This week, Team Paperazzi headed over to the latest addition to Karachi’s food scene; a New York style Middle Eastern Restaurant in Karachi. We just had to give it a try! Walla has a very simplified menu including their signature Shawarmas and Rice Platters, with a make-it-yourown concept behind their dishes. Walla won our hearts with their food and we are sure to be dropping by again very soon!

Why did you decide to become a designer? I always wanted to be a designer. Even as a seven year old, I would help my mom dress up for parties and would take a lot of interest in her wardrobe. Who has been your biggest inspiration and why? My biggest inspiration has to be nature because nothing is more beautiful than Allah’s created world around us.

Tell us about a time when you had to deal with a difficult client. What was the situation and how did you react? Thank God I have really good clients who understand my work and my creations. When you customize or make a couture piece for your client then it’s okay to have a little bit of disagreements along the way, but if the piece is created just what they imagined it to be, I’m delighted! If you weren’t a designer, what would you be doing right now? If I wasn’t a designer, I would have been an interior designer. I enjoy creating art in all forms.

What is your favorite song to belt out at in the car? ‘Breathe’ by Jax Jones What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you? I’m an amazing cook and I can sing relatively good as well. How would you describe your personal style? My personal style is classic and old school in traditional clothes. I prefer to wear casual attire during the day which
Which design house do you look up to and why? I think the design houses which have been working for more than 7-8 decades have really proved themselves to be timeless and classic. They stood the test of time, that includes: Chanel, Christian Dior, Fendi to name a few. What is your creative process before you launch a collection? I gather a lot of references from nature and my travels, so before I sit with my team to design a collection, I make a lot of random sketches about things that have inspired me. Then we move on to colour sampling to match our sketches. What’s your motto or the advice you live by? Suum cuique. Suum cuique is a Latin phrase translated as "to each his own."

9 LINES 9Lines debuted their super edgy and fun collection Pop Kitschry on Day 1, with Nausheen Shah as their showstopper. Inspired by pop art with a playful touch of contemporary and sass, stitched in modern silhouettes and amped up with out-of-the-world accessories, their collection brought pieces that played on the brand’s funky sense of humor.

KHAADI KHAAS Inspired by Spanish flamboyance and the passion and history of the flamenco dancer, the drama and intensity of the matador and the song and the longings of the gypsy. Thread and fabric are the creative expressions where rich Spanish history intertwines with the luxury of Muslim culture. Bold and nuanced, the material tells the intertwined tales of craving, betrayal, war, and occupation.

OUTFITTERS Outfitters showcased their latest collection ‘Conversations’ on Day 2. Their collection depicted an amalgamation of the latest street style trends and youth culture. The carefully designed pieces were put together to express individuality and personal style.

RIZWAN BEYG Rizwan Beyg opened the show on Day 3 with his latest collection ‘Pearlessence’, a collection that paid ode to the three decades that the designer completes this year in the fashion industry. A retinue of assorted pearls with dainty thread embroideries dominated the collection, with the embellishments handcrafted by artisans living in Southern Punjab, working under the umbrella of BUNYAAD, a project founded by Rizwan, which is dedicated to ‘Changing lives… one stitch at a time’.

SANA SAFINAZ The Hum Showcase ended with a grand finale by Sana Safinaz, who displayed their signature aesthetic of femininity and elegance with their latest collection ‘Dynasty’. The collection brought out oblique references to Grace Jones and imagery reminiscent of the glory days have been incorporated into statement separates and cocktail attire. Silks, exquisite patterns, and colours

ZAHEER ABBAS Commencing the night with ‘Conceptuellè’, Zaheer Abbas aimed to broaden his canvas of signature whites as he dipped his toes in choice colors rendered with his fanciful imagination. Abbas’s collection put a strong, simple, dramatic emphasis on color, cut, construction and contrast in cotton, all without a speck of embellishment or print!
