Welcome to the New Year!
By Rudy Bautista, LCAM Solivita Community Association Manager What a year 2020 was for us all! Aren’t we glad it has passed and it’s 2021?! If you’re like me, I’m sure you would like to press reset and start off this new year as 2020 instead of 2021. With all the overwhelming changes due to COVID, and having to adapt to restrictions everywhere, it was a stressful year indeed.
strong united family is the best support system we have during uncertain times. Knowing you have others that will help carry the weight placed on your shoulders makes taking on new challenges that life throws at us a little easier. From our family to yours, wishing you a Brighter, Happier New Year!
With that said, I am the type of person that likes to see the lighter side of what the past year brought us, as well as how it affected us professionally and in our personal lives. I would like to thank all of my staff, which I consider my second family, for the hard work they have put in and for making Solivita such a great community. I would also like to thank you, Solivita, for all the support you have given my staff and myself. This only encourages us to strive and do better by raising the bar we set every day when we come in through the Solivita gates. Regarding my personal life, this year has reminded me how important family is. It has proven to me, more than ever, that a

Bring it on 2021!
By Jana Malik Director of Activities 2020 was an interesting challenge for everyone, including the Activities department. With continued uncertainty for 2021, we are planning many creative events that are mainly outdoors to keep you entertained while adhering to safety practices, until things get back to a bit more normal. Towards the end of 2021, we hope to celebrate some big milestones including Solivita’s 21st Roaring Birthday Party on October 9th and the 20th Annual Fall Arts and Crafts Festival on November 6th. Be sure to check the back of every Reflections’ newsletter calendar to read all the upcoming events.

2021 Solivita Car Show
2021 Dog Park Registration
Last year, COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the 2020 Car Show the day before the event was to be held. The Car Show Committee and Activities have decided that the 2021 Solivita Car Show will be limited to only resident cars and resident attendees. This year, we may change the way the awards will be distributed. We are also talking about ending the show with a car parade that will go through select main roads in the community just like the recent Holiday Parade. We are confident that we can have an exquisite car show for everyone to enjoy seeing. Stay tuned for

We had increased the checkout time from 10 minutes to the max allowed of 20 minutes. A new thing we are adjusting and making simpler is the questionnaire at the checkout. We will only ask for the resident attendee names and phone numbers for whom you are purchasing tickets for. At this time, events and classes are for residents only.
Mardi Gras Parade and Party – UPDATES This year’s Mardi Gras event will look different in many ways, from the parade route, the bead throwing, the event location, club involvement, the dance and the seating areas, but we will still present a grand ‘ol time while practicing safety guidelines. From the World of Fitness & Wellness By Jamar Edge Director of Fitness & Wellness It’s the New Year and I’m happy to welcome in 2021!!! I know you’ve made resolutions and I hope that spending more time engaged in Fitness and Wellness activities are near the
top of the list. With the incoming New Year, I would like to introduce you to the Solivita FitWell Committee. We’ve added two new members to the team, so I’d like to offer an extended welcome to Tony Spinelli and Patricia Perry! The following are quick bios about your Solivita FitWell Committee Members.
Francisco Castro, Jr.
Steve Gambino (Committee Chair) Steve Gambino retired from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2017 as the Director of Campus Recreation and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. He has a Doctor of Education in Recreation and Leisure Studies, a Master of Education in Recreation Administration Steve Gambino from Temple University, and a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from East Stroudsburg University. He has been in the field of recreational sports and academia for over 40 years. He is a native Philadelphian, who grew up loving their professional sports teams. He actually played a football game in Franklin Field when he was 12, after the Eagles played the Atlanta Falcons. His passions are playing hardball, softball, basketball, working out, reading and, of course, watching the Phillies, Eagles, Sixers and Flyers. Steve and his wife Kathy moved to Solivita in February of 2017. They have three sons. Their oldest son Stephen, his wife Leigha and son Brooks (a year old in July) live in Glenside, PA, outside Philadelphia. years and is originally from New York. She retired from a 30 year career in the New York State Courts. Carrie has always had an interest in health and fitness. Being a person dealing with hypertension, health is a very important issue for her. Exercise is the best way to shake up those endorphins to help your body feel good. While her preference is weight lifting, she does enjoy the plethora of classes Solivita has to offer. Carrie states that she must admit that she does sometimes wish there was an exercise pill that she could take, but until that happens, she will continue to work out.

