during the submission of nomination papers, Shah Mahmood and ahsan iqbal had a bitter exchange. ahsan iqbal told the pti leader that “you are no longer the foreign minister”. in reply to ahsan iqbal, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that you are addicted to power, you are not a candidate, please get out of the room. the nomination papers of joint opposition candidate Shehbaz Sharif and pti’s Qureshi have been approved for the prime minister’s election scheduled on Monday (today). pakistan Muslim league-nawaz (pMl-n) president Shehbaz Sharif and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi earlier submitted nomination papers for the election of prime minister following ouster of imran Khan. Khan had clung on for almost a week after a united opposition first tried to remove him, managing to put off the no-confidence vote, which he said was part of a foreign-backed plot against him, and dissolving parliament. but the Supreme court ordered national assembly to convene and hold the vote and Khan’s government fell in the early hours of Sunday after a 13hour session that included repeated delays and lengthy speeches by lawmakers from his party. the vote went ahead after the army chief, general Qamar Javed bajwa, met Khan, said two sources who declined to be identified, as criticism mounted over the delay in the process. opposition parties were able to secure 174 votes in the 342-member national assembly for the no-confidence motion, giving them the majority they needed. Khan has not commented publicly on his ouster but even before the vote, he called for protests.

Qamar Javed bajwa and pressuring the now-former prime minister imran Khan of allowing the vote of no-confidence to go ahead was “a pack of lies”. the story claimed “two uninvited guests” — presumably the army chief and his spymaster — who were armed with an extraordinary security detail reached prime Minister’s house via helicopter and held a 45minute “less than pleasant” private meeting with Khan. “Just an hour ago, Khan had given orders to remove one of the senior officials present for the meeting,” the story further claimed, without mentioning any names. it went on to say that the sudden arrival of the officials was “unexpected” for the former prime minister who was instead expecting the arrival of his “newly appointed officials” who were appointed in their place. however, the story alleged
the future strategy. chaudhry said the committee recommended to Khan the party should resign from the assemblies starting with the national assembly. “if our objections on Sharif’s nomination are not addressed then we will resign tomorrow,” he said. defending the decision to nominate the party’s vice chairman, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, for the office of prime minister after the vote of noconfidence, chaudhry said that contesting the election offered the party a way to challenge Sharif.
