Panaga School Biweekly Issue 178 (7_11_2025)

Page 1

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has been another typically busy and exciting couple of weeks since returning from the half-term break!Across the school, learning has been rich and varied — from exploring the world around us and studying volcanoes to creating 3D Mars rovers, learning about Fair Trade, and making puppets.Aspecial highlight has been seeing ourYear 6 students share their knowledge, skills, and understanding with our Reception children through activities focused on space and the solar system — a wonderful example of collaboration and leadership in action.

We’ve also had FOBISIA trials for the Primary Games and chess competitions taking place. Congratulations to all the children who took part — your effort, commitment, and enthusiasm make us very proud.

Tomorrow, we will be supporting a beach clean event — a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate care for our environment and community (details on the poster towards the end of this edition). Next week promises to be equally engaging, as we celebrate both World Nursery Rhyme Week and Anti-Bullying Week. We’re looking forward to seeing lots of odd socks on Monday as a fun reminder to celebrate individuality and kindness!

Next week isAnti-Bullying week and there are a range of activities planned for all age groups. We are kicking off the week with an 'Odd Socks' day on Monday to celebrate differences and individuality. We also have football and netball fixtures next week, and we wish the very best of luck to all the children representing Panaga School.

Finally, you will all receive an email next week asking you to create your account for the Parent Portal. It is very important that you do this as all end of term reports will be published through this platform. You will no longer receive an emailed copy. The reason for this change is to try and use the systems we have in place to streamline the process and reduce the administrative tasks required. The portal will also allow you to view other things such as your child's attendance and house points.

Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing weekend.

Best Wishes, Brian, SLTand all of our staff.

Puppets make speaking less scary (it’s the puppet talking, not you!), encourage creativity, and add a bit of comedy to the classroom. After all, it’s much easier to say “Bonjour, je m’appelle Bob!” when Bob has googly eyes and a funky hat.

How GreenAreYou?

As part of their geography unit about rainforests, theYear 8 children have been conducting research into the shopping patterns of local residents and the sustainability of their behaviour. 42 members of the local community were interviewed by the pupils and the following data were collected:

- 95% of respondents take reusable shopping bags to the supermarket.

- 38% of the interviewees try to avoid buying palm oil products.

- 80% of local residents are prepared to pay more for eco-friendly products.

- Only 30% of the adults in the survey compost waste food.

- 83% of those surveyed reported that they eat meat.

- 20% of respondents buy clothes from charity shops.

- 38% of the interviewees do not know any of the United Nations’sustainable development goals whilst 15% know all 17 goals.

TheYear 8 students spent time analysing the data and thought of some recommendations for the future. Here are some of the children’s suggestions:

- Look at labels carefully and try to buy more palm-oil free products.

- Learn how to compost waste food.

- Reduce meat consumption.

- Buy more locally-grown fruit and vegetables.

- Try to reuse, reduce and recycle more.

TheYear 8 children hope everyone in our local community can try harder to have a more sustainable lifestyle so that our rainforests can be enjoyed by future generations.

LookingAhead: Jerudong International

School Teachers

VisitYear 8

We were delighted to recently welcome teachers from Jerudong International School (JIS) to our campus for a special presentation. The event was organised specifically for our Year 8 students and their families, providing a valuable glimpse into the transition toYear 9 at JIS.

As our Year 8s begin to plan for their next big academic step, this visit was perfectly timed. The JIS team delivered an engaging and informative talk, walking our students and parents through what to expect when they join the secondary school.

The presentation covered the academic curriculum, the wide range of co-curricular activities on offer, and the supportive pastoral care system in place to help new students settle in.

A key highlight for many families was the discussion about the differences between our school and the JIS environment. The team gave fantastic insight into the daily life of aYear 9 student, from new routines and responsibilities to the opportunities that come with being part of a larger, diverse student body.

It was particularly interesting to learn more about boarding life. For students considering this option, the JIS teachers provided a clear picture of the supportive community, the structure of the boarding houses, and the balance between study and social time. This helped to demystify the experience and answered many excellent questions from both parents and students.

Choosing a path for secondary education is a significant milestone, and sessions like this are invaluable. We extend a huge thank you to the visiting staff from Jerudong International School for taking the time to speak with our community. Our Year 8s are now much better equipped with the information they need to make a confident and excited transition to Year 9. Many are looking forward to the open day coming up this month.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, and Students,
