I’m delighted to introduce something very special in this edition of our Founders magazine: Panache Expeditions. An exciting new concept from Panache Cruises, created to bring you even closer to the most extraordinary corners of our planet.
Expedition cruising is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing areas of our industry. Purpose-built ships, state-of-the-art technology, world-class expedition teams and increasingly luxurious surroundings mean you truly can explore the edge of the map without sacrificing comfort. It’s an area of cruising that is very much up and coming –and it’s only getting better.
More and more travellers are seeking experiences that go beyond a classic cruise. Expedition cruises combine immersive exploration, remote destinations and wildlife encounters, and at Panache Expeditions, we partner with cruise lines who provide all of that adventure without compromising on luxury.
I’ve been fortunate enough to experience expedition cruising personally, but on a ‘soft’ scalebasically experiencing expedition ships and slightly more adventurous itineraries (for example to Alaska)
without taking the plunge into the polar regions.
That all changes this year as I embark on an epic journey crossing the Arctic Circle aboard Scenic Eclipse this summer and a really exciting exploration of the Galapagos Islands later this year with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions. I love my luxury cruises and I can honestly say I’ve never been more excited about what lies ahead.
Panache Expeditions brings together our expertise, our trusted partnerships and our passion for exceptional service. This brochure will not only show you how we’re evolving with the industry, but will give you insight into places and experiences you might not have previously thought about. We share our own firsthand experiences on some incredible voyages around the world and show you why we love this up-and-coming style of travel.
I truly hope you enjoy reading it.

POLAR
Polar expeditions represent the peak of adventure travel, offering journeys into some of the most remote and extreme environments on Earth: Antarctica and the Arctic.
Whether exploring the vast icy peninsula of Antarctica or navigating the dramatic fjords of Svalbard, these voyages immerse travellers in raw wilderness defined by towering glaciers, drifting icebergs and extraordinary wildlife.
One thing is for sure; expedition cruises to the poles are not for the faint
hearted. It’s not your regular cruise holiday that’s for sure! Conditions in the polar regions are unpredictable and often challenging, with sub-zero temperatures, shifting weather patterns and sometimes choppy seas.
However, it is precisely this sense of rugged and raw adventure that defines a polar expedition. Keen travellers will have opportunities to see breaching whales, huge penguin colonies, glaciers calving into the ocean and (if they’re lucky) polar bears roaming Arctic coastlines.
Polar expeditions are typically led by expert teams of naturalists, scientists and expedition leaders who interpret the landscape, wildlife and history of early explorers. Activities include Zodiac tours, guided hikes, photography sessions, kayaking, polar plunges (for the brave!) and visits to historic research stations.
A polar expedition is not simply a trip but an opportunity to step far beyond your comfort zone and explore the most incredible and remote destinations on the planet.
Warm water
Warm water expeditions offer the spirit of exploration alongside more favourable conditions. Often described as ‘soft’ expeditions, these voyages combine immersive discovery with more amiable climates in less extreme destinations than the poles, making them ideal for travellers seeking adventure without committing to the more rugged and remote polar regions.
They’re a fantastic gateway to the world of expedition cruising and appeal to a wider range of travellers, often those who haven’t experienced an expedition
before and want to ease themselves in gently. On a warm water expedition, travellers can expect to visit places like French Polynesia, the Kimberley, Seychelles, the Caribbean and Central America, and even as close to home as the Mediterranean!
What retains the ‘expedition’ element of these voyages is the level of in-depth exploration involved. Much like polar voyages, guests will have opportunities to enjoy Zodiac tours, guided hikes, cultural encounters with local communities and more.
Wildlife encounters will be slightly different - think turtles, reef sharks and tropical birds rather than penguins and polar bears! Plus more opportunities are available to take part in water-based activities such as paddleboarding, snorkelling and scuba diving.
We’re here to help you discover expedition cruising. What - or where - will it be?
Antarctica Arctic
The land of extremes, Antarctica is where endless ice, jagged mountains and crystal-clear waters create a landscape unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Capture the breathtaking beauty of the region and step onto pristine shores, glide through sparkling channels dotted with majestic icebergs in a Zodiac, or trek across vast frozen landscapes. Get up close with fascinating wildlife and watch penguins waddle playfully across the ice, seals resting peacefully and whales break the icy surface next to the ship.
Each day reveals a new wonder, exploring this untouched continent by cruise lets you experience its raw, unspoiled grandeur from unique viewing points, creating memories that stay with you forever.
Exploring Antarctica is an extraordinary journey that belongs on every bucket list.
The Arctic is a place that feels both powerful and peaceful, where vast landscapes and quiet moments stay with you long after you leave. Exploring this remote region on a luxury expedition cruise offers a frontrow seat to its ever-changing scenery, from towering glaciers and drifting icebergs to wide-open seas glowing under the midnight sun.
