carbon Helmet

R

ICON’s Airframe Pro Carbon Hyperstrike combines a handcrafted carbon-fiber shell with a compact profile and aerodynamics shaped for riders in an aggressive sport-riding position.

iding hard isn’t just something racers do. Plenty of sportbike riders have an aggressive streetriding style, and they deserve a helmet that matches it. The Airframe Pro Carbon helmet is a longtime staple in the ICON performance-helmet lineup, and now, the Hyperstrike graphic elevates the Airframe Pro (AFP) Carbon to a whole new level. The AFP Carbon helmet was developed on the track and stunting grounds, but it’s designed for those street riders who want a true performance helmet. The AFP Carbon Hyperstrike is a new graphic expression of this proven helmet, available in gold, red and green colorways. Like its unadorned carbon counterpart, the Hyperstrike helmet features a compact profile, customizable comfort and performance features designed for aggressive sport riding. The lightweight shell is handcrafted from carbon fiber, and ICON applied its “Angle of Attack” philosophy to the shape. Designed for an aggressive riding stance, the helmet has the right aerodynamics and comfort for a tucked-in position. “A track pedigree doesn’t make the Airframe Pro Carbon less suited to the street, it means it was developed to perform when riding gets demanding,” explains ICON Senior Designer John Whitaker. “The AFP’s aggressive aerodynamics, carbon fiber shell and highly customizable

fit were shaped around the speeds and body position of sport riding, then refined for real-world use.” The AFP Carbon Hyperstrike has compact construction, which further enhances its aerodynamic features. With four shell and EPS sizes available, riders get a low-profile exterior no matter which size they’re wearing. Inside, the Hydradry interior consists of five separate components. Since there are tighter and looser liner elements available separately, riders can fine-tune the fit. The ventilation is adjustable, too, so the airflow in the helmet stays at a comfortable level. Riders can dial in the Airframe Pro Carbon Hyperstrike with tighter or looser Hydradry liner components, while adjustable ventilation helps manage airflow inside the helmet.

In addition to the new Hyperstrike graphic option, the AFP Carbon helmet also benefits from the new ICON Optics Pinlock Kits. Each kit pairs the shield and Pinlock anti-fog insert together into a single package. It’s an easy upgrade for riders and dealers alike, with just one part number needed for the upgrade. Riders can choose a standard street shield or a tear-off setup.

The customization options for the AFP Hyperstrike don’t end there. By removing the side plates and using an ICON TracShield, the helmet gets a cleaner look, and the rider gets a wider, taller view of what’s ahead. ■

ike many making a living in the motorcycle industry, Nick Salmen’s love for two wheels started early.

“I grew up riding motorcycles with my dad,” Nick explains. “There were four of us kids, and my dad would give my siblings a ride on his motorcycle before he gave me a ride. I wasn’t the youngest or oldest, but I’d always be the last one and we would just go out and get lost and ride the longest. And that was the norm for us. If we were going to my grandma’s house, we’d just hop on the motorcycle. “It wasn’t until I was 9 years old that my parents bought us our first ATV. After that, there seemed to be a bit of a snowball effect with a four-wheeler, a go-kart, and then a dirtbike. “Then, when I was 14, my parents moved us to 20 acres in the country and I ended up out there thinking I was a motocross racer while jumping terraces but landing flat and breaking ankles on an old XR100.”

Today, Nick owns Salmen Cycle Solutions (SCS) in Sioux City, Iowa, a shop built around customer service, repair and performance. That lifelong interest in powersports still shapes the way Nick runs SCS. The shop works on a wide range of machines, but it has earned a strong local reputation for what Nick considers its calling cards: customer service, workmanship and performance tuning. “We’re known for our customer service and our workmanship,” he says. “We do things to the fullest, and that’s one of my best curses. I cannot do anything half-assed. Among the local people, we’re known as the go-to shop for performance tuning - we have an in-house dyno and that’s where I spend most of my days.”