Francisco Castro, Jr.
Francisco was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and has been a Solivita resident for 10 ½ years. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces and retired after 26 years of service to our country. In his past, he has played organized baseball, softball and racquetball. As resident of Solivita, Francisco enjoys weight lifting, biking, and attending fitness classes, which include Yoga, Muscle Conditioning and Express Total Body Sculpt.
Patricia Perry Patricia moved to Solivita in 2016 with her mother from a small town south of Lake Wales. She spent 34 years as a social studies/humanities teacher in Massachusetts and Florida. In Massachusetts she spent a couple of Patricia Perry seasons coaching JV softball. Yard of the Month
Our judges had a tough time choosing this month’s Yard. The Lago Vista area has so many homes with beautiful yards - any one of them could have easily garnered Yard of the Month. After bringing in some Green Thumbs experts, the decision was made. We want to congratulate Andy and Penny Liedholm at 509 Catania Lane for being chosen as this month’s Yard of the Month. The coronavirus pandemic is a concern for all of us. Please take time to enjoy the cooler weather, work in the garden, practice social distancing and be safe. Happy New Year!
Please join me in thanking them for serving the community! The FitWell Committee can be reached at WellnessCommittee@ SolivitaHOA.com.
Gym Etiquette For those new to the gym or those of you who are frequents at the facilities, I want to highlight a few things to remember and adhere to as it relates to the facilities. • Remember to clean equipment used before and after use. While staff does clean/sanitize during the day, as a courtesy to your fellow homeowners, it is your responsibility to make sure you wipe down equipment after use. • Make sure you re-rack weights after use. • Be sure to note the 30-minute limit on cardio machines if others are waiting. • Allow others to work in between your sets. • Please limit phone use while in the gym or on the track. • With the ongoing pandemic, please make sure to adhere to the requirements when wearing a mask. The mask must cover both the nose and mouth. For a full list of the Fitness Center Etiquette policy, see the following page or visit SolivitaHOA.com > Lifestyles > FitWell > Docs & Forms > Solivita Fitness Center Rules and Regulations. Here is to a fresh and New Year. Happy 2021 Solivita. Stay Safe!!! Jamar Edge 863-496-3522 jedge@evergreen-LM.com

Fitness Center Etiquette By Fitness & Wellness Staff
To get started at the Fitness Centers, please call either the Riviera Spa & Fitness Center at 863-427-7130 or The Palms at 863496-1530 to schedule an Orientation Appointment with one of the staff.
Using Equipment With Others Waiting • Allow others to work in between your sets. • Do not rest on exercise equipment - recovery is accelerated by light muscular activity such as walking about between sets rather than sitting. • On cardio equipment, abide by the time limit (30 minutes) when others are waiting. • Wipe equipment with a disinfecting “Gym Wipe” after machine use to ensure a sanitary environment. We ask that you do not use personal towels to wipe down equipment after use. • For safety when using the treadmill, you are required to “tether” the belt clip to your belt line.
When You’re Finished With Equipment • Return equipment to its proper place when you have completed an exercise. (Dumbbells placed in order on rack, return benches, mats and other equipment in its designated storage area). • Return weight on all machines to “0” to prevent the next person from injuring themselves.
Be Aware of Exercise Area • Stay clear of areas that require space at or near a particular station. (Weightlifting platform, cable crossover machine, weight trees, do not crowd other exercisers.) • Do not exercise in a walking path, i.e. in front of water cooler. • Do not stand in front of the dumbbell rack as others will need clearance to get and put away their dumbbells. • People vary widely in the ability to tolerate increases in body temperature associated with exercise. Exerciseinduced heat stress can be extremely dangerous and/or life-threatening. Please be considerate of other’s needs for increased air circulation via ceiling fan use. Please show respect for other exerciser’s safety and comfort by asking before turning fans off or on, and approach differing individual physiological needs with a spirit of cooperation and compromise. • We ask that you stretch in the designated stretching areas.
| 10 |
For safety reasons, do not perform floor stretch exercises in the free weights area.
Avoid Making Too Much Noise • Keep in mind an exercise facility is a public place where many participants are trying to concentrate on performing their exercises. • Do not initiate conversation with someone while they are engaging in weight training. • Cell phones should be on vibrate or silent. If you must take a call, please move out of the workout area for personal conversations. • Avoid dropping weights – ask a Fitness Specialist for techniques for raising and lowering weights.
Fitness Class Etiquette • Classes are meant to be led by an instructor with as little distraction as possible to ensure safety for everyone attending the class. • Do not enter a class once it has started. Arrive 10 minutes early to set up your area. » It is important for your safety to prevent injury that you are not entering while arms or weights are swinging or that you miss the warmup portion. » It is very distracting for your instructor when you arrive late or leave early. • Do not disrupt a class by leaving early. » Proper cool down time and stretching is essential for your safety and to prevent injury. • Show your instructor respect by limiting chatter and focusing on their direction. • Allow the class that proceeds you to put away their equipment before you enter the room. Not doing so could lead to a potential injury event. • Put your equipment away after class (steps, dumbbells). • Do not hold space for others. Arrive early and reserve only space for YOU. • If you are participating in water classes, please use the Continued on page 11