Daily excursions bring the Arctic to life, whether you’re stepping ashore to discover untouched corners of the world, gliding by Zodiac through icy channels, or kayaking alongside sculpted ice. Wildlife encounters are unforgettable and often unexpectedly close, with polar bears roaming the shoreline, whales surfacing beside the ship and seabirds filling the sky.
Travelling this inspiring region by cruise allows you to reach places few ever see, all while enjoying comfort, expert guidance and breathtaking views. It’s a magical way to experience one of the world’s last great wildernesses.
Galápagos Kimberley
An expedition cruise through the Galápagos feels less like a holiday and more like stepping into a living classroom, one alive with wildlife, nature and history. Adventure begins the moment you step aboard. With expert guides on hand, immersive lectures introduce you to this extraordinary environment and deepen your understanding of the journey unfolding ahead. You’re given the rare chance to observe unique wildlife up close: blue-footed boobies nesting just feet away, sea lions gliding past as you snorkel and vast lava fields stretching beneath an unforgiving sun. Trekking across each island being guided by experienced naturalists who bring the landscape to life and help you truly appreciate this awe-inspiring destination.
The pace is deliberate and designed for maximum adventure. Days are filled with hiking, kayaking or exploring by Zodiac and diving into clear waters for unforgettable snorkelling excursions.
Defined by towering sandstone cliffs, deep gorges, majestic waterfalls and rugged landscapes, the Kimberley is one of the ultimate expedition cruise destinations.
Journey through this remote region and lose yourself in the vast emptiness of the savannah, shaped by shifting tides and dominated by the thunder of the King George Falls pouring into the calm secluded shoreline.
Expect to explore by small boat through winding waterways, hike along rugged trails that reveal hidden rock art and watch the sun set in a way you’ve never seen before. Wildlife reveals itself in brief and enchanting moments - crocodiles gliding silently through the water, eccentric species of birds calling across spectacular cliffs and wallabies pacing in the distant. The Kimberley region awakens the senses at every turn whilst each experience plays a part in a story you’ll carry forever.
Canada Alaska
Whilst Canada may not be the first place you consider when you think ‘expedition cruise’, any traveller worth their salt would do well to add it to their must-visit list. Framed by limestone cliffs, sweeping national parks, fjords, mountains and clusters of indigenous settlements, this vast Arctic gateway truly offers the best of all worlds.
Indeed, this frozen paradise is home to a thriving animal kingdom where opportunities for up-close wildlife encounters are innumerable. Land excursions carve a path through the domain of Arctic foxes, caribou and polar bears, whilst you’ll have beluga whales, narwhals, auklets and kittiwakes as constant companions sailing the ink-black Canadian waters.
Yet, so much of this region’s wealth lies in its communities, in sheltered fishing villages studding the landscape, in the famously warm Canadian hospitality. Here, you will be welcomed with open arms and taken on a journey through the folklore, cuisine and traditions at the beating heart of the land. From echoes of Franklin’s lost expedition to Viking ruins and abandoned WWII defences sitting side by side, history runs through the very veins of Canada.
Undiscovered treasures abound in Alaska, a land so vast, rugged and riddled with natural beauty that it’s hard to believe it really exists in tandem with the modern world.
A land frozen in time, Alaska’s heritage is firmly rooted in a complex tapestry of indigenous culture, with Sitka’s totem poles and the famed Petroglyph Beach at Wrangell remaining popular activities.
Yet Alaska’s pièce de résistance lies in its network of national parks, mirror-like fjords and soaring opalite glaciers all framed by clear skies and a chain of secluded inlets and coves. As tightly woven into the land as its topography is of course Alaska’s wildlife. From the screech of a bald eagle swooping overhead and the splash of orcas below to lumbering bears on the hunt for their catch of the day, you’ll struggle to know where to point your camera!
With storied history and awe-inspiring natural wonder in equal measure, little imagination is required to conjure visions of the Ice Age, in a land that must be seen to be believed.
Tropics Europe
A tropical climate, endless sun-drenched days spent traversing jewel-like archipelagos and cerulean seas…is there a better backdrop than the tropics for once-in-a-lifetime exploration? We don’t think so. Yet, to lump these slices of paradise together is to do them a disservice. From the lush rainforest-swathed enigmas of Papua New Guinea to the breezy romance of Mauritius and the Seychelles, each destination boasts its own unique charm.
This is truly a journey down the road less travelled, a road paved with gently smouldering volcanoes, rainbow-casting waterfalls and palm trees swaying in the breeze. Beaches in Bali, mountains in Moorea, jungles in Java— no two days look the same. A dip beneath the waves transports you to a dynamic marine metropolis, flitting amidst vibrant coral reefs whilst up on dry land, indigenous communities are waiting to immerse you in ancient traditions and fabled myth.
