Making a mark for being an advocate of emerging talent in Pakistan, Bank Alfalah’s Rising Talent Programme continues to motivate, inspire and recognise young and upcoming talent in the country and provide them with opportunities to showcase their talent.

ank Alfalah has been supporting fashion bodies operating in the country, including the Fashion Pakistan Council as well as the Pakistan Fashion Design Council and has successfully managed to discover and support many talented young designers like Sakina Lotia, Hammad Sadiq, Akif Mehmood, Hasan Riaz, Hamza Bokhari, Ghulam Dastagir and Uzair Sardar. Now a name synonymous for supporting young talent in Fashion, the Bank Alfalah Rising Talent programme provides young fashion students and designers an oppor-

tunity to work alongside well renowned fashion designers. Introduced in 2014, the first of its kind “Rising Talent Award” provides a prestigious platform for the young designers to showcase their designs and also gives a cash award of Rs. 500,000 to the most talented designer aimed to help them in their entrepreneurial endeavors. This year at FPW 2016 four debut designers showcased their collection through Bank Alfalah Rising Talent platform. Syeda Urmia, Uzair Sardar, Shanza Jamil and Nida Sohail contended for the Award with Uzair Sardar emerging as the winner at FPW this year.

Bank Alfalah also partnered with Daraz.pk, and launched the first ever shoppable online fashion event, Bank Alfalah - Daraz Fashion Week . Aimed at bridging the gap between high-end fashion and everyday consumers in Pakistan, the groundbreaking initiative will significantly help the industry by not only providing the fashion fraternity with an online
platform to grow, but also promoting accessibility to their customers. The Bank Alfalah Rising Talent Hamza Bokhari was given the opportunity by Bank Alfalah to showcase his collection at the Bank Alfalah - Daraz Fashion Week alongside fashion heavyweights of the country. 2016

“A Dot That Went For A Walk,” Khadija Rahman’s debut collection for Generation, was a celebration of movement and form. The collection’s focus was on fabric, silhouette, layering and draping and reinvented basics like shalwars, & tunics. The collection was styled to perfection & Khadija impressed us with a very strong debut.
nida azwer ‘Kirigami’ was a quintessential Nida Azwer collection featuring her signature cuts and colour palette of grey, blue and white. The craft of Kirigami, a form of origami that includes the folding & cutting of paper, shone through with her pleated flared pants and cutwork embroidery. Trendy & wearable - we approve! 2016

zaheer abbas Zaheer Abbas wowed us with his ‘Basic’ collection which was a lesson in minimalistic chic. The designer has a knack for hitting all the right notes, with effortless styling, stunning outfits, trendy accessories ( flatforms) and the coolest hair (half up top knots) ‘Basic’ was hands down one of the best collections at FPW this year.
sonya battla Sonya Battla collaborated with textile and visual art students from Karachi University to create her experimental collection, ‘Identity’. The all-white collection was a work of art demonstrating the designer’s proficiency with structure and her commitment to original, creative design. The collection was simply extraordinary. 14

wardha saleem
Wardha Saleem’s collection was inspired by the vibrant culture and rich heritage of Pakistan. Taking strong historical influences from flora and fauna motifs with neon details, it was fresh & vibrant. Originally shown as a capsule at London Fashion Week, we loved the prints, quilting, bootleg pants, high-collared tunics and the beautifully painted finale dress. The bags were divine and the styling trendy (with socks paired with sandals). We are very happy to see such an amazing collection from Wardha and hope to see many more like this one!
gulabo Maheen Khan’s “I am Karachi” collection embodied the young, freespirited fashion forward women through its exotic prints and flowy fabrics. We were thrilled to see her contemporary take on the various cuts & loved that she paired her outfits with white peshawari chappals! The jewellery and styling by Aarij Hashmi added extra oomph to this fabulous collection. 2016

Winner of the Bank Alfalah Rising Talent segment Uzair Sardar collection was a brilliant showcase of innovative fashion. From safety pins, to birdcages, LED lights and plastic sheets and bottlecaps, Uzair Sardar’s creativy knows no limits. With a strong recycling concept and a great sense of design, he was able to develop aesthetically and conceptually strong pieces, This award was extremely well deserved and we wish him lots of luck for the future.
s han za j amil Shanza Jamil’s monochrome collection was a brilliant fusion of different fabrics, silhouettes and techniques. Inspired by Zaha Hadid’s architecture, Shanza’s collection uses organic shapes, interlocking zigzags, laser cutwork and contrasting colours. Slick hairstyles, minimal accessories and red lips made this collection really stand out. 16

Syeda Urmia Syeda Urmia’s debut collection made quite a statement. Monochramatic, dramatic and extremely experimental, Syeda Urmia’s command of layering and drapery is noteworthy. We loved that despite the exaggerated hemlines and layers of fabric, Urmia’s collection had a very fluid, summery vibe to it.
nida sohail Nida Sohail’s powerful collection took inspiration from a masquerade ball. The main colour of her collection was predominantly black, with strong gold accents. Showing a variety of cuts from jumpsuits to matching separates and floorlength gowns, Nida used the technique of foil screenprinting for added embellishment. Nida’s collection brought a lot of bling to the ramp.

This year Fashion Pakistan Week 2016 was better and bigger than ever before. Experimental collections, edgy styling and extremely cohesive collections hit the ramp. For three days straight, we saw brilliant fashion. Though the decisions were tough, and competition fierce, some of our favourites made the cut!

Nauman Arfeen’s show was full of surprises. It started with these adorable kids with skateboards & basketballs and followed with Amin Gulgee busting moves on the ramp.
Oh how we’ve missed the sultry Iman Ali on the runway. We were thrilled to see her shine as Zainab Chottani’s showstopper!

Who doesn’t love Syra Shehroz. The actress who is also the face of Al-Karam lawn made a lovely showstopper at their show.
HIGHLIGHTS
back to basics
Zaheer’s ‘Basic’ show was one of our favourites, with great outfits, styling, energy & suprises like Rubya holding a rooster (instead of a fancy poodle, with the idea of going back to basics) and of course Humaima Malick in all her glory. The same theme was applied to his giveaways- Imli & chilli chips! You really know how to win over our hearts Zaheer!

Ace event planner Aarij Hashmi created a fabulous capsule jewellery collection for the Gulabo show, molded with wires, screws, nuts & bolts. It’s definitely on our wish list!
