45 YEARS

WITH BRAZILIAN TOURISM

New Brazilian government. The economy catching its breath. And Brazilians still want to travel every season. We like to visit our neighbors, to explore the United States and Europe and also to discover far-away destinations. The world opens up for Brazilians and we are willing to know what its best features are. Getting to know our market is a good start to a good and long commercial relationship. That is why PANROTAS Brazilian Overview once more presents the Travel Industry, with updated data, exclusive surveys and analysis and also statistics that help us plan those who already work with Brazil, besides helping those who want to start dealing with our market. After a severe crisis that involved some of our main institutions and affected our pockets, Brazil rises even stronger. We are the biggest power in Latin America and the key market for those who want to stand out in the region. And yes, we know how to handle crises, but we want them far from us in order to make the travelers’ flow constantly increasing: in Brazil (where we moved back to 100 million passengers in 2018) and abroad (once more there were more than 2 million Brazilians in the USA and more than one million in Italy and Argentina). Those who are still investing in the Brazilian market are obviously benefiting from this recovery. European

airlines were less conservative than the American ones and that is why in the beginning of 2019 we could see an increase in trips to Europe, with very competitive prices as new players arrived. There is an expectation of a recovery in trips to North America during the second semester, but more promotions and flights are needed in order to compensate for the rise of the US dollar. Nothing that we hadn’t seen before. Nothing that is not going to be solved with the help of the Brazilian Tourism Trade. Invest in Brazil. Guaranteed return. Invest in representativity and niches, in family trips, in options for solo travelers, in luxury, in grey power and in different and less explored activities: adventure, food tours and experiences, culture or even those ones with a technical approach. Brazil is a diverse country and so are its travelers. They are also curious for the most different products and destinations, with good cost benefit. Count on PANROTAS, and specially in 2019 when we are celebrating 45 years by your side and by the side of the main players of Brazilian Tourism.

SOCIETY

FAMILY IS AN ABSOLUTE VALUE FOR THE BRAZILIAN PEOPLE

78%

of Brazilians believe that the only possibility of being happy is by constituting a family.

4 in 10 households

are composed of nontraditional families and solo mothers. (The traditional ones are formed by couples with or without children) In the last 20 years the number of homes headed by women

doubled

and the women’s share of revenue was

33% and now is 40%.

Pag 10 a 13 - Infographics.indd 10

In the last 10 years, the revenue of the 25% richest people increased by 33% and of the 25% poorest by 82%. Brazil’s elite is heterogenous because it is the result of social changes from the last years and a more stable economy (without hyperinflation, for example) in spite of being still very volatile (many periods of crisis). It is not possible to classify Brazil’s classes only according to their revenue because their minds are also different. For example, two thirds of the Class AB do not have a higher education degree and only one third has already traveled abroad. The owner of the bakery and a specialist doctor belong to the same class but with very different consumer profiles. Source: Locomotiva Institute at Forum PANROTAS 2019

AIRLINES There are 8 Brazilian airlines and 41 foreign airlines operating in Brazil. Among the Brazilian companies, we highlight four that have achieved, individually, more than 1% of domestic market share (in terms of RPK), which together accounted for 99.5% of passengers in this segment. They are GOL, LATAM, Azul and Avianca Brazil. At the end of 2018, the Brazilian fleet of regular, domestic or international public air transport, reached a count of 635 aircrafts, a decrease of 1% from the numbers shown in the previous year. SĂŁo Paulo (Guarulhos and Viracopos/Campinas) accounts for 60% of international takeoffs. The 20 LARGEST BRAZILIAN AIRPORTS were responsible for 82% of domestic flights departures. Of these, seven are in the Southeast, four in the Northeast, three in the Midwest Region, four in the Southern Region and two in the North. The two airports with the highest number of takeoffs were Guarulhos and Congonhas, which together accounted for 24.4% of domestic flights landings. The US Carriers cut capacity in 2018 to Brazil, and European ones added more flights. As a result, prices are up to the US and very competitive to Europe.

Company: Ideas4brand Partners: Maria Camilla Alcorta and Marianna Alcorta Major executives: Maria Camilla Alcorta and Rene Castro, (oversees PR side)

We were founded in 2017, an integrated marketing agency specialized in developing communications strategies to attend international tourism companies needs of establish, increase and/or reinforce brand awareness and business in Brazil and key Latam markets. We are a young, innovative and creative company with more than 18 years of experiences and relationship with the tourism trade in Brazil. Our job is to build with each client a case of success, listen to their needs and suggest strategic actions to achieve their goals. ABOUT BRAZIL: This year the prospect is for growth: we have perceived a positive reaction and increased demand for travel since last year. Airlines are continuing to invest in larger aircraft, increasing frequency of flights, opening new hubs, and all this has generated greater competition and a larger offering of places to go, revitalizing all the segments of the tourism chain. Brazilian travelers from outside the Rio-São Paulo axis are enjoying better travel quality and gaining time because more and more airports are providing international flights. Specialist tourism is thriving: examples are luxury trips, overseas weddings, LGBTQ, wellness (focusing on spas and the third age), ecotourism, sustainable travel, adventure tourism and contentrich travel—which is increasingly popular among millennials, as well as with other generations. Passengers are increasingly seeking knowledgeable advisors, so that well-trained professionals and segment specialists will stand out in this new and important phase of Tourism.

ABOUT BRAZIL: Brazil - Travel and Tourism This is the best prospect industry sector in this country. While leisure dominates the tourism segment of the Brazilian market, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), Luxury and Bleisure (Business + Leisure travel) are growing sub-sectors. Although Brazil has deep internet penetration, travel agencies are still the most traditional channel of distribution. Online travel agencies (OTAs) are becoming more and more popular, especially among younger consumers. There are approximately 19,000 travel agencies in Brazil with ABAV as the main industry association comprised of approximately 3,000 associates throughout Brazil. Why should you invest in Brazil? Brazil is the 9th Global Economy, the largest in LATAM, representing 50% all of South America’s GDP. As well as other emerging markets offers many opportunities of growth. We count in around 19,000 travel agencies and doing business with Brazilians requires constant communication. A personal and customized approach makes all the difference to make the final decision.
