Solivita
The Veterans Club established this project to display a U.S. Flag in front of every home in Solivita to recognize and celebrate selected holidays throughout the year. The club assigns a representative to place a 3’ x 5’ U.S. Flag in front of their home, in a designated location, throughout the year (Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day through 9/11, and Veterans Day). Applications are available and can be printed from SolivitaHOA.com (under Veterans Club), on www. veteransclubofsolivita.com, or you may pick up a copy at the Concierge Desk. Applications, along with your $25 check (made out to VCS), can be mailed to Veterans Club of Solivita, P.O. Box 581770, Poinciana, FL 34758. If you would like to volunteer or you have any questions, email flagsoversolivita@gmail.com or call 863-512-3655.

Signs & Flags: HOA Reminders
By Rudy Bautista, LCAM Solivita Community Association Manager As our nation’s general election nears, I have been receiving various calls about what is allowed and what isn’t. Below I have listed Section 21.41 Signs & Flags of Solivita’s Master Declaration and Bylaws, that clearly describes this in detail for us to follow. Please remember that the job of my Compliance Department Team and myself is to enforce and follow our Master Declaration and Bylaws. If at any time you get a letter or a notice that you feel isn’t appropriate, please reach out directly to my Compliance Team or myself.
thereof being first had and obtained from the ACC as required by this Master Declaration. Developer and Builders are exempt from this Section.
Basically, the only type of flags that is allowed without approval to be flown is the United States of America, State of Florida, United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or a POW-MIA official flags. Keep in mind that it needs to be the official flag, which is to be displayed and must be in a respectful manner. Again, if you want to display or install anything outside your home please reach out to us first so that you may be clear on what is allowed or isn’t. Have a blessed month and please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
21.41 Signs & Flags
No sign (including brokerage or for sale/lease signs), flag, banner, sculpture, fountain, outdoor play equipment, solar equipment, artificial vegetation, sports equipment, advertisement, notice or other lettering shall be exhibited, displayed, inscribed, painted or affixed in or upon any portion of Solivita that is visible from the outside without the prior written approval thereof being first had and obtained from the ACC as required by this Master Declaration; provided, however, signs required by governmental agencies and approved by the ACC may be displayed (e.g., permit boards); and further provided that not signs posted by the PCDD or the PWCDD shall be subject to this section. Political Campaign Signs must be approved by the ACC prior to displaying the sign at the Home. After approval each home may display one (1) political campaign sign in a window of the Home and such sign must be removed the week after the campaign is concluded. No lawn ornament, fountain, solar equipment, artificial vegetation, shall be placed in or upon any part of a Home that is visible from the outside without the prior written approval

