A NEW VIRTUOUS CYCLE FOR BRAZIL In the coming weeks and months new flights will be launched from Brazil to Miami, Boston, Orlando, Las Vegas, Lisbon, Tel Aviv, Rome, Paris and Amsterdam among other destinations, from airlines such as: Gol, Latam, Azul, Air France and KLM. In addition, other flights that were suspended have already been reactivated. According to a survey conducted by PANROTAS’ technical department there are now 1,349 weekly international flights operating throughout Brazil compared to 1,079 in 2017 (comparing March 2018 and March 2017). For the United States alone, weekly flights increased from 197 in 2017 to 264 in 2018. Besides São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, there are also cities in the Northeast of Brazil with new international flights, especially Recife (Azul’s hub in the area) and Fortaleza (chosen by Gol, Air France and KLM for frequencies to Europe and the United States). Gol’s return to the U.S. market is another sign that Brazil is back in business and the pent-up demand for international travel is eager to explore new and old destinations. Brazil’s GDP growth forecasts to be between 2% and 3% this year, but there are several economists talking about a more than 4% growth. Why? Because Brazil is a huge and strong country, very powerful in agribusiness, in the automotive industry, in tourism and several other segments; and also because entrepreneurs have detached themselves from politics and are supporting anti-corruption laws and operations in order to stop deviations of funds from the official budgets. With a more professional and transparent environment, businesses are thriving again and the tourism industry is one that has most
benefited. International flights have rebounded faster than domestic flights due to the desire of higher income Brazilian’s for international travel. But the domestic flow, with consecutive months of growth, is already more and more vibrant Brazil is set for general elections this year, including for president. The tendency is to elect a winner that will give continuity to the established economic policies. Another virtuous period is coming for our country and its economy. If and when the next crisis occurs, it will find a stronger nation, and it will certainly have a much smaller impact. Latin America in general is living through a good moment as it far as travel is concerned. As the wave of growth for international travel will not diminish any time soon, it needs only to take advantage and improve on the international and intraregional inbound opportunities. That is why, once more, the Brazilian Overview, which PANROTAS has been producing since the 1980s, is a useful and indispensable tool for those who want to do business with Brazil. Are you in? So, count on PANROTAS to assist you in reaching your goals in Brazil!

10 TOURISM TRENDS IN BRAZIL Edelman and PANROTAS launched in 2017 an exclusive research on Latin American Travel Trend (see your exclusive copy with this edition of Brazilian Overview). With that in mind and with all the knowledge we have on Brazilian travel expenditures, be prepared to offer in your portfolio:
1 – Luxury travel options that go beyond ostentation, but that include comfort, privacy
and exclusive experiences;
2 – MICE segment; 3 – More theme parks and adventures for the family. Keep in mind the multi-
generational trips
4 – More contact with nature, especially natural parks, mountain resorts and different
scenarios, as Brazil is very know for its beautiful beaches;
5 – Sports: both to practice (surf, golf, tennis, soccer, ski etc) or watch (NBA games,
American football, rugby, tennis, soccer, ultimate fighting/MMA, boxing, F1, Nascar etc)
6 – Nightlife and fine dining; 7 – Shopping (especially clothes, electronics, jewelry, new gadgets and specialty stores); 8 – Options for the mature travelers. Everybody has an eye on Millennials, but Brazilian
population is getting older and eager to travel;
9
– A new generation of small and tailor-made travel agents is very active in Brazil and they need your support with face-to-face, events, constant presence in Brazil, digital communication and lots of training;
10
– Options from budget trips to very exclusive ones. Brazilians do tend to be very careful with price but they will pay the right amount for different and unique experiences they can share in their social media platforms. Facebook and Instagram are the mais ones, with the latter used by the upper class especially.

The segment is becoming much more professional and gaining maturity as Brazil’s deep crisis eases. We are also seeing lots of people actually getting involved in order to innovate and create new business opportunities for the industry. Additionally, Brazilians themselves are increasingly curious and engaged, and they are turning into great travelers in our beautiful world.

ABOUT BRAZIL This year the prospect is for growth: we have perceived a positive reaction and increased demand for travel since last year. Airlines are continuing to invest in larger aircraft, increasing frequency of flights, opening new hubs, and all this has generated greater competition and a larger offering of places to go, revitalizing all the segments of the tourism chain. Brazilian travelers from outside the Rio-São Paulo axis are enjoying better travel quality and gaining time because more and more airports are providing international flights. Specialist tourism is thriving: examples are luxury trips, overseas weddings, LGBTQ, wellness (focusing on spas and the third age), ecotourism, sustainable travel, adventure tourism and content-rich travel—which is increasingly popular among millennials, as well as with other generations. Passengers are increasingly seeking knowledgeable advisors, so that well-trained professionals and segment specialists will stand out in this new and important phase of Tourism.

