Spring in our parks— and summer, when so many memories are made.
Dear Patrons,
From playing in neighborhood parks and cooling off in our pools to enjoying a movie under the stars, these seasons offer countless opportunities to connect, explore, and enjoy all that our Park District provides.
I am continually inspired by exciting additions and enhancements taking shape across the District—from parks and playgrounds to facilities and programs. These truly reflect our mission of enriching lives by bringing meaningful experiences through programs, parks and facilities, and I’m proud to support them as Board President.
Across our parks, programs, and facilities, it is clear to see how intentionally the Park District serves our community — welcoming residents of all ages, abilities, and interests. Our core values are evident throughout, from accessible spaces and multigenerational amenities to programming designed to serve the needs and desires of our residents.
Our newest facility, Field Center, reflects the Park District’s commitment to Sustainability. Its innovative and energy-conscious design will serve the community responsibly for years to come. Complementing the facility is a new playground and splashpad, designed with input from our youth, to create inviting spaces for play and connection.

Regular Park Board Meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month and the Committee of the Whole (COW) Meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of the month. All meetings are held at 7:00P at the John L. Hedges Administrative Center, 218 Madison Street, Oak Park. Public comment is welcome at these meetings. There is no COW meeting in July and August.
Community Engagement is reflected in the renovation of Longfellow Park where the addition of dedicated pickleball courts, an exciting tower slide, and sensory garden offering a peaceful place to enjoy nature, were all incorporated based on feedback received during master plan community meetings.
The new Rehm pool amenities, including a lily pad crossing, waterslides, and current pool, reflect our commitment to Inclusivity by offering experiences for a wide range of ages and abilities. Likewise, the newly renovated Andersen Park with its discovery area, fitness equipment, accessible walkway, and welcoming new entrance highlights this same focus. These spaces exemplify the Park District’s dedication to inclusive, multigenerational recreation.

I also want to point out the breadth and depth of our programming which reflect current trends and community interests while serving residents from early childhood to older adulthood. I’ve been delighted to see the growth of our Adult Leisure and Lifestyle programs. Set within our beautiful historic properties, these experiences—from cooking to dancing to theatre and music performances—offer meaningful, social, and unexpected ways for adults to connect and recharge.
I hope you enjoy all that the Park District brings to you this spring and summer. Whether you are trying something new or returning to a favorite tradition, we look forward to being part of the
I look forward to seeing you in the parks!

The Andersen Park renovation is complete and open for play! The updated park features new playground elements, outdoor fitness equipment, an expanded splashpad, a shaded picnic area, improved accessibility, and a new park entrance on the north side of the park.
Join us for a Grand Reopening on Saturday, May 23 at 10:00A.
Rehm Activity Pool
515 Garfield St, Oak Park
The Rehm Activity Pool is complete and ready for the 2026 pool season! The renovation addressed major structural concerns and the area now features two large waterslides, a current channel, and a lily pad crossing.

Construction of the new Field Center is officially underway. The facility will be made of rammed earth, an ancient construction technique that uses compacted layers of earth which result in an ecofriendly, soundproof, and energy-efficient building. Once completed, the updated facility will allow us to expand our Clubhouse Afterschool program and provide more space for performing arts programs.
Construction is estimated to be complete this summer.

pool referendum FAQs
Park District of Oak Park Referendum
March 17,
2026
What the Referendum Means to You
On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, you will have the opportunity to vote on the Park District of Oak Park bond referendum. If approved, the issuance of 20-year general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $40 million would raise revenue to build and equip an indoor aquatics facility addition, replacing the existing outdoor pool at the Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex (RCRC). In the 2019 and 2023 quantitative community surveys, residents consistently indicated strong interest in expanding to year-round aquatic options for swim lessons, fitness programs, therapeutic water use, and indoor recreation space during colder months. Residents echoed this desire during the Park District’s 2025-2029 Comprehensive & Strategic Master Plan development.

What is proposed for the indoor aquatics facility?
According to the 2025 concept study, the proposed facility would include:
• A 25-yard pool (6–8 lanes) for lap swimming and swim instruction
• A warm-water pool for therapy, fitness and swim instruction, and recreational swimming
• An indoor splash pad with small and large slide features
• New locker room areas
• Updated lobby and user access
• Birthday room and/or program space addition
Where will the new facility be located?
The proposed indoor aquatics facility would be added to the Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex (RCRC) site at 415 Lake Street in Oak Park. The outdoor pool will be closed, and the land will be used for the addition.
What is the cost and will my taxes increase if the referendum is approved?

