emerging
from the
lockdown
After 5 months, the government has finally let restaurants and other business to open up and some of us might be pleased, many of us are still wondering if that’s a good idea! Although as a country that does not have a great economic stability we need to think of our working class but this definitely does NOT mean that the threat of covid 19 is over! The coronavirus is still very much out there, and we need to be smart citizens and not go out to the cinemas or go shopping as if everything is back to normal! You still have to practise social distancing, Wear a mask and wash your hands! We asked a few restaurant owners their take and how they feel about finally opening up to their customers after such a long halt.
bamboo
union We have enforced strict sops both for customers and the staff. A copy of the government sops will always be available for the customers.

Opening up the restaurants was eventually something the government had to do as the restaurant industry not just employs scores of people but there are about 40 allied industries that depend on us, the 4 month period of the government-enforced lockdown has put these suppliers in a very strange situation. Some might never be able to recover from the losses they have had to incur.

How do you feel about opening up after 4 months? We are very excited about opening after this long break where things have been uncertain and quite stressful for everyone in the hospitality industry. Do you think things will be back to normal? It will take time for things to go back to normal. Everyone will have to adjust to the new guidelines and accept that people will be apprehensive initially. As long as everyone follows the SOPs diligently we will be able to start getting back to a normal routine.
CURRY
LEAF,
How do you plan on running your restaurant now? The Government has issued an extensive list of SOPs that need to be followed which we have implemented. Keeping those in mind and making sure the guidelines are adhered to, it should be business as usual. Do you feel it’s a good idea to open up during a pandemic? The pandemic itself is evolving and changing on a constant basis and it’s difficult to say when a vaccine would be available. The procedures that need to be followed to remain safe and keep others safe have already been implemented around the world so we have an idea of what needs to be done.

THE
BRASSERIE How do you feel about opening up after 4 months? Our takeaway and home delivery service has been operational for the past three months. But reopening for dine in is something very exciting and we look forward to hosting our patrons again. Do you think things will be back to normal? I hope that happens soon but seems like it’s going to take a few more months. In the meanwhile, we should take care of each other and play our part to eliminate this pandemic. How do you plan on running your restaurant now? We, at The Brasserie, have always followed strict protocols to keep up the hygiene standards. In the current situation, we have introduced our new paper menus, which will be disposed off once the customer leaves the table. Wearing masks, use of sanitizers and disinfectants, six feet distance between the tables and temperature checks for the customers as well as our staff is being ensured. I believe, in the last few months, dine in restaurants have managed to improve and widen their home delivery services. In the coming days, this will help in increasing their daily sales. At The Brasserie, customers will now be able to place orders through our website and mobile application. Use

of QR code for contactless ordering will also be available. Do you feel it’s a good idea to open up during a pandemic? In my opinion, people should socialise rather than staying at home for months. Mental illness or depression is as harmful as this pandemic. But, as restaurateurs, it’s our responsibility to provide safe and secure environment to our visiting guests.
How do you feel about opening up after 4 months? Motivated! But as much as we want things to go back to normal we're still in the middle of a pandemic so we have to be extra cautious and careful with the SOPs. Do you think things will be back to normal? It will take some time and it can only happen if we act like responsible people. How do you plan on running your restaurant now? So we've limited our capacity to 50% and we are encouraging customers for takeaway or car dine in more, honestly. For now, we are only catering to reservations. We will make sure the entire restaurant is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after every service. It’s still risky and we don't want to think or assume that it’s over so we will follow strict protocols To ensure the safety of ourselves, our staff and our guests. Do you.
