Making a mark for being an advocate of emerging talent in Pakistan, Bank Alfalah’s Rising Talent Programme continues to motivate, inspire and recognise young and upcoming talent in the country and provide them with opportunities to showcase their talent. Bank Alfalah’s Rising Talent platform motivates, inspires and recognises young and upcoming talent in the country and provides them with opportunities to showcase their talent. Over the last few years, they have supported many individuals, not only in fashion, but in filmmaking and sports as well. The Fashion Industry in Pakistan has grown significantly over the last decade, playing a pivotal role in not only boosting the image of Pakistan globally but also generating significant revenue. Bank Alfalah has been supporting fashion bodies operating in the country, including the Fashion Pakistan Council
as well as the PFDC by supporting young talent to drive Pakistan’s economy. Now a name synonymous for supporting young talent in Fashion, Bank Alfalah’s Rising Talent Programme provides young fashion students and designers an opportunity to showcase their talent alongside renowned fashion designers. Introduced in 2014, the first of its kind “Rising Talent Award” announced at the Fashion Pakistan Week (FPW), provides a prestigious platform for four young designers to showcase their designs and also gives a cash award of Rs. 500,000 to the most promising upcoming designer. This year at PSFW
Bank Alfalah has always supported entrepreneurs and individuals with potential to contribute to the country’s economic growth. Through the Rising Talent Programme, we encourage and provide meaningful opportunities to deserving and talented youth. The Programme also aims to enhance the image of Pakistan by showcasing stories of optimism and ingenuity. Atif Bajwa, President & CEO, Bank Alfalah 2016 four debut Prêt designers showcased their collection through Bank Alfalah’s “Rising Talent – Discovering the Potential of Pakistan” platform. The young talent rose to the challenge of designing one piece each inspired by Bank Alfalah’s new brand identity. The award winner gets an opportunity to stock designs at the PFDC stores for six months. Hira Ali, Saiqa Raheem, Unza Khalid and Ghulam Dastgir contended for the Award with Ghulam Dastgir emerging as the winner at PFDC this year. 2016

Sana Safinaz’s Sugar Rush featured a contrast between a feminine colour palette of soft pastels paired with masculine stripes which created a fascinating sensory dichotomy. It featured luxe fabrics such as silk, organza and net to portray floral detailing and multidimensional appliqué garments. The cuts were simple and streamlined, unstructured and lightweight. We loved the creatively designed sneakers and Outhouse jewellery.
feeha jamshed Feeha Jamshed’s Bob Squad collection derived its inspiration from the late 60’s and early 70’s. The collection’s silhouettes varied from short to long and tapered to baggy with new and interesting cuts and colour palette was a mix of pastels and a pop of bright colours! Her comeback was a real treat to watch. We can’t wait for her bomber jackets to hit stores! 18

SARA sublime by sara
Sublime by Sara’s collection depicted an ethereal mood, effortlessly pairing both fluidity and structure. Inspired by a desire to exhale, a desire to let go and simply be, the collection used a soft palette of pastels and white. This collection was in all essence sublime and we were thrilled to see her beautiful pieces back on the runway!
muse MUSE’s #LastNight collection drew inspiration from an electrifying late night drive across the landscapes of Milan. Set in silks, cotton silks and knitwear, #LastNight featured a combination of sweatshirts, track pants and long sporty dresses embellished with sequins and glass beads. Featuring both menswear and womenswear, these pieces are extremely wearable and super stylish. We absolutely loved it! 2016

HSY’s Be Yourself embraced the spirit of individuality. From the Ikats of Indonesia to Latin American florals based in sunny yellows and vibrant pinks to hues of indigo and peacock blues, the collection was cheerful with unexpected colour combinations and is a homage to travel, luxury, and the freedom of expression.
house of ka m i a r ro k n i The House of Kamiar Rokni stayed true to its love for luxury and celebrated the art of elegance. It drew on a diversity of traditional fabrics and craft techniques. The collection was stunning, cohesive and strong- based in a palette of natural tones with the shades of blue and pops of pink across a range of fabrics including organza, jamavar, karandi, net and tissue. 20

PINK
Khaadi Khaas’ collection Translucent was inspired from the asymmetrical form of nature; where each element is unique on its own - yet comes together as a whole. Swarovski crystals, pearls and acrylics were the focus of this collection along with the fluidity of different translucent fabrics. The collection featured wrap detailing, voluminous pants and subtle see-through effect on silks, organza, georgettes and Khaadi handwoven fabrics.
karma pink Karma Pink’s Studio 54 collection, inspired by the disco era, made quite the statement. A diverse colour palette, heavy embellishments and muted backgrounds were the highlight.