Parts and accessories support Salmen Cycle Solutions’ repair and performance business, with Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties serving as the shop’s first sources for products.

to test at the shop. That broad range reflects Nick’s own background in powersports.

“We were able to put it on the podium a couple of times, and probably should have put it on the podium three or four more times, but when you’re pushing it hard you crash sometimes.”

“And that kind of goes back to what we’re known for,” Nick says. “We’ve been through and done it all - I originally did sportbike stunt shows in Sioux City when stunting first came around, and then we started making appearances at the drag strip and were known there for going fast, then got into the Harley stunt stuff, and then roadracing. So, we’re also known for our diversity.” Nick put that mix of riding experience and performance tuning to work in the 2025 Bagger Racing League season. “We went out with the oldest bike, the only five-speed, and the only one with 41mm forks,” he explains. “It was a crashed bike that we hauled up from the basement, made all of our own race parts for, and then went out and put some fear in those guys in the Super Street category. It was a hellraiser. It was gnarly. We called it The Black Pearl.

The path to owning SCS began with a dealership experience that might sound familiar to some. Nick remembers walking into a local Kawasaki dealer with cash in his pocket and plans to buy a specific motorcycle. Before he got close to the bikes, an employee yelled, “Don’t touch those!” The encounter stuck with him. Nick had studied business and auto mechanics and already considered himself a gearhead. He decided that one day he would open a motorcycle shop and do things differently. By his early 20s, Nick was working for a local powersports dealer. In January 2007, at age 23, he and his wife Kristine opened SCS with help from their friend Cody. A few years later, their friend Zach joined them.

The move meant closing SCS in 2018 because of the conflict of interest. Nick went on to serve 64 shops across a large territory, an experience that gave him a close look at how other dealerships operated. “Once I was out in the field and seeing all of those other shops, I realized there was nobody out there doing what we were doing - in-shop fabrication, building nitrous drag bikes, doing turbo stuff, building choppers - and knew I had to go back.”

Rather than pack it with products, Nick uses the showroom to highlight motorcycling history alongside the history of Sioux City and SCS, giving customers a sense of the shop’s roots as soon as they walk through the door. Sioux City has deep ties to motorcycle history, particularly the chopper scene. Custom bike builder Tom Fugle, who died in 2016, called Sioux City home and is widely associated with the early chopper movement. “I have a huge appreciation for that sort of history, and that’s some of the stuff that I want people to feel, see and be able to check out when they walk through the showroom,” Nick says. “So that’s what we wanted it to be more about - a vibe, rather than as if you’re stepping into

Behind that showroom is a service operation built to handle volume. The service department, fabrication area and dyno room occupy a little more than 4,000 square feet. Seven lifts include four dedicated to quick day-today jobs and an automotive-size lift for UTVs. Another 2,500 square feet is dedicated to storing customer bikes.

LEMANS AS A PARTNER At SCS, parts sales and service are closely linked. “Everything we sell goes through the service department - so it’s all hard parts for repair and performance,” Nick says. That makes product availability and quick delivery especially important to the operation.

During the busy season, SCS can have 50 to 70 customer motorcycles awaiting service.

“Parts and Drag are always the first books we go to,” Nick says. “They have the widest variety of parts and we get the product in a timely manner within one or two days.”

“There are only four of us full-time myself dyno tuning and wrenching, my wife who basically runs the front, Bailey who is my right-hand man leading the shop, and Thomas who is a ‘jack of all trades’ and gives attention where needed,” Nick explains. “Also, there are two part-time guys who help us out throughout the summer.”

Nick’s relationship with Parts Unlimited also extends beyond ordering parts. His connection with Oliva goes back years, including Nick’s own time as a LeMans sales rep.

WORD OF MOUTH Despite Sioux City’s population of around 80,000, SCS draws customers from a three- to four-hour radius, including eastern Nebraska, southern South Dakota and southern Minnesota. That reach has been built largely through wordof-mouth, with little advertising or social media. “We do zero advertising and have almost no social media presence,” Nick says. “For us it’s really just word-of-mouth because we’re known as a solid shop with a solid group of guys doing what we say we’re going to do.”

