Route 2 is internationally certified by body and flow - how often are the trainers Trained? Route 2 is affiliated with the international Pilates school Body and Flow. Our master trainer Zainub Abbas is on the faculty of B&F. We offer at least 2 courses per year. Also we hold workshops for the in house teachers to further their knowledge in the Pilate’s repertoire and new trends and exercises. Tell us about your team? We have a dynamic, motivated team of teachers willing to further their own knowledge and work in accordance to the needs of our client ranging from young girls to the older population. We also encourage external teachers to teach at the studio helping them with a platform to further their teaching pursuits. What is your role at Route 2 and how’s your experience? Route2 is my brain child. I have strived hard to maintain international standards at our facility. All our teachers are Internationally certified and have been trained by me. The past decade has been a long journey which has been full of struggle, hard work but also joy. It humbles me to see the progress my teachers have made and it brings immense joy and pride when I see our clients benefitting not only in getting stronger in their bodies but calmer and happier in their minds. Pilates the way we approach it and teach it at Route 2 is a holistic experience. Pilates is Route 2’s forte. Tell us more about it? A decade ago there was no or little knowledge of Pilates in Pakistan. We not only introduced Pilates here in Pakistan but we are the only institute the works towards Pilates education. Several young girls have been inspired by our work and have chosen to receive Pilates education at our studio and then moved on to establish their own space. It makes us extremely proud to know that we are the ones laying the foundation of this dynamic form of body movement. Do you prefer Pilates or Yoga? Those are two completely different ways of moving the body for a healthier, stronger you. Both Pilates and yoga compliment each other. Pilates is more physical and better for strengthening since resistance is used. My preference will always be Pilates. According to you, when did it start attracting more people? It’s been popular for over a century amongst ballet dancers and actors in the west. But recently the Bollywood actresses have taken a fancy to Pilates and that has made it quite popular amongst the women in Pakistan. Does Route 2 have any competition? So far none. How long is the Pilates Training teacher course
for? Can anyone register? Becoming a Pilates teacher is quite a journey. Anyone can become a teacher provided they go through the requirements. One is required to have attended certain number of classes, then there is an anatomy course and then the first and basic course is Mat 1. How long does it take to train new teachers? Are they able to conduct classes at the studio right after being trained? If we just take the Mat 1 course, then including the contact hours it’s almost 3 months before a teacher is ready to teach her first mat classes. It can vary from person to person. We do support our students by offering them classes, provided we have space. Route 2 recently started their Dance fitness class. How has the response been? We’ve had a very positive response. Clients feel motivated and energized after the class. What’s next for Route 2? Do you guys plan on opening up another fitness studio? We have grown organically over the past decade and we believe in quality work. Having said that our eyes are set for bringing this life changing form of movement to more and more people in Pakistan.
