ECURITY forced neutralized 92 terrorists of Indian proxy Finta al-Hindustan (FAH) while responding to multiple attacks across Balochistan while 18 civilians and 15 jawan embraced martyrdom in what Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi described as “Indian sponsored spate of attacks”, vowing the authorities would go after every single one of those involved and the “masters behind them”. In a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, “On 31 January 2026, #India sponsored terrorists Fitna al-Hindustan attempted to disturb the peace in #Balochistan, Pakistan, the terrorists carried out multiple attacks around Quetta, Mastung, Nushki, Dalbandin, Kharan, Panjgur, Tump, Gwadar and Pasni.” The statement said, “On behest of their foreign masters, these cowardly acts of terrorism were aimed at disrupting the lives of local populace and development of Balochistan by targeting innocent civilians in District Gwadar and Kharan, wherein, terrorists maliciously targeted 18 innocent civilians (including women, children, elderly and labours) who embraced Shahadat.” The security forces and the law en-
forcement agencies being fully alert immediately responded and successfully thwarted the evil design of terrorists displaying unwavering courage and professional excellence, it added. “Our valiant troops carried out engagement of terrorists with precision and after prolong, intense and daring clearance operation across Balochistan, sent ninety two (92) terrorists including three suicide bombers to hell, ensuring security and protection of local populace,” the ISPR said. “Tragically, during clearance operations and intense standoffs, 15 brave

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday emphasized the importance of regular and close coordination between Pakistan and Azerbaijan to achieve the shared goal of regional peace and security. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to further strengthen bilateral relations with the brotherly nation across all areas of mutual interest. Highlighting the growing economic partnership, the Prime Minister noted that both sides are close to finalizing a landmark agreement for a two-billion-dollar investment by Azerbaijan in Pakistan. He also reiterated his invitation to President Ilham Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at the earliest opportunity. Premier Shehbaz conveyed his warm greetings to President Ilham Aliyev and lauded his wise leadership, which has enhanced Azerbaijan’s global standing. An all-parties jirga convened at Bara Bazaar in Khyber district on Saturday called for immediate relief, rehabilitation and a clear return plan for tens of thousands of families displaced from the Tirah Valley amid disputed claims of a counterterrorism operation. Held under the auspices of the Khyber National Jirga, the gathering brought together leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUIF), Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), alongside tribal elders. Tribal elder Malik Mujeeb Khan said the evacuation from Tirah Valley followed negotiations with the chief minister, the corps commander of Peshawar and the IG Frontier Corps, adding that residents were relocated to clear the area of militancy. Jamaat-e-Islami’s district president Shah Faisal also described the displacement as forced. JUI-F General Secretary Syed Kabeer said the chief minister, as the province’s chief executive, bore responsibility for the relocation and peacekeeping. “Thousands of displaced families are living in dire conditions,” he said, urging immediate assistance. The federal government on Saturday termed the Khyber National Jirga a “charge sheet” against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, accusing it of poor governance, mismanagement and constructing what it called a “false narrative” over the situation in Tirah Valley. A jirga convened at Bara Bazaar in Khyber district under the banner of the Khyber National Jirga had called for immediate relief for families displaced from Tirah Valley and urged the federal government to present a plan for their return and rehabilitation. Jirga leaders said the evacuation had taken place on the orders of both provincial and federal authorities.

Speaking to a private television channel, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said the jirga went beyond demanding peace and relief and had levelled serious allegations against the KP government. He said the jirga concluded that the provincial administration was guilty of mismanagement and corruption and had failed to deliver for the people of Tirah. “This is a major charge sheet against the KP provincial government. The Rs4 billion allocated for relief, displacement, registration and assistance has no accountability,” Tarar said. He criticised PTI ministers and senior leaders, saying they remained busy with media appearances and political theatrics but were absent on the ground in Tirah Valley.

HSD price jumps Rs11.30 as govt keeps petrol rates unchanged ISLAMABAD

The federal government on Saturday increased the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs11.30 per litre, while leaving petrol prices unchanged for the next fortnight, a move likely to add inflationary pressure on transport and food costs. In a late-night notification, the Petroleum Division said the revised prices were determined in view of fluctuations in international oil markets and on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). According to the notification, the ex-depot price of high-speed diesel has been raised to Rs268.38 per litre from Rs257.08 per litre. Meanwhile, the ex-depot price of petrol has been maintained at Rs253.17 per litre. HSD is primarily used in heavy transport and the agricultural sector, including trucks, buses, trains, tractors, tube-wells and threshers. Due to its widespread use in freight movement and farming activities, an increase in diesel prices is widely seen as inflationary, often leading to higher transportation costs and a subsequent rise in the prices of essential commodities, particularly vegetables and other food items. Economists and market observers note that hikes in diesel prices typically have a cascading effect on the economy, as freight charges increase and are eventually passed on to consumers. The agriculture sector, which relies heavily on diesel-powered machinery and irrigation systems, is also expected to face higher input costs. In contrast, petrol prices were kept unchanged at Rs253.17 per litre. Petrol is mainly used in private transport, including cars, motorcycles, rickshaws and other small vehicles, and directly affects the daily expenses of middle- and lowermiddle-income households. By keeping petrol prices stable, the government appears to have sought to provide some relief to urban commuters and private vehicle owners.
