Tell us a little about yourself? I always feel awkward describing myself, like when the teacher asks you to tell the class something about yourself on the first day of school, always so weird! But here goes, my name’s ansar. I’ve been rapping for basically a decade, and making tiktoks for a year now. Grew up in Pakistan, moved to Canada for university onwards. Dreaming of big things but taking it by the day I guess? Not much else to me really! What inspired you to start making music and Tik Tok videos? Two completely different journeys with surprisingly similar beginnings, both started because of my friends. With music, I was a rap fanatic, and my friend at the time suggested we rap for fun. GOD, it was utterly horrible. We made music on my laptop with our trashy 150 rupee earphone mics over the corniest beats. But we never stopped, eventually got better, and that’s what leads me here! With tiktoks I was fresh out of University, biding my time looking for a job whilst trying not to go insane. My friend showed me a TikTok (back when it wasn’t as widely used or cool) that he made and I thought ‘oh hey that looks fun, i want to try that!’ And so I did! And that’s what led that journey here.
about it, but it’s something quite a few of my friends have done and I just NEED to try it. If I get up there I know there’s no going back. Plus I have a fear of heights! So it’d be conquering a fear. One day, I don’t know when, but one day, I’m gonna do it. If you’re not making music and videos what do you do for fun? Definitely meeting friends. It’s a lot harder now given the pandemic but before everything got out of hand I was always with one friend or another. We’d play basketball, ride our bikes through downtown, talk on long walks through the park, go to a museum exhibit, a nice restaurant, or whatever! There was so much to do! Alas… I’ll still meet a trustworthy and responsible group of friends every now and then but it’s much more seldom obviously. If you could have dinner with any famous personality who would it be and why? This is way too hard man, there’s so many people I want to meet. I feel like this answer is subject to change depending on my mood but as of now it’s Frank Ocean. He’s just so talented and also enigmatic. A one-on-one with him where I could pick his brain would be the dopest thing.

Did you ever feel discouraged mid way your routine? How did you push through it? Yeah I do, quite a bit. From negative comments to generally bad mentalhealth days. It’s tough. On days that the bad comments get to me I try to meet my friends so they can keep me busy and off my phone, and on bad mentalhealth days there’s not much I can really do. I just wait it out and try not to be too hard on myself. Self-love is something I haven’t been too good at but I’m working on it. Sometimes I video doesn’t do as well as I’d hope, and it saddens me; but on those days I have to look back on how far I’ve come and be grateful that I even have a reason to be sad about something which would’ve been a feat for me just a year ago.
What are the top three things that you cherish the most in your life? In general? My sisters, my parents, and my friends. I know it’s extremely corny but it’s the people that make life worth living. Don’t roll your eyes. It’s true. Material things? My laptop, my phone, and my microphone. Where would I be without all three of those beautiful things. All hail our capitalist overlords! What is the #1 thing yet to be ticked off your bucket list? Definitely skydiving. My heart starts racing just thinking
What is your dream project? I have way too many dreams… No really, I day-dream way too much. I can’t pick once again. Maybe be the Director of a film one day? Or a music video? I think I would love to direct something, maybe I’m biting off more than I can chew with that statement but I’m a huge film nerd and I even when I create tiktoks I try to think in cinematic terms, I just don’t have the means to followthrough with it on a bigger scale yet, but InshAllah one day, who knows?
A lesson your biggest failure might have taught you? Don’t beat yourself up over something that’s happened. It sounds so corny even as I say it, but that’s a big lesson I learned from an extremely dark period in my life. The future seemed non-existent and life seemed hopeless, but It’s never too late to pick yourself back up on your feet and take a step towards the right direction. Just because you might come in last doesn’t mean you shouldn’t finish the race. You feel me? What advice would you give to young boys who look up to you and have goals and dreams like you? Don’t give up after a couple of tries. I’m not saying close yourself out to constructive criticism completely but most people don’t have a knack for something as soon as they start it, or at least I sure didn’t. So don’t lose hope in something just because you’re not instantly good at it, it takes time, but the reward is worth it! 2020

Where did you choose to go and why? I went to Toronto, Canada as my company STARLINKS PR AND EVENTS was handling the PR for 6th Hum Awards, and to San Francisco where Ms Shanaz Ramzi, CEO of our company had won a gold award in the category of female CEO of the Year.