The estimated cost of the project is $40 million. The funding would come from the issuance of 20-year general obligation bonds, which requires voter approval through a ballot measure. If voters approve the bond request, the tax increase will be approximately $13.36/month ($160.30/year) on a house valued at $430,000. Visit pdop.org/indoor-pool to see the impact on your property bill.
What
happens if the referendum is not approved?
Without funding from the referendum, the proposed project will not move forward and the Park District will continue maintaining both outdoor pools.
What
will the actual ballot question say?
You will see the following question on the March 17, 2026, general primary ballot: “Shall the Park District of Oak Park, Cook County, Illinois, build and equip an indoor aquatics facility and issue its bonds to the amount of $40,000,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?”
Need more information about the referendum, project details and information sessions, visit pdop.org/indoor-pool, email referendum@pdop.org or scan this QR code.
Who will benef it from this facility?
The proposed facility is designed to serve:
Children and families
• Swim lessons
• Play features
Teens and adult swimmers
• Lap lanes
Seniors
• Social and recreational activities
People with mobility or rehabilitation needs
• Therapy pool
• Accessible features

It is important to note the plan prioritizes accessibility for all ages and abilities, and the reuse of existing infrastructure where feasible. Residents will be included in the process as final designs are determined.

Owned & operated by the Park District of Oak Park
Pleasant Home is located in Oak Park’s historic Mills Park and considered one of the earliest and most distinguished examples of Prairie School Architecture in the nation.
Pleasant Home was built in 1897 for John W. Farson and tailored to fit the Farson family’s lifestyle. The 30-room, architectural gem is a showcase of 19th-century craftsmanship and artistry, with rich custom woodwork throughout the location, extraordinary art glass windows, a massive fireplace, intricate woodcarvings, and tile work.
Farson filled the grounds with gardens, fountains, and open-air porches. He welcomed community groups onto the lawn, hosted garden parties, and turned his home into a vibrant gathering place for neighbors.

Knitting/Crochet/Needlecrafts
This class typically has a relaxed, cozy atmosphere, perfect for unwinding while learning new techniques. Enjoy a well-lit room, which is often accompanied by a fun conversation. Tables are arranged with various materials—threads, yarns, needles, embroidery hoops, fabric, and patterns—neatly organized for easy access.
Painting and More!
Join a group of creativity-seeking individuals in a light-filled studio for a morning of painting, learning new skills, or working on a piece in progress. Participants can bring their supplies or, for novices finding their medium, we have a variety of materials to explore during class. Individual attention is provided, but in a group setting. All skill levels are welcome!

All classes are FREE for unless otherwise specified. Please check Amilia for registration requirements.

Quilting
Start from scratch or bring a project you started but would like support to finish. Learn to cut fabric with the rotary cutter, learn how to sew on a sewing machine, make the quilt sandwich, and/or do the top quilting and binding. Or maybe you already know how to quilt but enjoy the company and lots of space to work? Either way, join us! All fabric and thread are provided.
Sewing with Help
Do you have a project you are working on and need help and guidance? Bring your project from home and get the advice you need. Sewing machines are available for use. This is not a pattern-making class, but pick one out with the instructor’s help.
Intermediate & Advanced Stained Glass and Weaving
Continue your stained glass & weaving craft. Participants must have previous loom and stainedglass experience, and projects must be completed within the registered time. All rooms are cleared of materials before the beginning of a new session unless other arrangements are made. Students may wish to purchase their own materials. This class is session-based with four offerings a year.

Nature Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten
Supervisor: Pilar Martinez
Welcome to our Early Childhood/Preschool section — thoughtfully designed for our youngest community members and their families . To help busy caregivers quickly find what they need (and maybe discover something new), we’ve organized our offerings into six easy-to-navigate categories: Enrichment (with and without caregivers), Sports, Gymnastics, Dance, Swim School, and Learn to Skate .