Fitness Center Etiquette continued from page 10 pool locker rooms. Do not enter the lobby wet, as slips and falls may occur. • Rinse off before entering the pool at the pool side shower. • Turn cell phones off.
Wear Appropriate Apparel • Wear comfortable workout clothes (bring a sweatshirt if you get cold easily and wear a thinner shirt if you’re warmer natured). • Wear athletic closed-toed, heel covering shoes with rubber soles. • Bring a hand towel to place on equipment when working out.
Locker Room • Showers » Turn off water. » Minimize shower time so others are not waiting long periods of time. » Be respectful of other people’s belongings and personal space. » Cell phones are not permitted in locker rooms for the privacy of all residents.
• Saunas » Always sit on a towel or an article of clothing. » To provide a sanitary environment for all residents, do not have bare skin on the wood benches. Wood cannot be sterilized, and bacteria reproduces and grows in warm, dark environments. » It is not appropriate to be in the sauna nude as it is a shared space. Please wrap a towel around you or wear a bathing suit.
Swimming • During open swimming, lanes are first come, first serve. There is no reserving of lanes with the exception of those set aside for Club activities (i.e., Dragonboat swim tests, swimming lessons).
Additional Items: • Bring your ID to access entry into the fitness centers. • Sign in and out each time you visit the fitness center. • Inform the Director of Wellness of any concerns so they can be addressed.
Salute Our Veterans Weekend 2020 Thank You for Another GREAT Event! This crazy year couldn’t stop us from celebrating and honoring our Solivita Veterans who have sacrificed so much. From the flag raising to the breakfast, culminating with our annual Veterans Golf Tournament, the weekend was a huge success. The Salute Our Veterans Committee worked hard alongside Activities to put together this fantastic event. Hampton Golf did an amazing job with the adjusted tournament format, which accommodated 160 golfers and Stonegate delivered a wonderful breakfast and lunch for all of the participants. The cold beer was a wonderful addition.
Reflections | January 2021 |
A BIG thank you to all of our sponsors. We appreciate you and the opportunity to honor our Veterans! • Taylor Morrison donated water for the tournament. • Hampton Golf provided a continental breakfast and cold beer for all participants. • Evergreen Lifestyles Management donated a box lunch for the golfers. • Art’s Golf Cars donated all the tournament prizes. • Baldwin Brothers sponsored a hole at the tournament. • Humana sponsored several of our goody bags for our golfers. • Many Veterans Club Members sponsored several of our holes.

Committee Roundup FitWell Committee
To all Solivita residents, we wish each and every one of you a Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year. Two new members have been selected; the committee is now complete and ready to tackle concerns that any residents have. We are your representatives! Contact us at: SolivitaHOA.com > Lifestyles > Wellness Committee or at WellnessCommittee@SolivitaHOA.com. One question that we, as homeowners, regularly hear is whether guests are allowed to visit and use the facilities. Presently, the answer is, “No.” Solivita Management and Taylor Morrison are doing their parts in applying the CDC recommendations necessary to safeguard the health and safety of the residents. As a reminder to early morning walkers, and bicycle riders: wear something that highlights you in the dark.
Solivita Lifestyles Activities Committee (SLAC)
With the facilities reopening and events returning, Activities met with the SLAC committee over Zoom to discuss new and exciting ideas for 2021 that would work with the current safety guidelines. In attendance for this meeting was Vickie Lori Gates Freece, Doug Hellebuyck, Diane Smith, Karla Wisinski, and Irwin Zalko. With Richard Goldsmith stepping down, we welcome Solivita resident, Lori Gates to SLAC in 2021! Did you enjoy the Halloween and/or the Holiday community wide

