As we step into the season, there’s so much to look forward to at Esplanade at Starling. This month, we’re bringing the excitement of baseball to our community, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game!” On March 3, we’ll catch the thrilling start of the World Baseball Classic exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox.
Later in the month, we’ll enjoy a fun-filled trip to Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood with our sister property, Lake Club. To cap off April, we’ll celebrate in style with a rooftop gathering at Perch 360, the perfect way to toast the season and connect with friends and neighbors.
Spring is all about new experiences, fresh energy, and unforgettable moments, and I can’t wait to share them with all of you. Here’s to connecting, celebrating, and continuing to make memories together this season!

At 11 years young, Emmy may be a senior in age, but she still has the heart and energy of a playful puppy. A Beagle and Jack Russell mix, Emmy was adopted from a shelter at just two months old and has been spreading joy ever since. Known for her friendly nature and big personality, Emmy is also proudly territorial—quick to announce the arrival of newcomers with her signature bark. Her adventurous spirit has taken her on memorable trips, including being the very first pup to test out a new Bark Park during a visit to Punta Gorda.
Loyal to her core, Emmy once stood watch while her human headed out for a run, keeping a careful vigil until their return. She’s also a wonderful travel companion and enjoyed special moments riding along with granddaughter Vera. Whether exploring new places or relaxing back home in Indiana, Emmy’s loyalty, charm, and puppy-like enthusiasm make her a beloved member of the family—and proof that age is just a number.

Corks & Courts Grand Opening CELEBRATION
Members gathered for a memorable morning as we officially celebrated the grand opening of the brand-new Pickleball Courts. The event began with a festive ribbon cutting ceremony, marking an exciting milestone and welcoming a new season of play, connection, and friendly competition within the community.
Following the ceremony, the courts came alive as Members took to the pickleball courts for fun, friendly games and their first rallies on the new surface. Light bites were enjoyed while neighbors connected over their shared love of pickleball, setting the tone for new friendships and an active year ahead.
Attendees also had the opportunity to meet the community’s new teaching professional, Martin Pickup, who will be leading future pickleball clinics, lessons, and on-court programming. His enthusiasm and expertise added excitement as Members learned more about what’s coming next for pickleball in the community.

Friendsgiving brought Members together for an evening filled with great food, shared laughter, and meaningful connections. Everyone contributed by bringing lovely, delicious dishes that turned the gathering into a true feast.

The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. Sandi and Lou retired in 2016 and made the move from Connecticut to Florida as full-time residents. They built a home on a canal in Cape Coral, bought a boat, and fully embraced their retired life. In 2022, they downsized to a condo to allow for more travel. Soon after, they became the fourth couple to sign a contract and move into their Esplanade home, where they began enjoying the Resort Lifestyle.
Lou spent his entire career in sales, ultimately becoming Vice President of Sales for a paper and janitorial distributor in the Northeast. Today, Lou is enjoying retirement by traveling the country in an RV with Sandi and visiting their three beautiful children, their spouses, and grandson. He also enjoys spending time with friends, sharing a few glasses of bourbon, and enjoying a good cigar.
After their children left for college and the Air Force, Sandi became a personal trainer. Her fitness journey led her to a plant-based vegan lifestyle. Sandi enjoys working out, cooking, reading, dancing, and listening to music, and she is loving the resort-style retirement life and the many new friendships she has made.
Sandi and Lou have shared 50 wonderful years together. They look forward to meeting new friends, traveling, and continuing to enjoy everything the Esplanade lifestyle has to offer.
