Dredging work to begin at Bing’s Landing boat ramp Some 2,500 cubic yards of dredge material will be hauled out of the boat ramp area, according to the construction contract. SIERRA WILLIAMS STAFF WRITER
Dredging of the Bing’s Landing boat ramp will begin on May 18. The Bing’s Landing boat ramp basin will be dredged to approximately 5 feet below Mean low water within the Intracoastal Waterway. The dredge area will include the entire boat ramp and launch area, ending at the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway. Some 2,500 cubic yards of dredge material will be hauled out of the boat ramp area, according to the construction contract. The dredging contract was awarded to Quantum Marine Construction, a marine construction company, at the April 6 Flagler County Commission meeting. Commissioner Greg Hansen confirmed with the Observer that dredge work will begin May 18. Initially, according to original contract, the project also included upgrades to the boat ramp itself, including installing a new sidewalk and modifying the slope of the boat ramp for a more gradual incline. But those modifications were removed

from the current dredge project. In October, Flagler County received a $302,500 grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District that will support the Bing’s Landing dredging project. Flagler County’s 50% match of $302,500 will come from boat vessel registration
revenue and general revenue available in the Bing’s Landing Master Plan Improvements Project. Some parts of the Bing’s Landing Master Plan is still in design, awaiting details on the new restaurant and the Malacompra Canal Expansion. Some $500,000 is budgeted
for this from impact fees and boat vessel registrations, in addition to grant funding. Improvements include dredging, an archaeological component and passive recreation activities. Email sierra@observerlocalnews. com.