parade from the comfort of your golf cart? The committee debated whether keeping this community wide parade would be a smart idea when events return to normal with street parties and food trucks. Questions about street party attendance, and where people would watch the parade were brought up. Ultimately, SLAC and Activities agreed that the community wide parade is a good route because it offers more viewing points and parade participants get to show off their creations even longer! Look forward to the next Mardi Gras Parade and Street Party on Tuesday, February 16th! Speaking of Mardi Gras, SLAC discussed that Solivita Clubs selling home cooked food is not appropriate during these different times, and all concessions will have to be provided by Food Trucks or Stonegate Golf Catering. Instead, Solivita Clubs will be able to raise money by selling other Mardi Gras related gear, like beads, masks, light-up glow products, photo booth, etc. Another event that is taking a twist is the Valentine’s Day celebration. It will be a Cupid Walk on Saturday, February 13th! SLAC discussed that there will be four different outdoor locations set up for different meal courses throughout the Solivita Village Center. Activities will be progressing groups of 20-30 people at staggered start times throughout the night from area to area to enjoy food, music, couples games and entertainment. For more information on these events, see the back of the calendar insert in Reflections. The Chef’s Corner
[ Department] Articles
By Chef Curtis Hillard CEC, CPC Executive Chef, Stonegate Golf Club Happy New Year! Many of us struggle with that old, “I’m going to get in shape” New Year’s resolution. Here’s a recipe to help you along with the struggle. For a healthy substitution, try gluten free pasta which is a great alternative to wheat spaghetti and just as delicious!
Vegan Mushroom Bolognese INGREDIENTS • 2 tbsp olive oil • 1 onion diced • 2 medium sized carrots peeled and diced • 1 celery stalk diced • 3 cloves of garlic chopped • 1 tbsp thyme leaves roughly chopped • 10 g (1/3 oz) dried wild mushrooms reconstituted in 2 ½ tbsp boiling water • 500 g mushrooms diced, 1 pound • 1 tbsp tomato paste • 1 cup red wine shiraz and pinot noir work well here • 2 tbsp soy sauce, gluten-free variety if needed • 400 g (14 oz) can of chopped Italian tomatoes • Salt and pepper to taste • 400 g dried spaghetti (14 oz)
Cook until the wine has almost evaporated before adding the tinned tomatoes and season with salt. 6. Move the frying pan to your smallest burner, cover and reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30-60 minutes (depending on your patience - although the longer it cooks, the better the flavor - check and stir occasionally to make sure it isn’t catching) or until the sauce is thick and rich. Check and adjust the seasonings as necessary and remove from the heat. 7. Just before the sauce is ready, bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Season generously with salt and add the spaghetti and cook according to the packet directions. 8. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup of the pasta cooking water and return to the saucepan and top with the mushroom bolognese and cooking water. Toss to combine and divide between 4 bowls to serve. Top with grated parmesan or nutritional yeast if you are vegan.
INSTRUCTIONS 1. Place a large frying pan over medium heat and add the olive oil. Add the onion, carrots and celery, season with salt and cook until slightly golden and caramelized. 2. Next, add the mushrooms. I like to do this in four batches, so they all get a chance to cook properly. Once each batch is cooked, add more until all of the mushrooms are cooked. 3. Add the garlic and thyme and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the garlic is cooked. 4. Now remove the wild mushrooms from the boiling water, reserving the soaking water, and roughly chop the wild mushrooms. Add wild mushrooms along with the tomato paste to the pan and increase the heat to medium-high. 5. Add the red wine, mushroom soaking liquid and soy sauce.

