hum Aurtain The Aurat March was organised to mark the International Womenâ€™s Day on Friday, 8th March 2019. The participants marched to celebrate the womenâ€™s struggle and movement within Pakistan. This march is part of a series of peaceful marches across Pakistan. The marchers seek to express solidarity with women from across Pakistan to push for accountability and restorative justice against violence, standing with women who experience violence and harassment in the workplace, at home, in public spaces and at the hands of security forces!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? My name is Ivano and I am from Italy. I have been in this business for more than 20 years. Our area, the region we come from, is probably the most important in terms of the line of work we are in which is ceramics. Versace is a synonym of Italian excellence throughout the world, what would you like to say about the brand and about

the kind of workmanship the company possesses? It’s a tough job. We work in line with the headquarters of Versace in Milano, and I really have to say that they are very very tough in terms of brand image. They really take care about any and every development in the production process. They check the product positioning and they want to see every single item. And at the end, I have to say that they give a lot of importance to the cycle of life of every collection.

What is the process of making the entire collection? Does Versace give you the designs, how do you go about it? Well the collections change every year, they show new things, they keep updating their lines and it’s a must for us to keep up with the brand image of Versace, and follow their guidelines. So we try on our side to show and give materials following our ideas and obviously our technology, our capacity to do something with the product. But we follow Versace’s position, their

behavior, their ideas, and whatever they ask us to do regarding any single material one hundred percent. In your opinion, what sets you apart from your competitors? Well I can say there are a lot of good competitors with the brand of Gardenia at the medium-high level, and I think most of them are in the heart of Italy, and most of them are related to or are close to the design and style of the “Made In Italy” concept. Regarding Versace as a brand in our business, there is nothing similar. Because we are one of the only few companies to take on work with an ambitious fashion brand. Can you walk us through the production process and the “Made in Italy” philosophy behind your brand? The technology is available to everyone who obviously wants to and is able to invest money. On the other side I think it’s important to put your ideas and style ideas forward, and to create something new, that is not already in the market and everything that is on the paper to be realized on a product. So this is a very huge challenge. Because for sure the machines are able to produce traditional products, but to give and to show the best of the design and the “Made in Italy” concept behind the brand, in particular Versace’s design philosophy, it is very tough. How long does it take for a collection to be designed and produced? One year. We need that much time because it starts from the design, test, the color, the decoration so there’s a lot involved. So it takes a year for a collection to completely close from start to finish. What styles of ceramics and ceramic art does your company focus on? With the Versace brand, we try to recreate the best material we find in nature that is marble, wood and stone. While on the other side, we try to use color and decoration as much as possible just to still have traditional ceramic like many years ago. What do you see as design trends for the coming years? We have seen in the last few years a huge amount of minimal cement looking and wood looking tiles. In the meantime, there has been a huge development on different marble reproduction. I think that in the future a time will come for all the companies to take a step back, to build their own identity, and for all those companies that want to show to their customers that they are providing something different. How did you decide to launch your products in Pakistan? I started to come here five years ago, and we created good connections. We started some work in Karachi back in 2017, and then due to the relationships we had built, which is one of the most important things in any business, we decided to officially launch our products here and therefore started business. What would you say about the Pakistani market, and your target market here in Pakistan? Right now the target market for sure are the residential markets and these are people that want to invest in this product, and

want to show in their houses the “Made in Italy” style. It is those people that give a value to the product, and who have a clear vision of the material related to a brand. Then obviously we have to work on other projects, What is the forecast for the industry over the next couple of years? It will increase. The consumption and search for a good, high quality, top brand will increase more and more for sure. What is the biggest obstacle for your company to be present in the Pakistani market? Well there are many obstacles. If you see in 2019 there are a lot of situations, not due to us, not due to our company or our customers. But in general there are a lot of political situations that makes a market not so clear, Even if it is difficult, I am optimistic that business will increase for sure. Anything you would like to say about the Pakistani ceramics industry? Frankly speaking, I do not know much about the Pakistani ceramics industry. But what I do know is that the Pakistani industry has to try and increase the value of their product, and increase the image of the design and the level of quality so that they can come up to mark and compete with other companies from abroad.
