Our Little Adventure at

When the leaves turned gold and the air grew thin, Thanksgiving arrived on the farm once again.

The animals buzzed with a thankful sigh, for Turkey was making his annual pie!

Turkey worked early, steady, and slow, with care in each step and a confident glow.

Mouse watched nearby, atop a small chair, as nutty, sweet scents swirled ’round in the air.

The pie was all finished and ready to bake. “Let’s have some tea,” Turkey said, “while we wait.”

But as the friends chattered and drank their tea down, the pie’s golden crust turned a dark shade of brown.

Mouse sniffed once or twice. “Oh dear, what’s that smell?” They took the pie out, then Turkey’s face fell.
“It’s ruined!” he cried. “It baked far too long!” He couldn’t believe he had read the time wrong.

But the day had grown late. Turkey’s cupboards were bare. With guests coming soon, there was no time to spare.

Then Mouse touched his wing. “We’re not alone. Let’s see what our friends might share from their homes.”

Cow brought some milk in a weathered old tin.

In rolled an egg, warm and fresh, from Hen.

The bees buzzed in swiftly from their hive nearby.
“A bit of our honey, to sweeten your pie!”
Each gift was given with hearts open wide as Turkey felt joy swell up deep inside.
“We’ve
done it,” said Turkey. “There’s just one thing more. Squirrel, can you share pecans, like before?”