Wishing Upon 2021!
By Shelley Destefano Community Concierge So much has changed in 2020 leaving us on the brink of 2021 with a worsening, unimproved way of life. What now? We must find ways to improve our quality of life. With the cure for the virus within reach, we can hope for nothing more than for things to go back to normal. Hopefully we can start living in the world again instead of just existing in it. Maybe my expectations are too high for the New Year, but I would rather them be too high than too low. Too many dreams die when people stop wishing and lose hope. Please don’t fall in that category.
34th Annual Florida Manatee Festival
Don’t forget to bring your masks with you while venturing out of your hermit shells as we are still dealing with a pandemic. he Veterans Club of Solivita is asking for your help through your donations. Among the charities that the Veterans Club of Solivita supports are College Scholarships to local ROTC high school seniors; Bingo Games for the facility-bound Veterans at the VA Community Living Center at Lake Nona; Free and medically supervised travel to Washington, D.C. in the Honor Flight Program for WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans to visit the memorial that was specifically created to honor their services as well as the services of their fellow comrades who had paid the ultimate sacrifice; USO at the Orlando airport, which provides programs and services for transition back to civilian life, for nurturing hospital care when recovering from a battlefield injury, training accident or even a long illness, and for vital links to information, programming and community support for the healing families. The Veterans Club of Solivita is asking for your donations to help support and further these and other programs. As a thank you for your donation, the Veterans Club members and non-military Solivita volunteer residents will ensure that a 3’ x 5’ American flag flies in front of your home six times a year on President’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day through 9/11, and Veterans Day. When your neighbors see the flag flying in front of your home, they will know it symbolizes your love of the flag, your love of country, and your support of the military men and women who have and still fight for the freedoms we have and enjoy. Just think of it, an American flag flying in front of every home in Solivita. Almost 2,800 flags were displayed throughout Solivita in 2020. Won’t you please help our cause with a $25 yearly tax-deductible contribution? One-hundred percent (100%) of your contribution goes to support these charities and the Veterans Club takes no administrative fees. Note: The flags remain the property of the Veterans Club and it is the club’s responsibility to install, remove, store, care for, and maintain the flags. Applications are available on the Veterans Club webpage on www.SolivitaHOA.com or at the Concierge Desk. Meet Our Volunteers If you ask any of your neighbors in Solivita what makes the community special ... you will almost always get the same answer: the people. Nowhere in Solivita will you find a more dedicated, diverse or interesting group of people than in the Resident to Resident Resource Center. We have come here from all over the country and from every profession. What makes the Resource Center so successful is the fact that our volunteers use their unique skills to benefit this community in countless

ways. Over the next few months, we’d like you to meet some of the people who keep our organization functioning.
Nan Johnston Nan Johnston’s face is familiar to almost everyone in Solivita because she is so actively engaged in the community. From the Book Circle to Meals on Wheels, she is a guiding force. Nan is also the heart and soul of our group which she founded – first as the Widows’ Club, then as the Resource Center. Having come to Solivita from Ohio, where she was a children’s librarian, she has had the honor of meeting three first ladies: Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton and Roslyn Carter through her work with the First Ladies’ Library in Canton, Ohio.
Florence Filak Florence Filak is the perfect example of a volunteer whose professional career has helped shape the R2R activities. Working as a Rehab Nurse for 37 years and a nurse educator in administration (in addition to an elementary school teacher, florist and other careers), she has helped elevate the Resource Center’s medical equipment lending program to a new professionalism. A self-described “Jersey Girl,” she has nonetheless moved nine times before making Solivita her forever-home. We invite you to stop into the Resource Center and meet some of the people who are here to help. R2R Resource Center 863-236-9973 SolivitaR2R@gmail.com

How Prepared Are You? Submitted by the Solivita CERT Team
Solivita CERT has three goals: 1) Be ready to effectively respond to a disaster; 2) Help residents be prepared; and 3) Support county/regional responses. This tip focuses on item number 2 above—resident preparedness. We just emerged from the official hurricane season and have transitioned into wildfire season and tornado season. These latter hazards occur with no warning. It pays to be well prepared throughout the entire year. In any large-scale disaster (bigger than your home or immediate neighborhood), weather-related or man-made, you need to: 1. Be Aware of What is Happening. This might be watching weather developments (like any one of the 28 hurricanes) on news media, having a weather radio (which deals with all hazards) or subscribing to an alert system (like Polk County’s free AlertPolk, at member.everbridge.net/ index/892807736724723#/overview). The Polk County Citizen Information Line is 863-401-2234. 2. Have a Disaster Kit (also called a survival kit or Go-kit). Typical contents should include 3 days’ worth of nonperishable food; a gallon of water per person for at least 3 days; some basic hand tools, duct tape and trash bags; flashlights for everyone with extra batteries; first aid kit; toiletries; copies of important papers; your medications for a couple of weeks; pet carrier and supplies and meds; any necessary life-sustaining powered equipment. Also the charger for your cell phone(s), including one for use
Reflections | January 2021 |
in your car. See our Supply List in the documents on our CERT club webpage at SolivitaHOA.com > Get connected > Clubs > C-D-E > CERT > Documents. 3. Make a Plan. Know what you need to do in a variety of scenarios—weather emergencies, chemical spill evacuations, power outage. This may be shelter in place (if your home is still habitable), go to a friend’s house, go to a hotel out of the area or may involve evacuation. Where would you go? Do they allow pets? Remember to leave right away. Evacuation routes congest fast. Depending on the threat, you may need to even leave the state. See Disaster considerations on SolivitaHOA.com. 4. Have a Communications Plan. Who should you tell— someone out of the area? Tell them where you are headed and when you expect to get there. Have them keep others informed for you. Take a hardcopy of necessary/important contacts and their numbers (doctors, pharmacy, insurance, banking) because your cellphone may run out of battery and you may lose access to its contacts file. These recommendations relate to considerations you should make AHEAD OF TIME. When a disaster is upon you is not the time to start thinking about them. No one can “catch you up” then. NO ONE CAN PREPARE FOR YOU— only you know your needs and limitations. This information is brought to you by the Solivita Community Emergency Response Team.

