ello Victoria Park residents! My name is Michelle Saunders and I am your new Community Association Manager. I’m joining the ranks at Victoria Park with 11 years of experience in the community association industry. I was also a past board member of the Community Association Institute - Central Florida Chapter and have previously managed active adult, golf course and all age communities in Central Florida. My husband James, my two sons, Steven and Jake, and I currently live in Clermont and look forward to relocating to DeLand this summer. I am very excited to join the great team in place at Victoria Park. We will be organizing a Meet & Greet in the upcoming weeks and I will send an e-blast once the details are confirmed. With many of our snow birds having left for the summer, or planning to soon depart, I look forward to welcoming you all back and getting to know each of you in the coming months. Tracy’s Farewell I would also like to thank Tracy Carter for all of his hard work at Victoria Park during the past 3 years. Tracy will remain at Victoria Park through the end of April to ensure a smooth management transition. On Tuesday, April 25th we will be holding a Farewell for Tracy at Victoria Gardens Clubhouse from 5pm-7pm. Please feel free to stop by to wish him well in his future endeavors.
Community Reminders A Victoria Park Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd at 10am at Mulligan’s Tavern & Grille. All Victoria Park residents are invited to attend this meeting. A Developer Update Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 2nd at 6pm at the Victoria Gardens Clubhouse in the Ballroom. At this meeting, DR Horton will be presenting their development plans for the Blue Lake parcel within Victoria Park. All Victoria Park residents are invited to attend this informational meeting.

COMPLIANCE
Covenants Corner BY CHRISTY POLLOCK
A
large part of maintaining a beautiful home and community is the landscaping. Keeping shrubs and trees trimmed, flower beds mulched and the yard free of weeds requires a lot of work. Cleaning gutters, raking leaves, trimming trees, and cleaning driveways and sidewalks are all necessary property improvement tasks. The entire lot, including the Right-of-Way area between the sidewalk and the street, is the homeowner’s responsibility; this includes street trees. All trees, bushes and other landscaping should be trimmed in a uniform manner. Street trees should be trimmed at least 14’ above the street and at least 8’ above the sidewalk. They should also be trimmed away from street signs and light posts. Whether you, the homeowner, or an outside company handles this maintenance it is important to note a few important rules of our community. Any landscaping debris needs to be properly bundled and stored out of sight until at least 6pm Monday evening for Tuesday’s regularly scheduled pick-up. Leaves and other landscape debris should not be blown into the streets; it clogs the drains and interferes with the irrigation system. Planting annuals, perennials and other colorful flowers can add to the curb appeal and aesthetics of the community. Residents living in Victoria Hills, Victoria Commons, and Victoria Trails may change the landscaping of their home using the approved plant list without ARC approval as long as the change is similar in type and size (shrub for shrub, plant for plant). Residents living in Victoria Gardens need approval for all changes made to the exterior of their homes. The irrigation system must be in proper working order to fulfill its job. Please note that all residents of Victoria Trails, Victoria Hills, and Victoria Commons have designated irrigation run times. If you are unsure of your time, please contact the Community Management Office. When installing new landscape or sod, we do not have the ability to allow you extra run time with the reclaimed water. You can, however, use a hose or manual sprinkler to get the water needed to help your new plants root.

Beautification Award Winner Mr. and Mrs. Ronald and Frances Latow 214 Wescott Court in Victoria Gardens I’d like to introduce you all to this quarter’s Beautification Award Winners, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald and Frances Latow. Their home was chosen based upon a visual inspection that included landscaping and decorations. The Latows have lived in Victoria Park since 2002 and were the first couple to reserve a lot in Victoria Gardens. They personally chose their lot and still love the location and their neighbors. They have a custom built ISSA home in the “Relic” section which includes an 800 sq. ft. master bedroom on the second floor and a wraparound porch. They chose to retire in The Gardens for the active lifestyle element and have been very involved since the beginning. Mrs. Latow served on the original Social Committee and was a previous President of the Women’s Club. Mr. Latow was a previous Treasurer of the Men’s Club. Some of their favorite memories in their home include hosting family holiday festivities as well as observing the many wildlife species that call Victoria Gardens home.

Residents Enjoying Community Events! On March 17th, Victoria Park welcomed over 400 runners/walkers for the 14th Annual Victoria Park St. Patrick’s Day Chase the Leprechaun 5K. Thanks to the wonderful participants and sponsors for making this event possible. Proceeds went to the DeLand Family YMCA, Freedom Elementary, Give Kids the World and the Kiwanis Club of DeLand. Then on April 8th, the Victoria Park Community celebrated its Annual Easter celebration, “Alice in Wonderland,” with over 200 participants. The residents enjoyed face painting, crafts, a DJ, an Easter egg hunt, and more!

Resident Spotlight: Neal Hummerstone BY EVA NICOL

ictoria Gardens’ resident, Neal Hummerstone has dedicated his life to teaching self-defense. He has taught students from international militaries and police academies to children with disabilities. Neal is the founder of Aiki Tora Ryu (ATR) which teaches a complex defensive system in a simplistic manner. He is also the founder of International Combative Survival Tactics (ICST). ICST is effective for men and women regardless of age, ability, size or physical condition. Neal was one of the three Americans asked by the Russian general to train their special forces. He also taught several times in England, Germany and Israel. Neal is featured in instructional videos shown all over Europe and also in the Black Belt magazine. Neal’s list of honors and awards spans decades of achievements. Some include: Florida Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, London England International Hall of Fame, Deputy Director of Police Tactics Instructors of America, and World Martial Arts Hall of Fame Weapons Expert. Most recently, Neal has been invited to attend London Internationals Hall of Fame Awards Banquet in June 2017. Grandmaster Neal Hummerstone is considered an international living legend among the martial arts, military and police elite.

St. Patrick’s Day Events Victoria Gardens residents celebrated the Luck of the Irish all weekend long with two St. Patrick’s Day events! On Friday, March 17th, over 140 residents came to the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Dance hosted by resident Marlene Caplis and her crew. The night started off with Irish Shinangians told by Rick Johnson and Steve Carey, followed by a traditional Irish Sing Along. The Café team
served up the corn beef and cabbage and the DJ had the party-goers dancing the jig all night long. On the following day, the Lifestyle team hosted a Green Everything Luncheon on the pool deck. The luncheon included an all you can eat Irish themed buffet and featured an authentic Irish band. Over 100 residents enjoyed the poolside festivities.
