THE MEADOW IS OPEN!
Although working around heavy storms had its challenges, and it took longer than expected, we are elated to announce that the Ojai Meadows Preserve is now open. All the major earthwork is done – and the trees and wildflowers are in bloom – so come on out and enjoy the preserve. Come see the new lazy creeks, duck pond, and the bountiful wildlife. Despite three months without rain, Maricopa Creek is hopping with toads, frogs and birds. Such an influx of new wildlife species has been seen since the project began that we’ve begun a list to keep track of them all! We hope the community will help keep the list up to date. Please email or call us with your wildlife sighting and/or photos so we can be sure they are included on our list.

Community Dedication We hope you’ll join us for a public dedication of the Ojai Meadows Preserve to the community on Tuesday, June 17th at 10am. Let your government officials know how much we appreciate that Ojai has such a treasure for us and our children — and their children, for generations to come. Meet at the Maricopa Highway entrance of the Ojai Meadows Preserve.
OVLC Members and Friends Picnic
Take A Tour Bring your friends and family out for an interpretive tour of the project. Learn about the major changes and unique history of the preserve and catch a glimpse of some of our newest wildlife residents on one of our guided tours. Please call 649-6852 or send an email to ovlc@ovlc.org to let us know when you would like to take a tour. Trained docents are standing by and have already led 15 tours in the first month!
On Saturday, June 21st, OVLC members, friends and neighbors will celebrate together at the annual OVLC Members and Friends picnic which will be held on the Ojai Meadows Preserve. Enjoy an early evening picnic with Land Conservancy friends and neighbors to celebrate the opening of the meadow. We’ll be leading interpretive tours throughout the event, feast on good food and wine, and watch the sunset on the Topa Topa mountains. This promises to be a summer evening to remember. We hope you’ll join us. See page 3 for more information.