“Rob has always been a friend, a mentor, and a substantial part of our shop’s success,” he says. “When Rob was my Parts rep, he took our shop to the next level and gave me the push that I needed.” Oliva has watched SCS develop from a small repair operation into the business it is today.

Most of SCS’s business centers on repair, tuning and performance work. Sportbike customers typically come in for exhaust and tuning upgrades, while Harley riders account for much of the shop’s engine, performance and tuning work.

“Nick’s shop is a loyal supporter of Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited, and we are proud of the way he represents our products and services his customers,” Rob says. “I first met Nick when he applied for a job at the store I owned in Iowa, made the mistake of not hiring him at the time, and watched him flourish at another store in the area. His ability to connect with customers, his passion for motorsports, and his incredible work ethic were undeniable.”

That seasonal demand can become so strong that SCS has to narrow its workload. During the busiest stretch, the team often turns away ATV and UTV work despite having space for the machines.

Oliva has also watched Nick’s career come full circle, from running SCS to working as a dual Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties rep, then returning to build the shop around service, repair, performance and dyno tuning.

“While we have the room, we just don’t have the manpower,” he says. “Now, as we enter Fall, we’ll be letting them back in. I know that may turn some customers off, and that’s unfortunate, but it’s what works for us.”

According to Oliva, Nick’s riding experience is just as broad as his technical background. He rides Harleys, Adventure bikes and dirtbikes, along with backcountry snowmobiles. Oliva says that experience, combined with Nick’s racing and stunt-riding background, helps him connect with customers as both a technician and a fellow enthusiast.

The shop also makes room for one group regardless of workload: traveling motorcyclists. “We never turn away a traveler,” he says. “It doesn’t matter what we’re in the middle of or what we are doing, we always help people who are traveling.”

For Nick, though, SCS remains a team effort. After nearly two decades of building, closing, reopening and expanding the business, he points back to the people around him. “I chalk it all up to them, for sure,” he says. ■

hether customers are heading out on a snowmobile, loading up a UTV or simply looking for music around the garage or campsite, good audio needs to keep up. SoundExtreme offers several ways to bring music along, with portable and vehicle-mounted options built to handle outdoor use. Dealers got a first look at the SoundExtreme lineup when it was unveiled at the Milwaukee NVP. That range includes the DEFENDER by ECOXGEAR and two versions of the Pulse 28-inch soundbar. While each takes a different approach, all three give customers wireless audio, durable construction and the ability to connect multiple compatible speakers through EcoCast. “Since 2008 ECOXGEAR’s SoundExtreme products have been designed to meet and exceed IPX67 dust, mud, and

waterproof conditions,” says Greg Fadul, CEO. “We are excited to partner with Parts Unlimited to drive sales of our awardwinning products into their best-in-class dealer network.” For customers who want their audio completely portable, the 10-pound DEFENDER combines a 100-watt Texas Instruments amplifier with a two-way speaker system featuring a 6x9-inch full-range polypropylene carbon driver and 1.7inch titanium tweeter. Three EQ settings let users tailor the sound for indoor or outdoor use or save a favorite setting. The DEFENDER is IP67 rated for protection against water and dust. It can withstand submersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes and even floats - a great option for a lazy river float. With more than 25 hours of playtime or more than six hours at maximum volume, customers can keep the music going for long days outside. LED lighting, a flashlight, USB-C charging, an external microphone input and speakerphone capabilities add to its versatility. For powersports applications, SoundExtreme offers its Pulse 28-inch soundbar in powered and battery versions. Both pack a 500-watt peak amplifier and eight marine-grade speakers into an IP66-rated enclosure. Two independently sealed speaker compartments provide true stereo separation, while Bluetooth 5.1 makes streaming music simple. The standard Pulse gets upgraded speakers and bottomfacing woofers for richer sound. Programmable RGB speaker lighting covers two zones, while an integrated LEDCast controller can operate two additional zones when paired with optional SoundExtreme lighting kits. A rear-facing LED light bar and down-facing convenience light add useful illumination. The soundbar is built for ATVs, UTVs, boats and golf carts, with threaded holes providing multiple mounting options. For customers who would rather skip wiring into a vehicle’s power, the Pulse 28-inch Battery soundbar adds a rear-installed lithium-ion battery with up to 20 hours of playtime. Charge it, mount it and go. Like the standard Pulse, it offers waterproof AUX connections, RGB lighting and multiple control options, including a waterproof keypad, RF remote and the SoundExtreme app. EcoCast ties the lineup together, allowing customers to wirelessly link up to 100 compatible SoundExtreme and ECOXGEAR products. That gives your customers audio options that can work alone or become part of a much larger setup. ■

