The Parkinson’s Perspective

Empowering Individuals & Families since 1980!

“What am I missing that I need to know more about?”

This question comes up frequently in our helpline calls and at support groups, and we completely understand why. The landscape of information there is to learn about Parkinson’s can be overwhelming, especially with so much available online. If you’ve had conversations with other people who have been impacted by Parkinson’s, you already know how unique each person’s experience is. There is no single roadmap of what living with Parkinson’s might look like, which can be frustrating for anyone trying to invest their time and energy in the best direction for the greatest impact. Learning about Parkinson’s isn’t just about understanding how symptoms are managed, but also building skills while learning how to cope, adapt and thrive - in ways big and small. Sometimes the topics that don’t feel relevant yet are the very ones that help nurture confidence and a sense of preparedness for a future that still holds joy and meaning, no matter what challenges arise. Each year brings new hope with scientific discoveries and innovative new treatment options so building a strong foundation of understanding Parkinson’s wherever you’re at in the journey so that you can navigate ever-evolving landscape with more clarity and confidence.

At PRO, we create space for all who are impacted by Parkinson’s to connect and explore. We help people find what

works for them according to the latest evidence-based guidance as well as real life experiences shared by others. We were thrilled to see over 200 people join us at our Empower Portland and Empower Bend events this last April! With the help of our expert presenters, generous sponsors, and many amazing volunteers and community partners, we set out to not only educate but inspire and empower. For an entire afternoon we learned, moved, and laughed together. To everyone who took the time to join us or support these endeavors, we thank you!

Our team is eager to keep the momentum going with our third Empower event, Empower Eugene, which will have just concluded by the time this newsletter hits mailboxes.

There are plenty more opportunities coming up this summer to empower

yourself with education and strengthen your connections within the community in whatever ways work best for you! Check out our calendar of upcoming activities on page 4. Consider attending or starting a support group where you live. Call our helpline if you have questions or just need to feel heard by someone who understands. Join us at our Sole Support for Parkinson's walks to raise awareness and help others find hope and empowerment.

Living with Parkinson’s is a journey without a map but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Every step you take to learn, connect, and engage builds confidence and community. And every time you show up for yourself or for someone else - you help create a future where people impacted by Parkinson’s feel supported, informed, and empowered. We’re here to walk alongside you, and we can’t wait to see you soon!