American Flags: Any homeowner may erect a freestanding flagpole no more than 20 feet high on any portion of the homeowner’s real property, as long as the flagpole does not obstruct sightlines at intersections and is not erected within or upon an easement. The homeowner may further display in a respectful manner from that flagpole, one official United States flag, not larger than 4 1/2 feet by 6 feet, and may additionally display one official flag of the State of Florida or the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, or a POW-MIA flag. Such additional flag must be equal in size to or smaller than the United States flag. The flagpole and display are subject to all building codes, zoning setbacks, and other applicable governmental regulations, including, but not limited to, noise and lighting ordinances in the county or municipality in which the flagpole is erected and all setback and locational criteria contained in the governing documents. In addition, notwithstanding the foregoing, no ACC approval is necessary for the installation of an American flag, up to two feet (2’) by four feet (4’) in size, posted on a three foot (3’) pole and attached at a forty-five (45) degree angle from the Home. ARC Applications
By Tinisha Ramos Compliance Coordinator (Architectural) As many new homeowners move into Solivita, we would like to simply remind you that any changes made to the outside of the home requires prior Architectural Review Committee (ARC) approval. The ARC is part of the Association and maintains the standards established in the governing documents to help protect property values. As you inquire about what kind of documents or what additional information is needed when submitting your application, let me help by going over the most common ARC application requests we receive and what you will need to provide upon submitting.
and third Monday of every month (except for reserved holidays). Your request must be submitted no later than 4:30pm on the Wednesday prior to the meeting. Please keep this in mind when turning in an application for approval and wanting to know the outcome of such.
Although each ARC application is unique, the most common are repainting your home, landscaping, screen enclosures, fences, yard art, wall art, and extending of the walkway, just to name a few. You will need to provide the following (as needed): • Property survey (fences, pools, extending a screen enclosure, new landscape beds, curbing, extending walkways and any additions) • Picture showing color, dimensions, location, types of plants, flowers, yard art, etc. • Proposal with specifications from the vendor completing the work
However, if you have signed up for the Vantaca Homeowner site and included your email, an email with the outcome will be sent from Evergreen Lifestyles Management. You can also view your ARC application request outcome in the Vantaca portal on the Owner Dashboard main page, which will include the information shown on the example screenshot below, under “Open Issues.”
Architectural Process
According to the Solivita Architectural Review Requirements (Page 6, Section 5.6), the HOA has up to 30 days to process an application.
It’s understandable that many homeowners want to know the outcome the same day that the meeting takes place, but unfortunately there is a process to follow. ARC applications are first recorded in the system, then letters are generated and mailed to the mailing address on file.
In order to access this information, log on to portal.evergreenLM.com/Home/Login. If you have any issues signing into this portal, please feel free to contact our Solivita Administrative Assistant Raj at 863-427-7124 or by email at rhanooman@ evergreen-LM.com and she will be able to assist with your log in.
Political Campaign Signs
Section 21.41 Political campaign signs must be approved by the Subsequently, because of the large volume of ARC applications submitted, the Architectural Review Meetings are held the first

Yard of the Month Our judges took a stroll through Venezia this month to choose our latest Yard of the Month. They chose the lovely front yard of Andree Hall who resides at 653 Grand Canal Drive and keeps her landscape looking beautiful 365 days a year. Gardening is a perfect past time during the pandemic when social distancing and self-quarantining, and very rewarding when others acknowledge your hard work. Please remember to do your yard work in the early morning or evening when the heat of the day is not as suffocating. Who will be our next Yard of the Month? Congratulations Andree!

Reducing Contact at Retailers and Restaurants To help you deal with the “safer at home” environment, the Resident to Resident Resource Center has compiled a guide and fact sheets about different options available to reduce your exposure at retailers and restaurants. The information provides details about delivery and curbside pickup, and how to use each effectively. The following are some points to remember.
to see if they also offer delivery. Some charge a small fee and for some delivery is free. • The home delivery environment (whether for stores or restaurants) is fluid. Because of skyrocketing demand, many services have “deals” that involve incentives such as free delivery, discounts, “subscriptions,” etc. This changes constantly, so check before ordering. • Some establishments may request or even mandate you pay in advance with a credit card. If you are comfortable with this, it’s generally a good idea since it minimizes contact with the delivery person. • Regardless of how your order is delivered, tipping the delivery person (usually 10-20%) is appropriate. In most cases, you can include the tip on your credit card when you order. • Register your visitor (delivery) online to ensure gate security is aware of the delivery.
Delivery
• Most local stores and restaurants use an independent service for home delivery. • For grocery stores, such as Publix and Aldi, Instacart is the independent service used. Instacart charges a fee and most stores have a minimum order to qualify for home delivery.
Curbside Pick-Up
• Picking up your food or merchandise in the parking lot is virtually as safe as having it delivered. Order on the website or by phone and drive to the store. Simply pop your trunk, notify the store you have arrived, and an employee will deliver your purchases to your car. Tipping is suggested,
• Restaurant delivery services include: Uber Eats, GrubHub and DoorDash. You can access this service either through a delivery service website, phone, or through the restaurant itself. There may or may not be a charge to the consumer during the current sheltering environment. Not all services are available to Solivita. • A few restaurants offer their own delivery service (ex. LeMay’s Pizza and IHOP). Contact other local businesses