Happy 2021, Solivita!
By Brad Thompson Branch Manager, Floralawn Here’s hoping that you all had a wonderful Christmas and holiday season and are now enjoying a quieter month and our beautiful cool Florida weather! At Floralawn, as much as we love the holiday season, we’re glad to be into January. We have lots to do during the cooler months and now we can focus on those tasks. We start preparing for spring and summer work at the beginning of the year—acquiring equipment, setting schedules, hiring new team members, rezoning, etc.
A Quick Look Back at December December was a full month on the cool-season bi-weekly mowing schedule. We are still in this schedule, of course, and will be until April. The detail schedule stays the same year-round. Brown Patch Fungus, or Large Patch Fungus, continues to be a disease that we keep an eye out for. It’s a turf disease that occurs in the fall and winter and early spring. We treat it as needed throughout the property.
Turf Care January brings the first round of lawn fertilizer and insecticide applications. Fire ants, which are a perpetual threat in central Florida, are curbed by insecticides. Fire ants tend to make taller mounds during the cooler months in an attempt to get more warmth from sunshine. The taller mounds are easy for us to
spot and treat. This month we will scouting out ant mounds and treating them daily.
Floralawn University The slower growing season gives us some breathing space and time to implement employee training. We usually divide our team members into groups and rotate them through different training components. These include: • The use of proper equipment on each job • Using herbicides according to regulations • Shrub pruning and tree trimming techniques • The safe use of small equipment
Questions? If you have any questions about the things I’ve covered in this article, please call me at 863-225-9565, or if you’re in the Village and the Admin building is open, stop by for a chat with whichever friendly Floralawn person is in our office! We welcome your questions and concerns. Again, I wish you a wonderful and peaceful new year. We certainly saw a wild twelve months in 2020 with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and other significant events. Many of us were personally deeply affected by some of these things. I hope that your 2021 is full of peace, health, friends, and happiness!
RELAY COMMUNITY EVENTS RELAY FOR LIFE VIRTUAL TEAM PARTY & KICK-OFF MEETING
Tuesday, January 26th • 6pm • Microsoft Teams Meeting Unfortunately, we’re unable to host an in-person Relay in April this year, but Relay has always been about more than one day. It’s about supporting survivors, caregivers, and honoring the memory of those we’ve lost to this horrible disease. Cancer patients need us now more than ever ... researchers need us to fund them now more than ever to continue the fight. Even though we’re unable to gather in person during this first part of the year, will YOU help us keep the spirit of Relay going strong in Solivita? We will come together virtually and plan on staying connected through different ways now and through the coming year. We need help recruiting fundraisers and teams that can support the American Cancer Society in ways that are safe and fun; we just need to think outside of the box! Join us for our kick-off on January 26th where we’ll be sharing ideas of how you can support the spirit of Relay. SPEED ENFORCEMENT IN SOLIVITA The HOA, Security, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office receive multiple complaints of speeding each week from residents. The Sheriff’s Office has been asked for their assistance in speed enforcement. Receiving a speeding ticket is not only financially costly, but can lead to much more serious results. Think about these facts: A driver is six times more likely to have an accident when traveling at 25% above the posted speed limit; Speeding reduces the amount of available time to avoid a crash and increases the severity of a crash once it occurs; and Speed is a choice over which the driver has complete control.
