I DID study, I did at my own pace and in a calm frame of mind. And there were times I didn’t - and that was always okay. I don’t remember ever feeling stressed out before an exam or feeling anxious in the morning of. I remember this one week I had 5 A level exams scheduled back to back. After the fourth one, I felt so exhausted, I went home, had lunch and took a break, slept for 5-6 hours. Woke up at midnight. Opened up my books for my morning exam. I only studied like 6 hours for a literature exam but it was the best I could do. I couldn’t manage everything. I just got up when it was time to leave and went and gave my exam. That was prob the worst prepared I was for a CIE exam but never was I consumed with guilt or riddled with anxiety because we forget we are humans and not machines. To this day I tackle each and every task like this. Never do I blame myself, I accept that I’m human and I should treat myself like one. I always try to do MY best. And it’s always good enough. – Fatima Nadeem

The best advice that my father has given me is to always do the best that I am capable of. This is not the standard advice that every parent gives, but the assurance that you don’t need to mentally torture yourself by stressing unnecessarily or feeling overly anxious to prove something to yourself or your parents. Every time before a test or exam he would give me this advice. I’d remember opening my books the day before the exam, going over as much content as I could with complete focus, but when the night would come and I lost my ability to retain any more, I’d close my books, and no matter how much was still left to do, I’d go to bed and get a good nights sleep. I wouldn’t cram, I wouldn’t wake up with my mind consumed with stress. I’d get dressed - head on over to school and give my exam. Completely at peace. I had, after all, done as much as I physically could manage. And I’d perform quite well because everything

How did you end up in this field? I was in New York when I was offered to do a drama. At that time I was working as a copywriter back there, so when the opportunity came my way I seized it. What makes you choose the roles that you opt for? Initially I did not put my heart and soul into choosing a role; I would just focus on a good script. However, now I am very focused and driven to the fact on how to choose my roles. I tend to look for variety and diversity in my roles that will help me explore the true artist in me. Do you think Juvenile obsession is not given enough attention? Yes definitely, it is not given much attention. My recent drama Qaid in fact was based on juvenile obsession and explored the whole side to it. Unfortunately I do believe that our society does not talk about this issue on the level that it deserves. It is a prevailing problem and more people need to speak up about it.

She is ready to set everything on fire and is somebody who is both feisty and quirky. TV or films? I think TV. What are your thoughts on nepotism? Nepotism definitely exists in this industry and a lot of people do say that I am the product of nepotism. However, I believe nepotism only works to a certain extent. I might get one or two projects because of it but in order to sustain it does not work. Nobody is going to put money in a project or a film if one is not talented enough.

You are working with your mother and aunt, how has that been? Working with my mother and aunt has truly been a delight. From being pampered on set to getting yummy home cooked food everyday by Bushra Khala, everything was just great. On top of that I gained so much while working with them as they both used to teach me how my accent needs to be in a particular scene. The amount of support that they gave me every step of the way was immense.
How was the experience of working in a film? My first film is Asim Raza’s Parey Hut Love, has been truly magnificent. Working on it was such a lovely experience as I got to learn a lot on how films work in our industry. How different is your Chhalawa character from the rest you have done? My character in Chhalawa is very different from
How does it feel to be working alongside your husband in your next project Chhalawa? It was so much fun and I absolutely had the best time with him on the set. He is a darling at home but he is much more fun at the set. He is very quiet and would find a corner where he could go and watch his series even on the set!
What kind of roles are you looking to work with in the future? To be honest I am still in the process of figuring out that what kind of roles I want to do further. After both my films are done then I will probably see in which new direction I want to head. For you success is..? For me success is mental health, peace and happiness. If I am able to achieve that then I believe I am a successful person. Who has been your biggest inspiration and why? My biggest inspiration has been my mother who has been a fighter and a survivor. Also my father who has taught me to always be truthful, to be kind, to be humble, to be modest which sometimes does bite me back but I am so glad I am the way they taught me to be.
