IT STARTED WITH A TEA CUP

The Richard Brendon brand was born from a fascination with food, drink and design — and a discovery on London’s Portobello Road. In 2009, while still at design school, Richard came across a market stall overflowing with “orphan saucers” — beautiful antique pieces missing their teacups. Learning from the dealer that teacups are far more likely to break, leaving behind stacks of these intricate saucers, Richard was inspired to give them a second life. The result, after much trial, error and dogged determination, was Reflect – a mirrored teacup that reflects the pattern of whatever saucer it is paired with, giving it a new life and companion.

Reflect was an immediate success, attracting attention from Liberty, Bergdorf Goodman, and Le Bon Marché. But the biggest win of all was that in creating Reflect, Richard had been introduced to the historic ceramics industry of Stoke-on-Trent. There, he met master craftspeople whose skill and knowledge had been passed down through generations. At its height in the 1980s, Stoke’s ceramics industry employed 50,000 people, but by the beginning of this century this figure was closer to 5,000. Struck by their artistry and dedication Richard saw an opportunity to revive this legacy while creating something new.

Handmade in Stoke-on-Trent — where Josiah Spode perfected the bone china formula in 1800 — our pieces are 30% stronger than porcelain and incredibly chip-resistant. White can form a complete service or mix seamlessly with any other Richard Brendon collection. These are our core shapes, designed to be contemporary yet timeless and held in stock for fast delivery of small orders. Line takes the brilliance of our pure white bone china and adds a splash of colour to create a refined, contemporary and timeless look. Designed for versatility, Line pieces break up patterns, add colour and create dynamic table settings, while still offering the ideal clean canvas for food presentation.

Available in five standard colours — Matte Black, Forest Green, Cobalt Blue, Burnt Orange and Gold — Line is as durable as it is elegant, making it the perfect choice for high-volume hospitality environments. For a bespoke touch, we can match Line in almost any ceramic colour from our library of over 350 shades. Custom production minimums apply (500 pieces), enabling you to create a completely tailored solution for your property or project.

OUR DESIGN HERITAGE – CUSTOMISABLE FOR YOU

Our Signature Collections showcase some of our favourite designs developed over the last decade with outstanding hotels, restaurants and private clubs in mind. Drawing on the history of British ceramics, the natural world, architecture and global design, each pattern has been crafted to deliver both beauty and practicality in a hospitality setting.

Every design in the Signature Collections can be customised to your project. With over 350 ceramic colours available, we can adjust palettes to fit your interiors, and many of the patterns are ideal for adding monograms, crests or branding. We have focused on a core range of shapes here but also maintain a more extensive library of additional shapes available at the end of this section. We can even develop these patterns across more shapes for larger projects.

Our Signature Collections can also be combined seamlessly with White or Line pieces to create a coherent yet distinctive tablescape.

DOUBLE LINE

DUAL ACCENT – MORE CHARACTER, SAME VERSATILITY

Building on our popular Line collection, Double Line adds a second hand-painted line, separated by a few millimetres. This simple change creates greater depth, character and authority — perfect for clients who want to retain a pared-back contemporary look while bringing more attention to the colour and detail of the china.

Available in six ceramic colours held in stock — Matte Black, Forest Green, Cobalt Blue, Burnt Orange, Pink and Gold — Double Line can also be produced in custom colourways. Colours can even be combined (for example Matte Black with Gold, or Burnt Orange with Cobalt Blue) for striking bespoke effects. As with Line, Double Line pairs seamlessly with the rest of the Richard Brendon collection and is ideal for branding or monogramming.

ARC

DECO GEOMETRY – TIMELESS IMPACT

Arc draws inspiration from one of the golden eras of British ceramics in the 1920s and 30s where Art Deco influence was rife. Inspired by renowned ceramic designers such as Susie Cooper and Clarice Cliff, Arc brings a Decoinspired but timeless design to the table, combining two colours. Arc works particularly well in one colour combined with Burnished Gold, but two colours can also work very well. We’ve shown Arc in Matte Black and Gold, which is our RB studio favourite. However, this pattern can be produced in any ceramic colour. Arc is precise, graphic and contemporary, setting a visually striking and sophisticated table.