Who said you had to choose between bold adventure and a balmy beach holiday? The best of both worlds can be yours with an expedition cruise to the tropics!
When you think ‘Europe’ you probably think leisurely strolls through blue-tiled towns. Markets in sundrenched plazas. Aperol Spritz on the beach. You probably don’t think ‘expedition’.
Yet, whether you’re visiting for the first time or wish to rediscover this region from a new perspective, you’ll find an expedition is the way to go. Accompanied throughout by a team of experts, the history, traditions and natural wonders of Europe will spring to life in a way that is simply not comparable to an ocean cruise. No big-umbrellain-the-air-walking-tours here—Zodiacs and kayaks make for the perfect vantage point from which to explore these tiny, off-the-beaten track ports. Here, active excursions are perfectly counterbalanced by quieter, culture-focused pursuits.
You may snorkel in azure waters one day and wander through a museum the next. You may close the curtains on a day of hiking around canyons and waterfalls and wake, ready for a private wine tasting or artisan craft workshop.
At its heart, Europe is a land of contrasts—an expedition cruise highlights this dichotomy better than anything else.
Traversing the planet’s most isolated frontiers all whilst ensconced in premium comfort and style… it may sound like an unattainable cruising fantasy, but it’s all in a day’s work for Silversea. The GALÁPAGOS islands
My recent expedition to the Galpápagos Islands with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions was truly the most incredible cruise I’ve ever been on. I’m now fully converted to expedition cruises and want to go on another!
I spent a full week on board National Geographic Endeavour II sailing from North Seymour Island to Isabela Island, Santa Cruz, Fernandina Island, Santiago, Rabida Island and San Cristobal. It was so immersive, the wildlife was out of this world and it felt so natural and remote - like one of the final ‘untouched’ places on the planet.
As soon as I stepped aboard the ship, I knew it was going to be a week to remember. It instantly felt like a home away from home, with a comfortable lounge areas where we attended presentations and enjoyed pre-dinner cocktails, a spacious restaurant with views all around (and a fantastic buffet), cosy cabins with views from the beds straight out of the window and a vast open deck up top where I spent many an evening watching the sunset.
What I loved about my experience was Lindblad Expeditions’ partnership with National Geographic. They have real local experts on board with so much knowledge about the incredible landscapes, wildlife and history of the islands.
It was wonderful to see the guides - barefoot hiking across volcanic terrain - get so excited about a species of bird they rarely see or a particularly impressive marine iguana perched on a rock. Their pure joy radiated from them and made learning about the Galapagos Islands all the more important as they were more than happy to share their excitement and love for the place they call home.
My favourite wildlife experiencebecause I know you’re all wondering! - was by far and away my up-closeand-personal encounter with giant Galapagos tortoises on Santa Cruz. It was a moment I had dreamed about since I was a child and it was a surreal and emotional experience. Equally, I didn’t expect to become an avid bird watcher on this voyage, but I did! It was fascinating learning about the evolution of flightless cormorants and Galapagos penguins and seeing them in person.
If you’re an outdoorsy person who has an appreciation for nature and unique travel, the Galapagos is one place you have to visit in your lifetime - and I can highly recommend a cruise with National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions!

FUTURE THE
Expedition cruising has rapidly evolved from a niche travel style into one of the most dynamic and influential sectors shaping the future of the cruise industry. Today’s travellers are looking for more than just a holiday, craving adventure and immersive experiences in more remote and less visited places.
The answer to this in the cruise industry is expedition cruising. Voyages which take guests to untouched wilderness like Antarctica, the Galápagos Islands, remote regions of the Arctic and Australia’s lesser-known Kimberley region. Expeditions to these regions allow keen travellers to tick off significant bucket lists experiences: stepping onto the Antarctic ice, witnessing Arctic wildlife up close, snorkelling untouched coral reefs or meeting remote Indigenous communities.
Not only is the desire for adventure a huge factor in the exponential growth of the expedition cruise industry, but so is the approach to sustainability and protection of the environment. With hybrid powered propulsion, advanced wastewater systems, reduction of onboard plastics and energy-efficient hull designs, many expedition vessels are showcasing the most impressive innovation of the industry in minimising environmental
impact, allowing guests to visit the most untouched corners of the globe whilst preserving them for future generations. Onboard citizen science programmes and educational lectures are increasingly allowing guests to actively participate in conservation efforts and learn about the importance of responsible exploration in delicate ecosystems.
Ultimately, the blend of sophistication and discovery hits that sweet spot when it comes to choosing the next holiday. Expedition cruises appeal more and more to time-rich, experience-led travellers who value both onboard luxury and exclusivity, as well as destination immersion and authenticity.
There’s no more choosing between intrepid exploration of a fascinating new destination or lapping up the luxury of elegant suites and fine dining. In this new era of travel, you can have both.
