The City of Owen Sound continues to advocate for fairness and funding stability for shared and cross-jurisdictional priorities.
The recommendations included in our 2026 Ontario pre-budget submission include protecting rural-serving college campuses such as Georgian College's Owen Sound campus with stabilization funding and a long-term funding formula aligned to rural delivery realities; promoting fairness in police funding with targeted financial assistance to offset costs incurred as a result of compliance with the Community Safety and Policing Act and the provision of court security by community police services; ensuring equitable access to digital resources for rural communities by establishing an Ontario Digital Public Library and targeted funding to support libraries; and, reducing the impact of omnibus legislation on small and rural municipalities to ensure meaningful participation by municipal partners and in support of our shared vision of a competitive, dynamic, and innovative economy.