A TIMELESS BAND WITH A MODERN EDGE

Border is a timeless design which can work in a vast array of settings. Rather than just having a solid coloured border, why not break the border with a fine gold or coloured line? This added detail elevates the design and adds a touch of modernity to a pattern which can also feel classical. Border works on rimmed plates where it fills the entire rim, as well as on coupe plates where the border is kept close to the edge of the plate. Like all of the collections in our Signature range, Border can be ordered in XX ceramic colours. Border also works really well for adding monograms.

GRADIENT

A BOLD FADE – FROM COLOUR TO WHITE

Gradient appeals equally to chefs and to interior designers. The colour starts intensely at the rim with a solid line of the chosen colour and then fades out in a gradient to pure white — bringing a real pop of colour when printed in bold colours or a much more subtle effect when printed in light colours and neutrals. It provides a good white surface for chefs to work on, yet offers a design that can incorporate any colour and bring real interest to any table. The accent pieces, the charger plate and the bread and butter plate, feature more pattern and more colour, whilst the plates that food will be plated onto have a large white surface. Gradient is available in any ceramic colour, allowing you to adapt it to your interior venue perfectly.

A FINE STRIPE – ENDLESSLY VERSATILE

Pinstripe is one of those designs that fits in any environment. Sophisticated, elegant, contemporary and timeless. The scale and the weight of the lines has been considered thoroughly, and it’s a design that works so well because of the attention to detail and execution. We particularly love it in Cobalt Blue and Best Burnished Gold, but it will work in whatever colour suits your interior. Pinstripe also has a certain nautical quality to it — reminiscent of a Breton stripe, albeit at a much finer line weight.

RADIAL

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON STRIPES

Radial is the sibling of Pinstripe. Some of the pieces are exactly the same, however Radial creates an entirely different effect on plates and flatware, with the fine stripes radiating outwards from the centre of the pieces. Radial is timeless and works in any colour and is a great choice for anyone looking for a range that will look good forever and will turn heads and have guests fall in love with it for its elegant design and attention to detail.

FRENCH HERITAGE, MODERN FEEL

Inspired by the classic French garment, characterised by its horizontal stripes. Originally the uniform for the French Navy starting in 1858, it gained popularity with sailors from the Brittany region and was later popularised in fashion by Coco Chanel in 1917. The design’s utilitarian origins, intended to make sailors easy to spot if they fell overboard, also made it a comfortable and stylish option for artists, writers, and eventually, became a beloved wardrobe staple for men and women worldwide.

Concentric is a pattern made up of fine concentric pinstripes. Concentric has a modern, timeless look and feel, and can be very bold in darker, brighter colours, or textural and subtle if printed in light colours, or even white with relief in the print. At the subtle end of the spectrum, it’s perfect for chefs who want a largely blank plate but with more interest. In a bright colour, it can make a real statement, while still providing a white surface for chefs to plate food onto.

This clean and contemporary design features a single fine line but unlike Line or Double Line, the line moves to the centre of rimmed plates, is indented from the edge of coupe plates and comes down from the rim of cups, creating a chic, contemporary and timeless effect reminiscent of outstanding bistros and grills worldwide.

Perfect for monogramming or branding, the line can be broken at 12 o’clock or 6 o’clock to accommodate a crest or logo without disrupting the design.

LACE-INSPIRED BORDERS –TIMELESS CRAFTSMANSHIP)

Dentelle takes its name from the French word for lace and shares its roots with dent, meaning “tooth” — the origin of the classical dentil motif. Inspired by both architectural dentils and delicate dentelle, the collection reinterprets these timeless patterns as solid scalloped edges and intricate lace-like borders. First seen on 18th-century French and Georgian British ceramics, this border was traditionally used to frame and elevate the finest porcelain and bone china. The design is especially striking in burnished gold yet adapts beautifully to a wide array of colours.

A meander pattern — also known as the Greek Key — is a continuous, repeated, geometric design formed from a single unbroken line. Our design process:

• Brief generation — working closely with you, we establish a clear brief

• Initial concepts — we explore several creative directions based on your brief

• Select concept to develop — you choose your preferred direction for development — a deposit is required before this stage (nonrefundable if the project does not proceed)

• Design development

• Further design refinement — we refine and finalise your chosen concept

• Sampling — physical samples are produced and charged accordingly (the cost being deducted from the refunded deposit)
