As summer slowly fades and the crispness of autumn settles in, I always feel a pull to slow down The days get shorter, the light gets softer, and suddenly being indoors feels inviting again Autumn has this wonderful way of reminding me that comfort can be found in the smallest rituals the smell of something baking, the sound of a match striking, the feeling of fresh sheets on a cool evening

For me, the season always begins with a visit to a pumpkin field somewhere between August and October It has quietly become a tradition over the years. The air is still gentle, the fields golden, and it feels like the perfect bridge between late summer and fall. I love coming home afterward to make my classic pumpkin and sage lasagna, a recipe that instantly fills the house with warmth. You can find it at the back of this issue.

This autumn, we ’ re celebrating everything that makes the countryside feel like home. The Cotswolds Collection captures that spirit beautifully, with rich textures, inviting tones, and pieces that bring a touch of the rural calm indoors.

It’s about more than decorating; it’s about creating spaces that feel lived in, layered, and deeply comforting.

Inside this issue, you’ll find inspiration from some truly beautiful homes around the Cotswolds, each with its own character and charm. We also visited the home of Floortje, a good friend of Palais’ Creative, Mara. Beyond her impeccable taste, she’s a true DIY lover, constantly finding creative ways to make her space personal and full of life.

For our new Cotswolds Collection, designer Laura took a whirlwind journey around the world for inspiration. Imagine cozy autumn vibes in warm, moody hues, inspired by the British countryside, with a dash of global flair.

We’ve got paisley from India, Suzani patterns from Uzbekistan, Chinoiserie-inspired vases, and a few familiar prints from past collections making a comeback.

AT HOME WITH FLOORTJE

At home with Floortje

Floortje and her husband fell in love with their home because of the light. Despite the dreary weather on viewing day, the natural light streaming in through windows on both sides made it clear – this was the one. "It just felt right," she says. If she had to describe her home in three words, they’d be eclectic, organized chaos, and loving.

Her favorite spot in the house? Isabelle’s room – her baby’s nursery. "It’s pure passion," she shares, "a love letter to my daughter." Every little detail in the room is meaningful, creating a space that’s deeply personal and full of love.

One of Floortje’s most treasured items is her curiosity cabinet. "It’s full of things that mean a lot to me –souvenirs from our travels, special photos, and items passed down from my grandparents." These objects tell a story and bring warmth and meaning to her home.

Floortje’s top tip for creating a home that feels truly yours? "Add things that make you happy, but also things with a story.

Bring home that frame from your vacation or search through your grandma’s things for a beautiful candlestick. Those items create a home filled with stories and memories, things that transport you back to moments or people who are important to you."

Her favorite pieces from the Cotswolds Collection? "Rumi Smokey Blue & Caramel – I absolutely adore them. And the combination with Jackie Smokey Blue & Spice is stunning. Honestly, I want everything. When I see it all together, it’s just so beautiful!"

Floortje’s top tip for creating a home that feels truly yours? "Add things that make you happy, but also things with a story.

Floortje also shares a lovely autumn DIY: a clothing hanger turned into a charming wreath. She gathered acorn caps from her garden, attached them with hot glue, and created a simple, natural wreath perfect for a front door or wardrobe. "It’s a fun, easy project that brings a touch of nature into your home."

1 metal clothes hanger

Acorns and acorn caps

1 pinecone

Hot glue gun + glue sticks

Instructions

1. Shape the base

Bend the clothes hanger into a circular shape Keep the hook at the top this will serve as the hanger for your wreath

2. Gather natural elements

Collect acorns, caps, pinecones, and perhaps a few twigs or leaves from your garden or a nearby park

3. Attach the acorns

Use the hot glue gun to secure acorns and caps around the metal ring Mix different sizes and colors for a natural, rustic look

4. Add a centerpiece

Tie or glue a pinecone in the center of the wreath for extra depth and texture

5. Finish with ribbon

Tie a decorative ribbon at the top You can use it to hang the wreath or simply as a charming accent

And if you ’ re wondering where to begin - we ’ ve gathered six simple tips to help you create that same cozy calm at home.

1. Mixing textures

Layer linen, tufting and embroidery the trio that brings instant warmth and that cozy, stay-a-little-longer feeling.

2. Mixing patterns

Dare to mix what ‘shouldn’t’ work stripes with florals, checks with solids. That’s where the magic happens.

At Coombe End Manor, grandeur meets ease. High ceilings and historic details set the scene, but it’s the warmth that lingers worn wood, soft light, and rooms that feel effortlessly lived in. A reminder that elegance doesn’t need perfection, only personality.

Petra’s Roasted Pumpkin Lasagne

Prep Time: 1hr

Cook Time: 1hr 30 mins

Serves: 6-8 people

Ingredients

Béchamel sauce

4 cups milk (warmed)

⅓ cup olive oil

⅓ cup all-purpose flour

2 tbsp dried sage (crumbled)

Salt & pepper

Lasagna

1 medium-small pumpkin (under about 2 kg)

Olive oil

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 package lasagna noodles

Instructions

1. Make the béchamel

Warm milk. In a saucepan cook olive oil + flour for 2–3 min, whisk in milk gradually until smooth. Add sage, season, and simmer briefly.

2. Roast the pumpkin

Preheat oven to 200 °C / 400 °F. Peel, deseed, slice pumpkin. Toss with olive oil and roast until just tender.

3. Prepare the noodles

Cook according to package if using regular sheets, or use no-boil noodles.

4. Assemble the lasagna

Layer dish with béchamel, noodles, half pumpkin, Parmesan. Next layer: noodles with ricotta (seasoned with salt, pepper, sage). Repeat with remaining pumpkin and Parmesan. Finish with noodles, sauce, and Parmesan.

5. Bake

Cover and bake 30 min, then uncover and bake 15 min more until golden. Rest 10 min before serving. Enjoy!