2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR: Nature Preschool and Pre-K
Age-appropriate PLAY and a nurturing environment provide young children with opportunities to develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively through hands-on exploration, experimentation, and socialization. Teacher-directed activities and center-time play engage your child in literacy, math, science, art, and motor activities while creating an experience focused on 21st-century problem-solving and flexible thinking habits. The Park District follows the School District 97 calendar. If the program is full, please sign up for the waitlist free of charge. For questions, contact Pilar Martinez, Program Supervisor at (708) 725-3135 or email Pilar.Martinez@pdop.org.
3 & 4 YEAR OLDS
Nature Preschool
Nature is an amazing teacher when children engage in hands-on activities both inside and out. Multi-sensory, nature-based play experiences are the vehicle for individualized learning, problem-solving, and concept integration. Low teacher/child ratios promote social, emotional, and academic readiness.
4 YEAR OLDS
Pre-Kindergarten
Teachers skillfully create child-specific, hands-on experiences that provide writing, math, and reading readiness skills. Social and academic opportunities are provided through independent, small, and large group work. Social skills, innovation, and problemsolving habits are fostered in a collaborative class culture, creating a strong foundation in learning.
What Parents are saying about our Preschool programs:
I love that it's a program rooted in our community and park district. It's diverse and accessible for all.
I think you offer a high-value, play-based preschool (my older daughter participated in preschool at Carroll Center for two years) at a very reasonable price.
I enjoy the mixture of outdoors and indoor play.

*$100 non-refundable administration fee is due at the time of registration. If program is full, you may sign up for our waitlist free of charge.

HOCKEY ADM FUNdamentals
Aligned with USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM), Hockey Academy uses an athlete-centered approach that aims to help individuals realize their athletic potential and utilize sport as a path toward an active and healthy lifestyle. In the ADM FUNdamentals stage, children develop fundamental movement skills, general athleticism, and begin to learn and acquire basic hockey skating and stick skills. This is done through multi-stations, which focus on puck handling, shooting, Hockey IQ, minigames, and skating. Our goal is to help children develop the skills to prepare them to join the Ice Bears travel team, and support their love of the game.
How do I get started playing hockey?
If your child has never skated before, it is required that they pass Learn to Skate 1 & 2 before progressing to our hockey classes. All new participants should choose their hockey class based on their age group.
The Ice Cubs class (in Early Childhood section) is for ages 4-6 and Hockey 101 & 201 is for ages 6-13. Players 14+ should register for Adult Hockey classes. We have a unique Women’s & Girl’s Beginner class and co-ed Adult classes. Do you have previous hockey experience? Email hockey@pdop.org for participant-specific class recommendations.
No gear? No problem.
Due to the competitive nature in ice hockey, full gear is required for all levels, including helmet with face mask, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey socks, and skates.
We host a Hockey Information & Equipment Fitting Day at the start of each session where enrolled participants can rent equipment for free! Free skate rentals are included in all classes!

SWIMMING PROGRAM CURRICULUM
The swimming curriculum is for students ages 6 months to adult.
Classes are separated by ages and stages. There are five swimming stages based on core swimming competencies.
Benchmarks are established at each stage in the program that combines swimming and safety skills and are a barometer for which stage a swimmer is in.
Sign up based on your swimmer’s age and our swim coaches will identify what stage of learning they are in and place them in the appropriate class.
Note: All Fall, Winter and Spring swimming sessions may be subject to change based on facility availability.
How do I get started swimming?
All new participants should choose their swim class based on their age. New swimmers ages 3 months to 5 years can check out swim classes on page 50. Ages 6-13 years should register for Swim School, and ages 14+ should register for Adult Beginner. Coming into Swim Academy with previous experience? Contact us at swimacademy@pdop.org for participant-specific level recommendations.

Swim School (Ages 6-13)
Swim School is divided into five stages reflecting the five core competencies of functional swimming: trust and submersion, body position and air recovery, forward movement and direction change, rotary movement, and integrated movements. This course will develop a high comfort level in the water and teach functional swimming skills. Students will work within their skill groups to develop their skills using age-appropriate learning activities. Learning is selfpaced but challenging. Students register by age and are tested on their skills during the first day of class.

Carry In/Carry Out Program
We all understand the importance of caring for our environment so that we leave our planet better than we found it for future generations. Each one of us can make a difference. The same is true for our parks. Here is your opportunity to be a good park steward.
We are asking for your help and cooperation in keeping our parks clean and safe through our Carry In/Carry Out program. You simply need to carry out all waste and recyclables you bring into the park. Basically leave the park the way you found it. It’s that simple. Walking is a great way to get some exercise. The only equipment you need are your legs and walking shoes!
