IN THE SPOTLIGHT
featuring Gaia
MEET THE TEAM AZFAR HASAN | FOUNDING PARTNER How did Gaia come about? Gai’a started because we wanted to fill a void in creative fine dining experiences. We wanted the menu to be appealing and fresh while the atmosphere to be vibrant and yet suitable for those special occasions. Ga’ia was formed to break norms of how food is prepared, what goes into every serving, and the diversity of it all. What does Gaia mean to you? Gai’a for us is our project borne out of passion for food and dining out. It is our very own go to place when we are tired of normal meals and want something uniquely different that tastes great. For us, the ultimate success is to create delightful & memorable occasions for other when they visit Gai’a.

ASIM MALIK | CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER What does Gaia mean to you? For me, Gai’a has always been my third child, a child needs to be taken care of, nurtured, developed and monitored and this project is and always will be closest to my heart. It was a dream come true as I always wanted to be in the food business since I was about 10 years old. Even then, I wanted to study Culinary Arts but I grew up with conventional parents who did not approve of it. However, now with more than 20 years of experience in Corporate Branding and Microfinancing, I somehow ended up doing what I always wanted. I cherish Gai’a immensely and wholeheartedly want to build it into brand which is known for its food quality, flavors, amazing interiors and creativity.
IMRAN AKBAR | EXECUTIVE CHEF What does Gaia mean to you? Joining Gai’a has been a life changing experience for me. Asim Malik and I worked day in and day out to develop new flavors and combinations and as a team, we were able to come up with some delicious dishes that were evidently received positively by our guests. For me, Gai’a is my life line; every day is a new day and the creativity in our minds never stop. The entire Research & Development process is lengthy before the actual product is approved for our guests to tasteand that is what I live for.
SYEDA NAZNEEN ZAHRA GUEST RECEIVING MANAGER What does Gaia mean to you? The Gai’a team is like family to me. When I first joined, I was very apprehensive about it as I did not have much experience in this field. However, I was given proper training and now I can manage reservations and seating of our guests, all on my own. For us, our guests are like friends and that is why, at Gai’a, our guests feel right at home. Asim Malik, our COO, goes out of his way to make the space as a friendly working environment by making sure our meals, hygiene, and all other issues are taken care of and that is why everyone in our team goes the extra mile to be the best team in the industry. 2019

KETO DOES IT BUTTER!
What is a Ketogenic diet basically? The ketogenic diet is a very lowcarb, high-fat diet. Which means you will be consuming around 75% Fats, 20% Proteins and around 5% Carbs (approximately) actual macros may vary for each person. What is the benefit of following a keto diet? The ketogenic diet has gained so much popularity only due to its benefits. It basically changes your lifestyle completely and not only helps in weight loss but has numerous other health related benefits as

well. Some of the benefits of keto diet include appetite control, constant increase in energy and mental performance, controlled blood sugar levels, treating brain cancer, normalizing blood pressure, improved resting heart rate, reducing symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and less acne, etc What does a day of keto look like according to Eatio; break in terms of meals in a day. We at Eatio try our level best to serve our clients with various options of food from all sorts of
cuisines to ensure they forget the reservations of being on a diet, hence a normal day of keto diet with Eatio may be as follows: Breakfast: Keto Pancakes with Maple Syrup Lunch: Fat Head Pizza Dinner: Chicken tarragon Steak followed by a dessert (Ganache Mousse or maybe a Cheese Cake!) Share an experience where Eatio felt the need of starting Ketogenic food. Keto diet has been discovered back
in 1920’s and has been used as a major way to improve health as well as reduce weight in a few days time, people of Pakistan were unaware of the diet and those who knew of did not really have an option. Eatio felt the need to fill in the market gap here and serve our fellow members with a healthier lifestyle change. What are some common misconceptions of a ketogenic diet? A very common misconception is that people think it is almost the same as Atkins Diet (High Protein Diet) where as both are almost totally opposite. Keto Diet has a high amount of fat intake where as during Atkins high fat food are not recommended, a moderate protein intake is recommended in keto diet where as atkins is a high protein diet. Who shouldn’t follow keto diet? Keto diet is not recommended for people who do not have a Gall Bladder, gallbladder metabolizes fat and keto diet is very high on fat, so the people who do not have a gallbladder keto diet can be risky for them. Usually people who are above the age of 50 years, our team recommends them to get their doctors opinion before signing up for a diet plan with us.
How long do Eatio nutritionists take to calculate the client’s macros and data? We need our clients to fill in a subscription form for us, with the help of the form our nutritionists are able to calculate accurate macros according to each person. The entire process does not take more than 4 to 5 hours and then we can easily serve the clients as per their body needs. How long can someone be on a keto diet? Is it safe to follow keto for the long term? Should that be the goal? Can we see changes, metabolically, with just macronutrient changes (without focusing on fruits and veggies)? Ketogenic diet is a lifestyle change it is not only adapted to reduce weight but to gain numerous health benefits too, hence the lifestyle change can be adapted for as long as the person wish to. Most of the green vegetables are allowed in keto diet and fruits like berries are also a part of this lifestyle. You can pretty much eat everything while refraining to carbohydrates without which the body can easily operate if other nutrients are being supplied in accurate amounts. We cannot say that it is not safe to be adapted for a longer term however people who are looking
for a ‘Quick Fix’ of weight can shift to keto diet for a short period of time and revert back once they achieve their goal weight. Is it bad to abruptly start or stop following a ketogenic diet? Ketosis is a metabolic state, without being in the state of ketosis it is literally impossible to lose weight in a keto diet. It usually takes approximately 3 days at least for a person to enter ketosis and only then they will be able to be on the right track of weight loss. Hence, we can say it is not a good idea to stop ketogenic diet abruptly without achieving the goal since they will have to do the entire process again Would people with diabetes benefit from Eatio keto diet? Carbohydrates are the main source of energy of a person’s body when on any other diet, after consumption carbohydrates get converted into glucose. Keto diet has a minimal amount of carbohydrate intake and the body in gaining all its energy from fats rather than carbohydrates, hence; the body glucose levels fall thereby benefitting the people with diabetes, reversing type 2 diabeties is a famous advantage of keto diet.

