BERRY PICKING

In the summer, salmonberries grow red, orange, and yellow. I pick them gently off the bushes. They are tasty to make into jam, or to eat off your fingers or in a bowl with milk and sugar.

TIDE POOLING

When the tide is low, I pull on my boots and go down to the beach. I peer into pools and watch tiny sea creatures living in their underwater homes. The seaweed is slippery, the sea stars are bumpy, and the octopuses hide under big rocks.

HIKING

I fill my backpack with water and snacks to keep me strong while I hike. If my legs get tired, I ride on my mom’s back and we pick the berries we find along the trail. We sing a loud song to let the bears know we are close. When we get to the top of the mountain, I stretch out my arms and feel the wind in my hair. We did it! Now, time to run back down.

CAMPING

My mom and dad pitch a tent and we get ready to spend the night outside. For dinner, we cook moose sausages. We roast marshmallows while we tell stories around the campfire. We look up and see the stars bright in the sky. In my sleeping bag, I feel like a caterpillar in a cozy cocoon. I fall asleep warm and snuggly. tent moon campfire sleeping bag

BIRD WATCHING

At the beach, I look for eagles, puffins, and gulls through my binoculars. In the spring and summer, I watch cranes dance and sing with the sparrows. In fall and winter, I watch geese and ducks fly in V’s, heading south. They are going to their warm-weather homes.
