Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted? Funny story! I actually gave exams for Medical School and got in but due to certain reasons did not end up going. However I always had a creative spirit and it wasn’t long before I knew that the makeup, hair and beauty industry was my true calling. What was your “aha!” moment? I was doing Makeup for my friends since I was 15 for fun but it wasn’t until one of my best friends asked me to do her makeup for her wedding that I realized how much I enjoyed the process. The moment she saw herself in the mirror as a bride and the beaming smile on her face was when I thought “This is it. This is what I want to do”. Did you ever consider or experience a career change? A lesser-known fact is that I pursued painting in my teens and 20s and even had a few exhibitions of my work before I decided to become a Makeup Artist, Hairdresser and Skin Specialist. When was a time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it? I don’t allow anyone or anything to discourage me, instead finding opportunities in every challenge that I am faced with. What was the best advice that your mentor gave you? I was told that whenever I start teaching my skills, I must never hold back and share every single tip and trick that I have learnt through the years. In my classes, that’s exactly what I do and I have realized that sharing only increases your own wealth of knowledge.
All the behind the scenes stuff- the sacrifices, late nights, early mornings and the constant strive for a work life balance. Name one boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you? Princess Diana is the ultimate BossLady for me. She was not afraid to speak her mind and do the right thing even if that meant breaking protocol. Through her small and big acts of kindness, she changed the world. Describe a day in your life. I generally wake up at 8, have breakfast with the family and set tasks for the house staff. Before I get to work I FaceTime with my beautiful 5 month old granddaughter which always sets the tone for my day. I am usually the first one at the salon and after checking my appointments for the day I brief my staff and remind them about #TheBellagioExperience and the standards we need to maintain each day. The day consists of consultations, hair colour, makeup and laser appointments. I don’t generally leave the salon until the last client of the day is done. Once home, I unwind with a cup of tea with my husband and have dinner at home or go out to catch up with friends or family.

Hair, Makeup and Skin is a professional career abroad- one that needs proper qualifications, training and experience. It is my dream to bring girls into this field in Pakistan with the same international standards of training.
Complete this sentence: To me, a #BossLady is…” Someone who is unapologetically confident in themselves and their abilities. Someone who is fiercely passionate and driven and really, truly chases their dreams. What did you learn from your biggest failure? Never to trust anyone except Allah SWT.
Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with? Barack Obama. His authenticity and passion inspires me. What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours? 1. Have trust in God’s plan 2. Believe in your own strength and potential 3. Be honest with your work 4. Don’t ever make money the driving force, instead allow your passion to lead the way

ANOUSHEY ASHRAF from a vj to a tv presenter and also a morning talk show host, anoushey ashraf has made waves in the pakistani television industry for almost two decades. ashraf started her career at the tender age of eighteen, and has been there since the start, and it is with no doubt her career has grown leaps and bounds ever since. an ace style star, actress and television show host, anoushey ashraf is an inspiration to us all.

Can you tell us a little about yourself? Most people know everything about me but for those who don’t, I’m Anoushey, I come from a fun loving, close knit family and I’m a true Karachiite! I love my dogs and my work. I love Pakistan more than I love any other place on Earth! You started working at the age of 18. How did you get into the showbiz industry and what motivated you to stay in this line of work? I got into the industry by sheer chance. My friend has mentioned how Indus TV at the time was looking for interns and since I always wanted to be a writer/journalist/anchor and I thought it would be the best place to get some experience. I landed up at the office and got myself a small internship. However the boss of the channel spotted me sooner than later and insisted I try out at an audition for a show. I did! And as they say, the rest is history! From a VJ to a TV presenter and also a Morning Show host, you are so multitalented. Where do you get inspiration from for all the work you take on and do? I think I get most of my inspiration from every day life and experiences. It is also important to enjoy what you do, as that inspires you automatically. I love my work thankfully. I also get along with the people I work with so I’m generally lucky and super grateful that I do what I love and get paid for it. Just day-to-day, how do you manage all the different projects you have? And how do you continue to stay so motivated to keep on top of all these projects? I try and get good sleep and lots of water into my system so I don’t have to rely on caffeine etc. to get energy. Honestly, it’s only because I enjoy what I do that I feel motivated. I also keep planning regular vacation time and that keeps me motivated to work extra hard. I know that at the end of it all, I’ll be able to take time off and travel some more. I don’t take on too many projects at a time any more so I keep it easy, free flowing and manageable. Stockholm, New York and Lisbon to name a few. Can you tell us about your career as an actor? How did your passion for acting come about? I’m not much of an actor at all but I’ve tried my hand… What would you consider to be your big break? I think I’m perhaps one of the few people in the business who’s never had a big break but only a continuous, solid, steady growth in my field of work. Every project takes me a step higher and forward. My growth as a human, an intellectual and a hard working person perhaps has been my biggest break! *Laughs* Are you working on any exciting new projects currently? I’m hosting the breakfast show on City FM 89 and I love it. It excites me every morning. I speak about issues close to my heart and I play music in between! Can’t get better than that for the time being. What is your daily routine like? I wake up at 6:00 am sharp; I meditate for about 10 minutes, and get breakfast before I head to work! I nap a bit and then run my errands and walk the dogs during the day. If I have a show lined up, I work on that or else I spend my time with my family and friends. I also read lots! You have traveled far and wide, what has been your favorite holiday destination so far? For someone who loves to travel, every destination becomes special in its own way. You find the beauty in all places. You know you aren’t there forever, so you try and make the most of it, even if it isn’t the most exciting place. That being said, there are some cities and places I love. Karimabad,
How important is it for you to take regular breaks and go on holiday, even if it’s just for a few days? Very important. It’s one of the reasons I work so hard, so I can sit on a plane and see another place in this beautiful, diverse world of ours. Breaks are important for everyone. Take a back seat and enjoy the world around you. We weren’t only meant to work 24/7 or stress ourselves to no end. Plan mini vacays and get away whenever you can! What kind of mark do you want to leave on the world? I want people to remember me as a kind human being who respected their values and tried to help make this world a place with less hate and more love. What do the next five years hold for you? I just want to be content in life. I have nothing else planned except being okay with whatever life throws at me. Just be. You have been in the Pakistani showbiz industry for decades. Would you say things have changed since you first started your career? If so, how? Yes they have. Things have gotten bigger, better and more professional! Being a female working in this industry, do you feel there are more challenges faced by women rather than men in our society? Of course! But I’m glad the conversation on this has begun and we are slowly seeing a change in scenario. Women are being heard. They’re demanding to be seen and they’re making this working space a better, safer environment for each other.