Ali Xeeshan Theater Studio’s collection Voodoo was reflective of a journey from the lowest level of darkness to the highest point of joy. He utilized unconventional, metallic surface embellishments to translate the theme onto his garments. Off-shoulder tops, summer jackets and leg of mutton sleeves were trends that stood out!
sania maskatiya Sania Maskatiya revealed their signature geometrics featuring a fresh boldness in both abstraction and simplification, paying homage to the angular elegance of the Art Deco movement with their new collection ‘Décorer’. Accentuated by a myriad of embroidered textures on matching separates, Décorer radiates an organic fluidity reminiscent of the Art Nouveau Era. We loved the collection and the soundtrack mixed by celebrated DJ Shah Munir. 22

MAHGUL oro
MAHGUL introduced its new brand ORO with it’s The Indus Society collection. Highly conceptual in its inspiration, the collections’ colours and embellishments were inspired from animal skins, their patterns and a study of their anatomy, manifesting in the form of heavy embroideries and prints. This collection, inherently lounge and sports luxe in nature, presented three disctinct types of ensembles, casual wear silhouettes, to resort wear to formal wear with more structured tunics and trousers. We have our eyes on their new range of accessories which includes handmade totes, clutches & sneakers. This eclectic and electric collection has our vote.
NOMI nomi ansari Nomi Ansari’s Joyride is a celebration of the vibrant reflection that comes with today’s fast paced environment. Structured silhouettes, motifs of pop art elements and in-house prints were the basis of this fabulous collection. This collection can be best defined as an amalgamation of pop art and high fashion. 2016

Zonia Anwaar’s Kievan collection was inspired by the culture of the Kievan Rus era from medieval times. It incorporated modern Ukrainian decorative art in its floral and cross stitch intricate patterns. It was a fabulous collection!

n i ck i e n i n a Nickie Nina’s Flechazo (Love at first sight) was inspired by the rich culture of Spanish Metadora’s, their strength, agility combined with their femininity and beauty. The key trends highlighted in the collection were a combination of relaxed tops with structured inners, palazzos and culottes of different lengths paired with wraps.
Saira Shakira’s Ysatis collection showed a mix of geometric prints and florals, heralding the arrival of spring. Pastes with hints of black and an array of silhouettes made this collection stand out. 24

Inspired by the colours of cappuccino and dove, Maria B’s latest collection featured meticulous embroidery that is a tribute to a woman’s personality, her love of flowers and all things bling. Using luxurious fabrics, the main theme of the collection was minimalistic and understated. We have our eyes on the peplum jackets and fun kimono sleeves!
Zara Shahjahan’s Sartorialist was a modern take on the Kashmiri “Phiran” (oversized kurta) and was coupled with a minimalistic and organic look. The womenswear collection was based in a colour palette of earthy shades and soft pastels on pure cotton linen with contemporary chic detailing and edgy silhouettes. Zara Shahjahan’s signature floral motif was an integral part of the collection’s embellishments, which were purposely minimal to ensure that the primary focus is on the silhouette. 2016

Ghulam Dastgir’s collection ‘Ettal Abbey and Bavarian Peasants’ drew inspiration from Ettal Abbey which is one of the most famous churches of Bavaria, Germany. Ettal Abbey church and Bavarian working classes have been chosen as subjects to manifest the equality between elite and lower class. We liked that Ghulam wasn’t afraid to experiment with different fabrics, silhouettes and experimented with many techniques and embellishments, winning him the Bank Alfalah Rising Talent Award.
hira ali Inspired by the literary tale of ‘Alice in the Wonderland’, Hira Ali’s collection ‘Curiouser & Curiouser’ was white and ivory with cobalt blue as the collection’s accent color. The silhouettes are such that volume comes in play with raglan and kimono sleeves alternating in the front and back of the same garment. Her minimalistic collection was a treat! 26

Saiqa Raheem’s ‘Yurt’s Manifestation’ collection drew inspiration from Yurts picked out from Kara-Kalpak’s way of life. The collection highlighted the transition and stark contrast between the two ways a yurt is viewed as external side of the yurt is extremely plain whereas the interior is exceptionally conventional due to the usage of robes and the interweave method.The exaggeration of silhouettes and textures from the traditional influence with overlapping, turning and interlocking are the main elements which have been made to form texture on the surface.
Unza Khalid’s ‘Melody Lay to Muddy Death’ drew inspiration from a pre-Raphaelite painting by John Everett Millais. The collection revolved around Ophelia, the main female character of Hamlet bringing light to the painting’s depiction of Ophelia’s dramatic drowning and her irrepressible fascination for nature. The transparency of Ophelia’s nature and the ‘artistic dress movement’ was portrayed using light weight ultra-feminine fabrics like pure self-cotton-net, raw silk and organza. The garments included layering draped with sheer fabrics in order to show the intricate detailing that went into the making of the painting. There was attention to detail like embellishment through applique of hand painted net in some garments.

massive eye level runway We loved that the runway was on eye level, but it was just too wide. While the choreography ensured that each outfit got plenty of time on the runway, it was difficult to focus on indivuidual detailing.