Resource Center article continued from page 14 (although not mandated) so you may want to leave an envelope with a gratuity in your trunk as a thank-you. There is generally no minimum purchase for curbside pick-up. In addition to being an efficient way to get what you need, it is usually a good idea to get out of the house regularly, even if it is just a drive to Publix. • Again, paying in advance by credit card is recommended by most establishments.
Grab-and-Go
While you may not feel comfortable eating out in a restaurant, and might not be crazy about the idea of having a stranger deliver your food, almost all restaurants in the area (including Solivita’s Stonegate Grille) offer take-out service. Don’t be afraid to call the restaurant in advance to ask about their guidelines and what they are doing to keep you safe. Some may ask that you stay in your car until they text you that your order is ready, others may bring your food out to your car to avoid going into the restaurant at all.
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME Daylight Saving Time officially ends on Sunday, November 1st at 2am. Don’t forget to set your clocks BACK one (1) hour before you go to bed on Saturday night, October 31st!

And while it isn’t gourmet dining, this area has a seemingly endless supply of drive-through fast food restaurants. It is generally a safe and convenient way to get a break from cooking.

Autumn Days in Solivita
By Brad Thompson Branch Manager, Floralawn We officially hit the Fall season a few weeks ago, and cooler days are in sight! Floralawn landscaping crews are always happy for the reprieve from summer’s heat. We are still busy keeping resident and common-area landscaping looking beautiful and it’s nice to experience milder temps while we execute all the necessary tasks.
Fertilization
October brings our second granular application to set up the turf for fall and winter months. This month we will also be applying a community wide herbicide for the turf.
clumps that grow down the middle of Solivita Boulevard and in other places throughout the community. In later October, you’ll see Floralawn crews pruning these clumps.
Monitoring Turf for Brown Patch Fungus
Brown Patch Fungus is one of Central Florida’s fall turf afflictions that we watch out for. Fall days with cooler temps and longer nights see more moisture staying on turf. When grass stays moist for prolonged periods, it creates a perfect environment for the growth of brown patch fungus. Turf with brown patch fungus turns yellowish and then brown. The discoloration happens in a roundish shape, giving the fungus its name “brown patch.” Brown patch fungus has an affinity for St. Augustine grass, which is the turf species that grows throughout Solivita. For this reason, we keep a close eye on the grass throughout Solivita, quickly treating affected areas with fungicide.
Questions?
If you have any landscaping or turf-related questions or concerns, feel free to drop by our office in the Administration Building in the Village, or call us at 863-225-9565. We’ll do our best to answer your questions. Enjoy these beautiful cooler days!
Cool-Season Irrigation and Mowing Changes
Watch out for sprinkler action soon. We turn most of Solivita’s sprinklers off over the summer because Mother Nature provides adequate rainfall for the community’s plants and turf. However, once the daily rains drop off, we will turn the irrigation system back on. We’re also coming to the time of year when grass growth slows way down. You will continue to see mowing crews providing weekly service this month, but on October 30th, we’ll switch to a bi-weekly mowing schedule.
Fakahatchee Pruning
Fakahatchee is the name of the large native ornamental grass

What is CERT? CERT wants YOU! Submitted by the Solivita CERT Team
Your Solivita Community Emergency Response Team is a volunteer group of residents like you. Since county services might not be available for several hours to a few days after a major disaster (weatherrelated, man-made or terrorist-originated), CERT was created to respond in communities like Solivita. CERT performs initial damage assessment and rescues individuals and performs triage and light first aid. Solivita CERT is organized under Polk County Fire Rescue and falls under the Citizens Corps division of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. When activated we report to the county Emergency Operations Center and coordinate with Taylor Morrison, Evergreen Lifestyles Management and Vital Security. CERT training is free from the county and covers search and rescue, hazard assessment, victim extrication, medical triage and treatment, fire suppression, and psychology of disasters, all the while maintaining the safety of our members. You needn’t be experienced in these topics, because you will be trained (as all of us have been). We currently have women and couples among our 80+ members. When a new member completes his/her training they receive a “go-bag,” a backpack with self-protection items (e.g., hardhat, goggles, gloves), flashlight, utility shut-off tool, reflective vest and a variety of medical supplies.
Reflections | October 2020 |
We try to encourage disaster preparedness of our residents— planning your response to a disaster in advance. This includes maintaining a disaster kit and knowing what to do when a disaster occurs. To accomplish this we do the following: • Make presentations for various clubs at Solivita • Sponsor an annual hurricane preparedness Coffee Talk (usually in June) • Distribute preparedness handouts via the Concierge (and our CERT club webpage on SolivitaHOA.com) • Provide tips (like this) in Reflections • Run a smoke detector battery replacement program every March and April • Sponsor free chest compression-only CPR and AED training class for residents • Lend medical equipment to residents (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.) with the Resident to Resident Resource Center (R2R) • Conduct crowd and traffic management in Solivita for major events here with our highly visible vests and hats. We would like to have many more members to adequately cover our community quickly in case of a disaster. Join us and become part of a true service organization right here in Solivita. Our meetings are on the first Monday every month at 7pm in RSF2 and open to everyone. For more information, see the CERT club webpage on SolivitaHOA.com > Get Connected > Clubs, or call Wayne at 863-514-6728.