INTERAMERICAN NETWORK Interamerican Network was founded in 1986 to meet the needs of international companies in positioning their brands and increasing their market share in Brazil. More than 30 years later, the company is welllocated throughout South America, in addition to its headquarters in Brazil and its office in Argentina. It remains dedicated to Tourism, and is a market leader as a “specialist” in providing solutions for destinations, airlines, hotel chains, airports, purchasing centers, theme parks, trade fairs, congresses and other tourist products. The company’s view is that the management of tourist brands goes far beyond Tourism itself—which is merely the tip of the iceberg—and involves innovation, creativity and integrated strategies.

ABOUT BRAZIL The last two years have been difficult ones for Tourism in Brazil. The country has, however, just begun to overcome political instability, an economic crisis and investor insecurity. Our international clients have seen a return of Brazilian travelers, and this has been reflected in greater confidence, while Brazilians themselves have demonstrated a step change in their traveling habits. Frequent travelers are seeking new destinations and new experiences. They may have been to New York five times, but a yoga class on a rooftop is a wholly new way of experiencing the city. Aspirationally, the Middle East involves a new gaze: I believe we are still going to hear a lot about Lebanon and Iran. Sports-themed journeys are also a major trend in numerous fields: incentive tourism, or for couples taking in the US Open, or parents and children going to watch the UEFA finals. There are music festivals like Tomorrowland in Belgium, Burning Man in Nevada, Opera Festivals in the Arena di Verona, Coachela in California, or even Rock in Rio: novelties in Brazilians’ traveling habits. Bleisure is also winning over many fans, with executives taking the opportunity to relax a little and enjoy their destinations. As to experience, bike tours around Europe are popular right now and are attracting more and more fans: they are another way to return to the same destination under a new guise. The Caribbean is more sophisticated, however: the leading trend is to stay in private villas because of the enhanced privacy they offer. These days, luxury is not just about what money can buy but is also an experience that the trip can offer someone. Outstanding case studies: 1. Las Vegas Culinary Exchange (“Intercâmbio Gastronômico”) with Bel Coelho 2 Vic and Cami Dubai Project 3. Australia in TV Globo’s Totalmente Demais telenovela 4. Launch of Emirates operations in São Paulo and maiden flight of Airbus A380 in South America for Emirates
6. Broadway Visit Brazil 7. Digital Influencers Project for Simon Shopping Destinations with Monica Salgado and Maria Eugenia 8. South American Advertising Campaign and Digital Marketing entitled “O Melhor do Caribe” (Best of the Caribbean) for St. Maarten and Anguilla St Maarten e Anguilla

BUILDING BRAZILIAN TOURISM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE INDUSTRY Founded in 1974 as a technical information provider to travel agents, PANROTAS grew side by side with the Travel and Tourism industry and now works for it comprehensively, with market intelligence and customized solutions. In 2017, we launched a new portal, a new weekly magazine and new products and tools such as Next Voices, our Training Central, Live transmissions via social media, webTV programs and new events, such as LGBTRAVEL Experience, in partnership with Braztoa. “Technology, over time, is increasingly changing the way of selling and buying trips. And in these 44 years of existence, we never lost our main mission as media vehicle, which is to provide the reader with more relevant content, in the most modern channels and in the shortest time possible”, says Guillermo Alcorta, PANROTAS president. “It is important to remember that PANROTAS as a journalistic company, must be ahead of the content and advertising trends, and offer the most modern in communication solution, and we always innovate in formats and strategies to deliver the customer message more effectively” adds Zé Guilherme.

OUR PARTNERSHIPS Ladevi, an Argentinian publisher based in Buenos Aires and with office all over Latin America, is one of the oldest and most solid partners of PANROTAS. “We are more and more aligned to produce content to travel agents and Tourism professionals in Latin America. We produce and distribute in Brazil and they do that in their region, and it has been a great exchange”, explains PANROTAS CEO, José Guilherme Alcorta. This partnership is extended to the United States, where

the well-known Adrian Bertini is part of the sales team of Ladevi and PANROTAS, working with American customers that was to have a more accurate and customized promotion in Brazil and Latin America. Adrian is working with Helene Chalvire, Miami executive, and is also part of the projects we have with Ladevi. With the expertise of the Latin view, something that the United States customers look for, we add intelligence when it comes to customize projects to foreign brands.
