Happy New Year!
As we reach the end of the holiday season, this is naturally a time to look back on the past year, reflect, and look ahead to what’s next. When Esplanade at Westview launched in April of 2025, very few of our Members could have imagined calling this place home just one year later. Yet here we are—growing, thriving, and building something special together. Our community has come a long way in these first months, and we’re excited for all that the next year holds for our Members and for the continued evolution of Esplanade at Westview!
I would like to thank all those that became part of our holiday celebrations and joined in the merriment of the season. From food trucks and Friendsgiving to our Jingle Bell Jog and an Ugly Sweater Party (and of course some cornhole and chip it golf to hold us over) – so much fun and some great new memories/traditions!
Whoever says Florida doesn’t have winter has clearly never visited during January or February. And to all our northern friends—don’t worry, I’m not trying to compare the two. We know your winters are on another level entirely. That said, 35°F (which we saw in early November) is cold no matter how you look at it!
For those who enjoy the chill, you’re in luck. Historically, we can expect similar temperatures over the next 8–10 weeks. With that in mind, you’ll begin to see more indoor evening activities on our calendar throughout the next couple of months.

James Alexander brings experience, excitement and expertise to his role as Community Association Manager for Esplanade at Westview. In his previous role, he successfully managed a diverse portfolio that included multiple properties and a master-planned community, playing a pivotal role in transitioning from developer to homeowner association governance. His HOA community association career began at an Esplanade property, where he held various positions that deepened his expertise in community association management.
James aims to foster community cohesion and enrich the overall living experience at Esplanade at Westview. Outside of his professional life, James enjoys cycling and grilling. He also cherishes time spent with his fiancée, and values the moments shared with his daughter and grandson, believing these personal connections contribute to a balanced and mindful life.

Help Backyard Wildlife
Winter is here and it’s a perfect time to spend a Green Hour® helping backyard wildlife thrive throughout the season. Many of the beneficial insects, birds, and small animals in your backyard may find it harder to find shelter, water, and food in the coming months. You can help by simply placing a shallow dish of water in a sunny spot in your backyard. If you place a container on the ground, add a rock or two near the edge to help smaller creatures crawl out. Norma’s path to Esplanade at Westview is the culmination of her nearly decade-long pursuit of the American Dream. Originally from Honduras, Central America, her journey began in Sunrise, Florida, before taking her to Jacksonville for six years, and finally to Orlando – home to what she affectionately calls “the most wonderful place on Earth” – Disney World!
When the time came to purchase her first home, Norma knew exactly what she was looking for – and she knew where. After nearly a decade in the Sunshine State, Florida had become home, and she was ready to plant permanent roots. She wanted a safe haven with a strong sense of community. Esplanade at Westview delivered that and so much more. “I have no doubt that Esplanade at Westview is the last leg of my life journey in search of the American Dream,” she says with conviction.
Professionally, Norma works as a Software Consultant for a Jacksonville-based company. In her free time, she can often be spotted taking brisk walks through the neighborhood listening to her favorite podcast or audiobook, or, as the avid theme park enthusiast she is, exploring Orlando’s attractions – from Disney to Universal and everything in between.
She loves catching Broadway shows and musicals, attending music concerts, visiting museums, or settling in her cozy villa to watch documentaries, movies, or series based on real-life events. She also has a soft spot for historical dramas and period pieces – think Downton Abbey or The Gilded Age – and of course, rom-coms, mysteries, and thrillers!
Her hidden talent? Acting! Norma was part of an amateur theater troupe in San Pedro Sula, the Honduran city where she grew up, and true to that theatrical spirit, she harbors a delightful bucket-list dream: to appear as an extra in a film! “I don’t care if it’s simply closing a door like Joey Tribbiani did in that episode of FRIENDS!” she laughs.
Her favorite holiday is Christmas! She loves that it celebrates not only the birth of Jesus, but it’s a season where everyone is invited to rebirth themselves. It’s the time when the whole world lights up collectively, and this unique atmosphere of cheer, joy, happiness, and hope blankets the entire planet. It also evokes such happy memories from her childhood when she’d go to her mom’s hometown to spend the holidays with her big family – playing and dancing with her cousins and siblings, eating all that festive traditional food like Honduran tamales, roasted pork, and her grandmother’s fine baked bread. Those memories still fill her heart to this day!
When asked about her life motto, Norma reflects on words attributed to Mother Teresa: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Living out this philosophy, she shares her belief that she came to this world to be of service – something research has shown to be one of the greatest sources of true happiness. Whether it’s putting a smile on a neighbor’s face or welcoming friends and family from Honduras, Norma lives this motto every day.
At Esplanade at Westview, she’s found not just a house, but the perfect home to do just that, and she captures this beautifully: “Watching the sunrise and sunset from my villa puts me in a constant state of awe and gratitude every single day.”

Cozy Winter Spiced Apple Crisp
Patrick Scully, the Esplanade National Director of Food, Beverage & Culinary Experience is partnering with the Lifestyle team to bring you a delicious start to the new year. Our winter calendar is filled with opportunities to taste, learn, and explore. Stay tuned—warm, flavorful experiences are coming your way! In the mean time, try out this cozy dessert to comfort you up this winter season!
FILLING INGREDIENTS
» 5 - 6 apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
» 2 tablespoons lemon juice
» 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
» ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
» ¼ cup sugar
» 1 tablespoon flour
CRUMBLE TOPPING INGREDIENTS
» ¾ cup rolled oats
» ½ cup flour
» ½ cup brown sugar
» ½ cup cold butter, cubed
» ¼ tsp salt
» Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
3. In a bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and flour. Spread evenly in the baking dish.
4. Begin preparing the topping by combining oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
5. Cut in the cold butter using a fork or your fingers until the mixture becomes crumbly. Stir in nuts (if applicable).
6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
7. Bake for 40 - 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are tender and bubbling around the edges.
8. Let cool slightly before serving.
9. Serving idea: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for the perfect cozy winter dessert.