Solivita Heroes of Breast Cancer By Susie Quattrochi Relay For Life Event Lead
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to wear pink ribbons and build solidarity with all of us who have endured breast cancer journeys. Equally important, October 16th is National Mammography Day. This is a day women in their twilight years need to not only recognize, but discuss the topic with their doctors. One out of every three women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), breast cancer is the most common cancer among elderly women. ACS statistics indicate that about half of the 275,000 newly diagnosed breast cancer cases every year come from women over the age of 60, and another 20 percent come from women over 70 years old. Throughout this article, I have shared the words of some strong Solivita women who have experienced Breast Cancer. Even while going through Stage 4 colorectal cancer, I went for my yearly mammogram. It detected ductal cancer which I would have never felt with a self-exam. Due to the fact that I did not put off my mammogram, this cancer was caught early! We are just a few of the Solivita Heroes of Breast Cancer, and we’re determined to promote the IMPORTANCE OF MAMMOGRAMS.
Loretta Richardson
I am a three-time survivor due to an early diagnosis 20 years ago, 10 years ago, and again this year with different types of breast cancer. The key to survival from breast cancer is early detection through yearly mammograms. Just because you don’t feel a lump doesn’t mean you don’t have one. Be pro-active at every age!
Teresa Krogh-Hansen
It was just my annual mammogram but this time there was something new and it was not good. I ultimately had a lumpectomy, plus the removal of 30 lymph nodes. I continue with my yearly mammograms and encourage my daughters and friends to do the same.

Lynne Delancey
My mother had breast cancer, so I was religious about getting mammograms. At 70, I was a bit blasé about it, thinking I had beaten it. But this time it was positive. I had a lumpectomy and was advised that no further treatment was needed except for a hormone pill for 5 years. It was a wake-up call for me. The diagnosis was motivation for me to begin to live with gusto.
Margaret Bush
There is an increasing pool of long-term survivors and the mortality rate from breast cancer continues to fall. If you have any questions, you can call the American Cancer Society, anytime day or night 7 days a week, at 1-800-227-2345 and a trained specialist will help you.
Christine Jefferys
Every mammogram is vitally important! Finding cancer is not a death sentence. They are finding new treatments every day. Your body will tell you if something is not right.
Mary Redman
Due to fibrocystic breasts, I have faithfully had a diagnostic mammogram every year. All three of my cancers were found by mammograms. Through yearly mammograms, monthly selfexams, and body awareness, breast cancer can be detected early. Join us in supporting the Awareness of Breast Cancer by wearing a pink ribbon throughout October. Have you had your Mammogram yet? For more information and support, contact the Solivita Cancer Support Group and visit www.breastcancer.org.

What is the Neighborhood Captain’s Program?
Articles
The purpose of the Neighborhood Captain’s Program (NCP) is much more than just fostering a sense of community within each neighborhood. Yes, it does assist in the transition process from being a resident to becoming a neighbor, building friendships, and planning social events. However, did you know ... the NCP serves as a conduit between a Neighborhood, the HOA and Solivita Club/Lifestyles Activities functioning as a voice to effectively address and resolve a multitude of neighborhood related issues. The program empowers neighborhoods to become more involved in the future of their communities.
