Happy New Year! As we step into the fresh start of January and February, our community welcomes the new year with renewed energy and a sense of possibility. From crisp morning walks to cozy gatherings with friends and neighbors, these early months offer the perfect opportunity to reset, connect, and enjoy the simple moments that brighten winter days. I had an amazing time at our last Signature Event of the year, “It’s a Wonderful Lifestyle” and I hope you did as well! The drinks, food and entertainment were wonderful, but most importantly, I enjoyed the shared community to create lasting memories. I am so privileged to be able to share this space with you all, here in this amazing community. We invite you to embrace everything that makes life here so special, whether it’s joining a lively pickleball match, taking part in a winter wellness activity, or simply savoring time with those around you. With social events, seasonal gatherings, and opportunities to begin 2026 with intention and joy, there is something for everyone to enjoy as we move into a hopeful new year together. As you review the upcoming activities and events on the interactive calendar, please remember to register for any events and activities you would like to attend. his edition’s Team Spotlight is Cameron Mercadel, a Resort Lifestyle Staff Member who is always offering a kind smile and friendly conversation to all who cross his path. Cameron is from Elk Grove, and just like Katie and Ashley, he also has a twin! Cameron loves to travel, dance, and converse. His pleasant attitude and welcoming spirit is much appreciated! It’s no wonder he is such an important member of our small but growing staff here at Esplanade at Madeira Ranch! Next time you see Cameron around the community, make sure to say hello!

Furry Friends Meet Hamilton

LOVED BY APRIL & KEN MEDERIOS Hamilton (aka Ham) has been our beloved fur baby for five years. He’s been a special member of our family since the early days of COVID. He and his brother were born on the streets to their mom, a dog belonging to a local homeless man. When winter weather became too harsh, the man made the difficult decision to bring the two puppies to the Elk Grove Animal Shelter. The moment we saw Ham’s photo on the adoption page, we knew it was time to open our hearts again after losing our previous dog the year before. We brought him home, introduced him to his two kitten sisters, and the three quickly became inseparable. At the local dog parks, Ham is affectionately known as “The Diplomat.” He greets everyone with warmth and has a natural gift for helping new puppies learn how to socialize. If any dogs start to disagree, he steps right in, gently guiding them back to harmony— peace is always his mission. Since moving to Esplanade, Ham has fully embraced resort-style living. He can often be spotted cheering on the pickleball players or running alongside Mom and Dad during bike rides around the neighborhood.

Melvin & Dot Turner The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. elvin and Dot Turner have been proud Members of the Esplanade community for about a year. Originally from Illinois, they made the move to California to be closer to their adult children and grandchildren, embracing a new chapter filled with family, sunshine, and West Coast living. The Turners enjoy an active and adventure-filled lifestyle. They love taking short rides on their Goldwing motorcycle, cruising the open roads and exploring the beauty of Northern California. They also enjoy traveling, whether it’s a spontaneous weekend getaway or a planned trip to discover new places and experiences. Since settling into Esplanade, Melvin and Dot have truly embraced the resort lifestyle. From social events to community activities, they enjoy the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere and all the amenities that make Esplanade feel like home.

Help Backyard Wildlife

animals in your backyard may find it harder to find shelter, water, and food in the coming months. You can help by simply placing a shallow dish of water in a sunny spot in your backyard. If you place a container on the ground, add a rock or two near the edge to help smaller creatures crawl out. Keep the containers clean and refill when low. Join us for Tai Chi with our instructor, Ou! Tai Chi promotes balance, flexibility, and relaxation, making it an ideal practice for improving overall well-being without putting stress on the body. 5 - 6 apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well) 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon ¼ teaspoon nutmeg ¼ cup sugar 1 tablespoon flour

¾ cup rolled oats ½ cup flour ½ cup brown sugar ½ cup cold butter, cubed ¼ tsp salt Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). 2. Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish. 3. In a bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and flour. Spread evenly in the baking dish. 4. Begin preparing the topping by combining oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. 5. Cut in the cold butter using a fork or your fingers until the mixture becomes crumbly. Stir in nuts (if applicable). 6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples. 7. Bake for 40 - 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are tender and bubbling around the edges. 8. Let cool slightly before serving. 9. Serving idea: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for the perfect cozy winter dessert.

Annual Food Drive

n early November, our Esplanade community came together in a big way for our annual food drive — and what a success it was. Thanks to your generosity, we filled so many boxes that we needed to make three separate trips to deliver everything to Elk Grove Food Bank Services. This food bank has been serving our area since 1974 and supports thousands of local residents every month, including seniors, children, and working families. Remarkably, about 94% of every dollar donated goes directly into programs and services. Your donations helped provide vital resources — from emergency food and mobile pantry distributions to more long-term support — and made a real difference for our neighbors in need.
