SHE HAS FINALLY OPENED HER OWN CUTE CAFE CALLED DEJA MY PARISIAN PATISSARIE.

What was your “aha!” moment? I remember very clearly; it was one of the French classes that I took along with a culinary program in Montpellier. I asked the teacher how do you say “already” in French and he replied “Deja” and that’s when I decided Deja it is! I’ve had such moments with my previous projects as well. Did you ever consider or experience a career change? Nope! Food is life. When was the time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it? About two years ago I had to take a life changing decision regarding work and I was lost. So I applied for a culinary and language program in the south of France. I travelled and studied for a while and found clarity and perspective. It helped. What was the best advice that your mentor gave you? It was to never give up and to put yourself before anything else.

she still inspires you? My Mother in law, she’s straight up gangster! I hope I can balance between work and family like her one day. Describe a day in your life Wake up, go to the gym, come home and make breakfast. Get ready for work and then chaos till almost 1 am. From driving around the city to sampling new recipes to procurement of new ingredients, dealing with happy and not so happy customers and endless phone calls all in a day.

Complete this sentence: To me, a #BossLady is…” Balanced and focused! What did you learn from your biggest failure? Everything happens for a reason and Allah is the best planner. Keep praying and working hard for your goals. Dreams do come true, just don’t give up and just don’t stop trying.

Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with? Rene Redzepi and Samin Nosrat (They aren’t world leaders). Rene is the chef and co-owner of a restaurant in Denmark that only uses local products in the restaurant. Samin is a chef and writer of the book “Salt Fat Acid Heat” mastering the art of cooking with these elements. What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours? Set your eyes on your goals, don’t lose focus. It won’t be the easiest path but the reward is worth it. Stay down to earth and humble. Also one thing to always remember is that it’s okay to say NO! Don’t be afraid, be fierce.

I wanted to become a performer

and it was during one of my theatre performances that I realized I should become a comedian. Who has been your biggest influence? I would say different people have been influences to me at different stages of life. But currently it is my husband.

ASIDE FROM THIS, SALEEM HAS ALSO BEEN ACTIVE ON TELEVISION AS SHE MADE HER FILM DEBUT IN THE COMEDY FILM PARCHI.

What would you say is the most exciting part of your job? My job itself is very entertaining. I get to meet so many people; I get to know so many new things. Two days are never the same. What does your typical day look like? My day starts with a black coffee and a few hours of sleep. I have

an unusual sleep pattern sometimes because of work and sometimes I stay up late for no reason then end up cleaning my room and rushing to work, and also running some errands for home. The day ends with dinner with my husband and creating content late in my office at home. I usually create content late at night. Tell us about any challenges you have come across since starting your career. There have been so many challenges. People also ask me what challenges I have faced when I started this career? I would say the challenges are ongoing. Having a stable and a stable income out of an unstable job and unstable income was the toughest challenge I guess. Also doing comedy in a male dominated society was a hurdle. In addition to that, managing a large team as they all have their own hurdles is also a tough job. Are you working on any exciting new projects currently? Two minutes with Faiza Saleem is my favorite these days. Tell us what it has been like working with your girls troop; The Khawatoons. Working with the Khawatoons has been very exciting as we have completed three years now and I’m very proud of that because usually troops don’t last that long. In addition to that, maintaining a friendship with my troop as a leader isn’t an easy

task. I have seen them grow, and I take a pride in that. Do you write your own routines? Where do the ideas come from? I create my own content, my ideas comes from my real life incidents. Last night I made a video on how Desi people say after they come from a trip’ and it started with me commenting on my Dubai trip. What are your feelings about the comedy scene in Pakistan? Is it a growing industry? It is definitely a growing industry. I‘ve also seen many people choosing this field as they think it’s a trend. I believe that primarily you should be passionate about this field, everything else is secondary because if you’re not passionate about it, it can’t last for long. Do you have any other passions or talents? So all my passions and talents are combined in this. I like writing, performing and making fun of everyone in a way that it’s funny and I’m also very open about others making fun of me.

Where did you choose to go and why? I traveled to Rome and Milan Bergamo because our vendors for Rene were there. Who did you travel with? I traveled with my family and Rene team. Tell us about sites no one should miss out on? Spanish steps and Vatican City - Rome especially Sistine chapel to see Michel Angelo’s paintings of Man's Creation – an art of a lifetime. Milan - Duomo De Milano the cathedral which was built over 600 years ago. Bergamo - most peaceful place ever. It’s a small city which was the original holy Vatican city it’s just beautiful and tranquil to walk. A walk to remember indeed!