An Off-Road Helmet Packed with Features

H

elmets continue to evolve as new technology and features become available, and the Alpinestars S-M7 off-road helmet is the next step in that evolution. The helmet comes ready with a long list of features, as well as additional options for customizing it to a rider’s needs.

The Alpinestars S-M7 integrates PLASMA technology into the helmet shell and side pads, providing added shock absorption in an area associated with potential collarbone contact.

The S-M7 begins with a multi-layer shell comprised of fiberglass, carbon fiber and Aramid fiber. This combination keeps the helmet light while boosting durability, energy absorption and sliding performance. The streamlined shell isn’t just for aerodynamics. It also helps reduce friction and deflect forces in the event of an impact. Similarly, the visor is designed to detach from the helmet in an impact to prevent it from catching on anything. Underneath the shell, a multi-density EPS liner further guards against impacts, with unique EPS dimensions for each helmet size (XS-XXL). Patented Alpinestars technology is comprised of the helmet’s internal shape, a special EPS coating and a proprietary comfort-liner surface. This all reduces rotational acceleration transmitted to the rider’s head.

With 13 intake vents and seven exhaust ports, the Alpinestars S-M7 gives riders control over airflow for added comfort on the track or trail.

A significant feature of the S-M7 is Alpinestars PLASMA technology, which has been integrated into the lower side area of the helmet shell and side pads. This area of a helmet is associated with potential collarbone contact, and PLASMA Technology provides a high level of shock absorption.

The ways to customize the S-M7 don’t end there, though. The helmet comes with ear recesses that are ready to accommodate a communication system, making this helmet a great choice for riders who want to be connected while on the track or trail.

“Nucleon PLASMA is a soft, energy-absorbing material positioned along the lower chin bar to help reduce the risk of collarbone injury,” explains Alpinestars Sales Communications Manager Brent Jaswinski. “Plus, it adds a nice visual touch to the overall look of the helmet.”

Built-in channels on both sides of the helmet also allow easy integration with a hydration system, which is a must for extended riding or racing environments. The S-M7 is also designed to accommodate an Eject Removal System for emergency helmet removals.

In addition to protection, the S-M7 also takes rider comfort into consideration with a host of customizable options. The A-Head fitment system allows adjustment of the height and angle at which the helmet sits on the head. Inside, the cheek pads are customizable. They’re available in multiple thicknesses, so a rider can dial in the right fit for their preference.

“The S-M7 is a great choice for any off-road, MX or ADV rider looking for a lightweight, protective and feature-packed helmet,” Jaswinski says. “It’s especially convenient for riders who use comms on the trail, thanks to speaker-ready ear pockets and a recessed mount for the communication unit itself.” ■

With 13 intake vents and seven exhaust ports, a rider can adjust the amount of airflow coming into the helmet, too.

