BRIEFS

FYO director quites amid controversy Cheryl Tristam has stepped down as director of the Flagler Youth Orchestra. She made the announcement in an article she wrote on the FlaglerLive news site on July 3. Tristam is the only director the FYO has had in its 18 years of providing strings instruction and organizing concert performances for Flagler County students. This year, 350 students took part in the program. In her article, Tristam wrote, “The conduct of some of our School Board members toward me personally and toward the program has been reprehensible and inexcusable.” The School Board is auditing the FYO’s bank account, which is a Flagler Schools account that the district had lost track of. Board member Will Furry also asked for a legal investigation into the program’s structure.
