CANNED SALMON

We like to pack this smokey, salty, and creamy snack when we go hiking or camping. Sometimes I mix it with cream cheese and eat it between crackers like a PB&J sandwich.

HALIBUT

Their bellies are white and their backs look like the starry night sky. My dad once caught a halibut that was as big as me. It fed us for five dinners!

CHOWDER

My favorite food on a cold day is a big pot of hot, creamy chowder. I help chop carrots and potatoes. Sometimes we add smoked fish, shrimp, and clams. It’s yummy to dunk a piece of buttered bread into your bowl.

RHUBARB

Rhubarb stalks are red and their leaves are big and green. Sometimes I pretend the leaves are a hat! We cook the rhubarb and add it to a pie or make a sauce for pancakes for a sweet and tangy treat. Garden

SOURDOUGH PANCAKES

Sourdough starter is like a pet that lives in a jar. It’s bubbly and alive and we have to feed it sugar and flour. Ours is very old. My mom says it came from a gold miner! On the weekends, we make sourdough pancakes. I add blueberries or chocolate chips and help flip them with a spatula.
