George R. Moscone graduated from University of the Pacific in 1953 with a degree in sociology. He played basketball for the Tigers and was a brother in Rho Lambda Phi. Pacific awarded him an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1976 and posthumously inducted him into the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame in fall 1986. The University is proud to pay tribute to a man whose distinguished service in the California Senate and the San Francisco Mayor’s Office ushered in progressive reforms, broke historic barriers to minority participation in public office, and continues to benefit the people of our state.