LAHORIS TANTALISED BY THE
7UP FOODIES
FESTIVAL
L
ahore is all about electric energy and non-stop food. Known for its rich culture, heritage, historic architecture, Mughal-esque past and yummy cuisines, the city was the perfect hub to host the three-day 7UP Foodies Festival – the most happening food affair of the year. The festival was one of a kind for Lahoris, as it did not only cater to desi food lovers but was also organised to tantalise the taste buds of those who have an appetite for a diverse food menu. You’d see Lahore being thronged by foodies all year round and with the endless food options the city offers, it isn’t just the locals but those coming from

across Pakistan, as well as from all over the world fall in love with its interesting variety of cuisines. Everyone comes to Lahore in the
quest to delve into their favourite scrumptious, filling and mouth-watering food, and guess what happened when the 7UP Foodies Festival took place in this intriguingly diverse city? It certainly did not fail to impress anyone at all and that was why organising a food festival in the city of gardens was as apt as it could get. We kid you not, but the 7UP Foodies Festival just up-ed their game and have created a benchmark for their competitors to follow suit. The amazing aura of the food gala, the energetic Lahori crowd some much-needed dose of spirited music was enough to make it the most thrilling three-days of entertainment. Despite the many crowd-pulling attractions at the event including music, the 7UP Foodies Festival, as the name suggests, was all about foodies and their undying love for
everything food. After a long time, 7UP managed to bring all of Lahore under one roof, at Etihad Town, as they hosted the biggest food festival, which attracted people of all ages, as well as those from various walks of life. The three-day festivity brought together the best of the country’s cuisines along with soul-stirring music. It is certainly not an exaggeration to call it the best weekend one has enjoyed in a long time. The hype of the food festival was definitely the reason we too headed to the lit venue and trust us, it was the best decision we ever made. Lahore appeared like never before. The enticing aroma of yummy meals, upbeat music and thousands of excited faces were set to greet us as we entered the charged setting. As if that wasn’t enough, we also got to meet several of our favourite celebrities from Pakistan’s film, television and music industry. Sana Javed, Feroze Khan, Hania Amir, Azfar Rehman and Anoushey Ashraf were some of the many admired stars we were lucky enough to bump into. The food festival was brightened up with the sound of music and we, along with a huge crowd of more than 50,000 foodies and music lovers, couldn’t resist but groove to the tunes perfect for a dance off in the city’s most happening locale. The view of the festival left all the attendees overjoyed, as families and friends enjoyed their meals, clicked photographs and in short, had the best times of their lives. What became the highlight of the whole event was the grand line-up of more than 15 most-loved musicians of the country. The crowd went into frenzy as soon as
their favourite singers took to the stage to perform their favourite tunes. Sajjad Ali, Atif Aslam, Abrar-ulHaq, Josh, Call and Jal were among the many singing sensations that set the stage on fire with their energetic acts which managed to pull a massive crowd anticipating an entertaining time. Be it kids, youngsters or elders, everyone sang along to new and old songs alike. It was nothing short of an outstanding concert. As the three-day food festival came to an end, the organiser, 7UP surprised the crowd with an amazing display of fireworks. Not to exaggerate but with smartphones in our hands, we couldn’t help but capture the breath-taking view. The entire setup, decent crowd, loads of entertainment and the overall ambience made the event beyond perfect and there was nothing that did not go as planned. 7UP stuck to their words “Mana Lo Food Ka Love” and pulled off a food event Lahore had never witnessed before. We had a great time and just cannot stop gushing about the ceaseless fun we’ve had at the 7UP Foodies Festival. From yummy tikkas to scrumptious Lahori fish and from tasty continental to the good ol’ karahi, the food festival had something for everyone. If you weren’t there to witness this remarkable food festival in the city of gardens, then we’re sorry to break it to you that you may suffer from FOMO for missing three-days of food, fun and festivities. The 7UP Foodies Festival hangover is real because we’ve been suffering from one. So as we try to get over the entertainment-packed moments, we really hope that 7UP soon comes up with another round of Foodies Festival in other cities across Pakistan and sweep all the foodies off their feet with their signature food affair! 2019