Into the Void

A Helmet Just for Youth Riders

M

any of us learned to ride motorcycles at a young age, and we remember wearing helmets that were either the smallest adult size available or a scaled-down helmet for kids with proportions that were just a bit off. Luckily for today’s youth riders, those are problems of the past. Moose Offroad’s Youth F.I. Void helmet is specifically sized for young riders, but it also has all the great features found in adult Moose helmets.

liner of the helmet. In an angled head impact, this design helps deflect energy because the low-friction layer slides relative to the head. The low-friction layer is able to move slightly in all directions, which reduces the rotational motion that is transmitted to the brain in an impact. By absorbing and deflecting some of that impact force, the MIPS BPS is designed to reduce the risk of brain injury. “The Adult F.I. 2.0 and Youth F.I. helmets offer many of the same protective technologies, including MIPS, multi-density EPS construction and excellent ventilation,” explains Jared Krueger, General Manager of Moose Offroad. “The primary difference is fit – the Youth F.I. is specifically scaled to provide younger riders with a more secure, proportionate and comfortable fit.” That proportionate fit is an important one, since how a helmet fits makes a significant difference in how well it guards a rider’s head. The Youth Void helmet begins with an injectionmolded polycarbonate shell, sized just right for kids. The visor is adjustable and removable, too.

Dealers can outfit young riders with the Moose Offroad Youth F.I. Void, which combines youth-specific proportions with MIPS Technology and multi-density EPS construction.

Moose Offroad gives young riders their own look with Youth F.I. Void graphics featuring brighter colors, bolder patterns and energetic designs.

One of the most notable points about the Youth Void helmet is that it’s equipped with MIPS® Technology. This innovative system is designed to reduce rotational motion in the case of an impact. The MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS) consists of a low-friction layer inserted between the shell and the

Inside, the moisture-wicking liner and cheek pads help pull sweat away from the face, and when things need a wash, they can be removed easily. Intake vents and exhaust ports further the internal climate control. The team at Moose didn’t just size the Youth Void helmet for younger riders. They also kept kids’ tastes in mind. The graphics are notably different than the ones offered on adult off-road helmets.

“We also consider different graphics for our youth helmets. Youth riders often prefer brighter colors, bolder patterns, and more energetic designs,” Krueger explains. “This also allows younger riders to have their own identity instead of simply wearing a scaled-down version of our adult helmets.” ■

Durable Accessories for ATVs and UTVs

F

or ATV and UTV riders, there’s still plenty of time to hit the trails or get work done before winter sets in. And, even after things get cold, there are plenty of riding opportunities, even if that means getting out and plowing snow. Moose Offroad makes sure ATVs and UTVs have the right accessories for the ride, with options like storage boxes and mirrors. “Moose Offroad knows that, for some riders, the hard work of the year is just getting started,” says Jared Krueger, General Manager of Moose Offroad. “Not only do we have a wide range of options to help riders customize their vehicle for the job at hand, but we also have fitments for virtually every model.” The Moose Offroad rear cargo box for Can-Am Outlander, Renegade and X3 vehicles is an extremely rugged storage option, ideal for keeping the contents inside safe and sound. The heavy-duty injection-molded PE cargo box is weather-sealed, making it a confident choice in all types of weather. Dustproof rubber gaskets and full-perimeter rubber weather seals make sure water and silt stay out. With an 8-gallon (30L) storage capacity, there’s plenty of space for items that need to come along for the ride. From “just in case” items like tire inflators and tow straps to a change of clothes, everything fits easily inside. The rear cargo box is designed to mount using factory holes, so adding more storage is quick and easy.

Built for Can-Am Outlander, Renegade and X3 vehicles, Moose Offroad’s rear cargo box combines rugged PE construction with weather seals to protect trail essentials.

Can-Am X3 riders can also mount a set of Moose Offroad adjustable side mirrors. Like the cargo box, the mirrors were designed to use the stock holes. The bolt holes line up perfectly with the stock mounting holes, and everything needed for installation is included in the package. Once they’re in place, the mirrors can be adjusted to give the driver a perfect view of what’s behind. UTVs can take a beating as they traverse narrow trails or put in hard work, and the mirrors have to be just as durable. The high-impact PP shell and durable ABS clamps mean the mirrors are up to the task. And, just in case, the mirrors also have a breakaway design. Storage solutions and side mirrors are just a small part of all the parts and accessories Moose Offroad has in stock for ATVs and UTVs. Whether it’s work or play, riding along
