Summer is here! There is one statement that sums up this time of year in Florida – “It’s HOT,” and this feeling is especially true for those spending their first “Florida Summer” with us here in Esplanade at Westview! Helpful tips to remember during the coming months include: hydrate (8-10 large glasses of water each day), dress for the heat (loose fitting, natural fabrics), and avoid the heat of the day (time your outdoor activities – before 10 a.m. and After 4 p.m.). We, of course, want everyone to stay safe during this summer season! I am pleased to announce that we have started setting up and generating participation in our Social Clubs and Interest Groups. Please connect with me if you would like to create a group based on your interests like poker, mahjong, or canasta. As our Resort Amenities takes shape, we look forward to more exciting groups like pickleball and tennis. Summer 2026 will be a ‘Summer of Celebration’ as we join together for many exciting events over the next couple of months, such as the World Cup finals, another installment of Karaoke, and a culinary trip to “The Med” with our Cooking & Cocktails Series! As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or suggestions you may have, and I look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Furry Friends Evee & Loki
LOVED BY BECKY, TERRY & TAIRA PERRAULT Evee, actually “Autumn Leaves,” is a Lady and a precocious fouryear-old prancing (Disney) princess! Her father was a pure white Champion Parti (Yorkshire) Terrier, and she follows that lineage with her fashion and fearless personality. Her mother? A “commoner” of traditional English Yorkie heritage. Maybe more of Jasmine and Aladdin with her Boo, “Cooper” from next door. Evee also watches her weight to ensure she does not gain above her five-pound limit and is a bit persnickety about what she eats. Preferring, of course, home cooked meals. She is very loving, but a bit skittish until she gets to know you and will then give you nonstop kisses. She enjoys her daily gecko “hunts,” watching squirrels around Esplanade, and chasing her balls then pushing them into hidden locations. Bringing them back is beneath her pay grade. She has her mom and dad to do that for her! She takes the signage at the dog park seriously, and “small dogs who think they’re big” and prefers that side! She is a beautiful fur baby and is acclimating to the Florida heat having been born in colder upstate, Finger Lakes, NY. Here, she will lie down and refuse to walk any further when it’s hot. She hates the humidity, which means extra brushing to keep her coat silky ( just like our hair) from frizzing! Yes, she is spoiled, enjoys the sunshine on the lanai and her fluffy large pillow/blankie to nap on! But she was nicknamed “baby” for a reason…she is our last one! Or so we thought. Loki, named for the “God of Mischievous” from the Marvel universe, was born in one of the snowiest cities in the U.S. in upstate New York. There the snow can pile up to three plus FEET per hour! So, we learned about Loki while we were here in Esplanade in January when
our vet inadvertently contacted us instead of our daughter for his first checkup results. After insisting we had no dog other than Evee and they were mistaken, something clicked about the name. A name my daughter had wanted to call “our” next dog. To which the vet tech apologized profusely, realizing she had “ruined the surprise.” So, Baby 2.0 arrived at Esplanade a couple of weeks later. Loki is now six months old making him a “tween-ager.” He loves all things puppy and, like us, is very “food motivated.” Especially before, during and after play classes, training and napping. He loves snuggles and feels like a soft muff scarf around your neck when he “flops” onto you. His “all in” barks welcome friends to come and play even though it sounds quite intimidating coming from his six-pound body. Unlike his advertised description and pedigree sister, his DNA results are a bit “like a box of chocolates” which shows his Terrier blend of Yorkie and Biewer with Maltese coloring and a coat of cuddly, curly poodle. He truly is a doodle of a character! Loki loves to garden around Esplanade picking up bark and mulch and replacing it somewhere else in another part of the community. Thanks to his doodling, he is now taller than Evee and often grabs her leash (and his own) to walk as a big boy! He loves all things that are (and are not) chewable with treat puzzles, playing with a menagerie of toys and, of course, playing with (irritating) his “big” sister! He is also a great car rider and enjoys the sunshine here in Florida with warm breezes in his face when the windows are down next to Evee! However, he does not like being cooped up in the carrier on the plane rides back and forth to New York! Loki is a snuggle bug with a curious, caring, loving personality just waiting to bark out his welcome to the next person or fur baby on the block!

David & Angela McDuffie The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. ew York and Long Island natives David and Angela McDuffie have been building businesses — and a life full of adventure — together since meeting in 1991. Angela spent years working in the medical field before becoming the owner of a successful home care agency in New York, which she has proudly continued to grow for the past 15 years. David, formerly in route sales, is now semi-retired and manages accounting for the agency while also serving as a trusted local handyman. The couple truly embodies the entrepreneurial spirit, having also owned an escape room business in South Florida and a small coffee shop in South Carolina. Angie is also a professional singer whose song was played on the radio back in 1992, adding yet another exciting chapter to their story. Their shared love of the Walt Disney Company and all things Disney is what eventually brought them to the Orlando area, where they continue to enjoy new adventures together. They are proud parents of two amazing children who now live in Los Angeles. With lives that have always been full, interesting, and ever-changing, one thing is certain — no one ever knows what the McDuffies are going to be up to next!

Summer Salad with Corn, Strawberries & Avocado Cool off and stay refreshed by trying this light and delicious salad at home. Perfect for sunny afternoons, backyard gatherings or a relaxing day by the water, this is packed with fresh flavors everyone can enjoy.

1 ear of corn, husks removed 1 long English cucumber, chopped 2 cups cherry tomatoes ½ avocado, cubed 2 cups fresh strawberries, quartered ½ cup fresh basil, chopped 1/3 cup crumbled feta Juice of ½ lemon 2 tablespoons olive oil Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS 1. To steam the corn, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the ear of corn directly into the water or place it in a steamer basket. Cover and steam for 5 minutes. 2. While the corn steams, prepare the remaining ingredients by chopping the strawberries, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and avocado. Crumble the feta, chop the basil, and set aside.

3. Once the corn is finished cooking, carefully remove it from the water and allow it to cool for a few minutes until it is comfortable to handle. Using a large knife, stand the corn upright and slice the kernels off the cob into a bowl. 4. In a large salad bowl, combine the corn kernels, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and avocado. Top with crumbled feta and fresh basil. Drizzle with olive oil and fresh lemon juice, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss gently to combine. 5. Enjoy immediately or refrigerate for 30 minutes for an extra refreshing summer salad.
