April is a month of national recognition for libraries, including Right to Read Day and National Library Week, among many others. At Solivita, our cozy community library sits in the heart of the Village Center and is available for all residents to enjoy. The library operates on the honor system and is thoughtfully organized and maintained by dedicated resident volunteers—many of whom are retired librarians.

BY JANA MALIK DIRECTOR OF ACTIVITIES
Did you know Solivita has its own cozy library in the heart of the Village Center, across the street from Mosaics? Originally located in the Gator Room, the Library is currently located in what was formerly the Computer Room. The Computer Room held eight computers and a printer for resident use at no charge.
As more people were buying their own home computers and smart cell phones were becoming almost equal to a computer, the facilities were re-evaluated for current needs. Combining the Library with the Computer Room allowed us to turn the old Library into the current Gator Room, thus adding a muchneeded multi-purpose venue.
Since its inception, the Library has and continues to operate on an honor book borrowing system. The organization, upkeep and care are in the careful hands of a dedicated team of volunteers, many of whom are retired librarians.

They schedule volunteers on a weekly basis whose duties shelving returned books, labeling donated books, removing books 10 years or older, and reporting any issues to the management team.
What’s new and in the library aside from the books? We are thrilled to have recently partnered with Polk County Library Outreach Services who has donated books to our library and will also lend some of their books one to two times per month.
Make sure to return Solivita and Polk County books back into their respective bins. Our Library has three computers (assistance not provided), a printer, a puzzle table, magazines and a seating area.
Celebrate the multitude of National Library Reading Days in our very own Solivita Library and thank the library volunteers.

Sign-up to volunteer for June 2026 Activities Events (including the Juneteenth Parade & Street Party) will be available starting on Friday, April 3rd at 9am in the Activities Office hallway.

BY JOJO DE LOS SANTOS FITNESS DIRECTOR
As we move into spring, it’s the perfect time to reset, refocus, and recommit to our health. While many people think of cardio first, the real key to aging well is strength.
After the age of 50, we naturally begin to lose muscle mass — and with that comes decreased balance, slower metabolism, and a higher risk of falls and injury. The good news? Muscle loss is not just a part of aging we have to accept. With consistent strength training, we can rebuild, maintain independence, and continue doing the things we love.
Strength training isn’t about lifting heavy weights or “bulking up.” It’s about protecting your joints, improving bone density, supporting posture, and staying steady on your feet. It helps with everyday activities — getting up from a chair, carrying groceries, and always taking the stairs, it plays a major role in long-term mobility.
The HOA, Security, and Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each week from residents. The Sheriff’s Office has been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement. Receiving a speeding ticket is financially costly and can lead to more serious results.
Wednesday, April 29th • 8am • Ballroom
Newsletter volunteers are needed and will be assisting with: Bagging (8am); Labeling (8:30am); and Delivery (Starting at 9:30am). Delivery volunteers are asked not to leave the Ballroom until all neighborhoods have been completely assembled If you do not receive your newsletter by Thursday, April 30th you’ll need to pick a copy up at the Club Concierge Desk in the Admin Building (formerly the Welcome Center) between 9am-5pm.
This season, I encourage you to make strength part of your weekly routine. Whether it’s joining a class like Fit Body Circuit, balls and bands, ultimate fitness fusion, or incorporating resistance into your current workouts, showing up consistently is what makes the difference.
For those who are unsure where to start or want a structured, personalized plan, our Fast Track program is designed to safely guide you through proper form, equipment use, and goal setting.
It’s a great way to build confidence while creating a foundation that supports everything else you do.
Spring is about growth. Let’s use this season as motivation to build strength that carries us through the year ahead. Stronger muscles mean better balance, better energy, and better quality of life. Let’s spring into strength — together.

BY BOB MONICA CHAIR, SOLIVITA CONSERVATION & WILDLIFE COMMITTEE
Most of us moved to Solivita for the sunshine, as well as easy access to beaches and Disney World. Our home in Central Florida is a humid, tropical weather zone with Solivita located at the apex of the Florida Watershed System flowing to the Okeechobee River and the Everglades. Solivita is also the natural habitat for a more exotic array of wildlife than what we left behind. As a conservation friendly community, we embrace this difference, making required adjustments, balancing resident safety with wildlife protection.
Alligators are part of the natural balance in our tropical community. Their presence plays an important role in our ecological system. However, they are also dangerous predators. So, your HOA Board of Directors advises extreme caution in dealing with them. The months of April, May and June are Alligator Mating Season. Males move from pond to pond to wetlands, in search of a mate. Females travels are similar, searching for an appropriate nesting area. This is a time for all of us to remain alert and cautious pertaining to the potential presence of gators.
This natural phenomenon is not a reason for panic. Remain alert and calm, giving any gator you may encounter at least thirty feet of space to guarantee your safety. Keep in mind that alligators are often waylaid in their search for a new domicile. Street traffic and other elements cause them to lose their way. This can result in alligator encounters on sidewalks, lawns, and driveways. If that occurs, stay indoors, keep your doors locked and remain calm. Given time, gators adjust and continue their natural path.
Remember to keep your garage and lanai doors closed when not in use. An open door is an invitation for an unwanted visitor. Be smart – lock them out BEFORE they arrive. Always remember that it is dangerous and unlawful to feed an alligator. Feeding will cause alligators to consider humans as a source of food. This leads to aggressive behavior and, too often, tragedy. Please, NEVER FEED AN ALLIGATOR
If you previously lived in an urban location with heavy automobile traffic you were required to learn basic safety rules before crossing the street. Calling Central Florida home requires a working knowledge of a few simple wildlife safety rules. We encourage you read them over and incorporate them into your Solivita routine. Have a happy and safe spring season!
