RIME MINISTER Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that Pakistan was steadily meeting its International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme commitments but urged the lender to take into account the devastation caused by recent floods in its upcoming review, acknowledging and lauding the IMF’s longstanding constructive partnership with Pakistan. “Pakistan was making steady progress towards meeting the various targets and commitments under the IMF
programme, but the severe impact of the recent floods on Pakistan’s economy must be factored into the IMF’s review,” a statement issued by the Press Information Department (PID) quoted the prime minister as saying. Premier Shehbaz Sharif expressed the views during a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He acknowledged and appreciated the IMF’s longstanding constructive partnership with Pakistan, which has strengthened under Georgieva’s leadership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday exchanged pleasantries with US President Donald Trump during the Arab-Islamic Summit in New York, where leaders from the United States, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) jointly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a comprehensive plan for its reconstruction. The brief interaction between PM Shehbaz and President Trump was marked by a warm handshake and candid conversation. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was also present. Officials described the exchange as cordial and reflective of Pakistan’s efforts to maintain constructive engagement with Washington. Prime Minister Shehbaz attended the Arab-Islamic Summit hosted by President Trump and the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. On the side-
lines, he also held separate meetings with Emir Sheikh Tamim, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, where leaders discussed regional issues and reaffirmed their commitment to joint cooperation. The summit, convened on the margins of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, was co-hosted by Trump and Sheikh Tamim. It brought together King Abdullah II, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Kamal Madbouly, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, among others. In a joint statement, leaders expressed deep alarm over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, terming the situation “unbearable” due to the rising human toll and its broader implications for regional stability and the Muslim world.

Dar urges Kabul to take ‘concrete and verifiable’ measures to curb terror groups NEW YORK

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday voiced Pakistan’s serious concerns over the presence of more than two dozen terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, urging the interim Afghan authorities to take “concrete and verifiable” measures to prevent cross-border terrorism, particularly against Pakistan. Addressing the inaugural meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan, Dar cited groups such as the Tehreek-eTaliban Pakistan (TTP), Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Majeed Brigade and East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), saying they were actively collaborating with Al-Qaeda and posed a grave threat to regional and international peace and security, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday.
“Our law enforcement officials and civilians continue to make enormous sacrifices due to terrorism emanating from Afghanistan. Earlier this month, 12 Pakistani soldiers were martyred in our bordering regions while combating TTP infiltrators,” the FO quoted the FM as

The Supreme Court has ruled that only the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) holds the authority to probe allegations of misconduct against judges of the apex and high courts, as Article 199(5) of the Constitution provides immunity to them for actions performed in their judicial and administrative capacities. The landmark ruling came in a detailed judgment authored by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and released on Wednesday in connection with contempt proceedings against Additional Registrar (Judicial) Nazar Abbas. A three-member bench had initiated contempt proceedings in January after Abbas allegedly failed to fix a case relating to the jurisdiction of regular benches. That case concerned whether regular benches could adjudicate the constitutionality of Article 191A of the Constitution, which created the Constitutional Bench following the 26th Amendment. The judgment reaffirmed that judicial immunity is vital to preserving the independence of the judiciary, a constitutional command under Article 2A (Objectives Resolution). It stressed that no judge of the Supreme Court or a high court can issue writs, directions, or contempt proceedings against another judge of the same court. “A judge of the superior court is not answerable to another judge of the same court,” the verdict stated, questioning how a judge could punish a fellow judge under Article 204(2) for contempt when constitutional protections explicitly prevent such action.

At least 13 terrorists belonging to Indian-proxy Finta alKhwarij were killed in a fire exchange with the security forces during intelligence-based operation (IBO) carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, the military’s media wing said in a statement on Wednesday. In a statement the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, “Security forces conducted the operation in the Daraban area, upon the reported presence of terrorists “belonging to Indian proxy, Fitna al-Khwarij.” The state uses the term Fitna al-Khwarij to refer to terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-iTaliban Pakistan (TTP). It has also designated Balochistan-based groups as Fitna al-Hindustan to highlight India’s alleged role in terrorism and destabilisation across Pakistan. “During the conduct of the operation, our own troops effectively engaged the khwarij location and as a result, 13 Indian sponsored khwarij were sent to hell,” the statement read. The ISPR added that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the dead terrorists, who were involved in terrorist activity in the area. The statement added that these terrorists were involved in “facilitation of a suicide bombing attack in Daraban in December 2023, the abduction and target killing of government officials and innocent civilians”. “A sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Indian sponsored kharji found in the area, as the security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of Indian sponsored terrorism from the country,” the statement concluded.
