Happy Fall! As we welcome September and October, it’s hard to believe we’re already heading into one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. With cooler temperatures on the horizon, colorful fall decorations, football, and pumpkin spice making their return, there’s so much to look forward to here at Esplanade at Northgate. Before we dive into all that fall has to offer, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who made my August birthday so special. Your thoughtful wishes, kind words, and sweet gestures truly meant the world to me. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a warm, welcoming, and caring community. We’ve had a wonderful summer filled with great events, laughter, and new friendships, and I’m excited to keep that momentum going into the fall. Be sure to check out this issue for all of our upcoming activities, clubs, and special events. Whether you’re a familiar face or attending something for the first time, I encourage you to come out, get involved, and enjoy everything our community has to offer.

Furry Friends Meet Marshmallow LOVED BY JESSICA BRINN
Marshmallow is the sweetest, friendliest, and most affectionate dog I’ve ever met. She’ll be two in September, so stay tuned for the party invite! She loves to play—especially in the pool—and enjoys running and wrestling with bigger dogs. She adores my parents and is incredibly gentle with them. Marshmallow wants to meet everyone she sees and will even pout if we don’t encounter anyone on our walks! With her adorable little wiggle when she greets you, she’s equal parts silly, sweet, and smart. My baby girl had a rough start in life. At just four months old, she was found on the side of a country road with a badly broken leg that required surgery. Thankfully, North Meck Animal Rescue took her in, and after surgery and physical therapy, she was lovingly fostered by Morgan, the daughter of Nancy and Dave Schollhammer. The moment I met Marshmallow, I knew she was meant to be mine, and just two days later, I adopted her! She has brought so much joy, love, and happiness into my life, and I feel incredibly lucky to have her.

JB & Esa Jeyabalan The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. W
e are excited to begin this new chapter of our lives at Esplanade at Northgate after spending more than 33 years living and working in New Jersey and New York. Following our retirement in June 2025, we chose this wonderful community as the place to enjoy our future together. Our journey began in 1992. We met through our families while I was working in India and Esa was visiting from Bahrain. We met in January, were married in April, and soon after immigrated to the United States to build our life together. Esa dedicated over 32 years to nursing, first as an ICU nurse at St. Joseph’s Health in New Jersey for seven years, followed by 25 years as an ICU, Pre-Op, and PACU nurse at NewYork-Presbyterian/ Columbia University Irving Medical Center. I was proud to serve for 30 years as a Certified Medical Assistant in the Pre-Op Lab at St. Joseph’s Health in New Jersey. We have been blessed with a wonderful family—our daughter, Jessica, our son, Jeevan, and our son-in-law, James. They all live in the New York and New Jersey area and are pursuing careers they are passionate about. After decades of busy city life and cold winters, moving to Esplanade at Northgate has been a refreshing and joyful change. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with kindness, friendship, and a true sense of community. We are incredibly grateful for our wonderful neighbors, who have made us feel like part of one big family. The welcoming, caring, and safe environment has made this transition even more special.
We enjoy traveling, exploring nature, meeting new people, and helping those around us. We look forward to getting to know everyone better, building lasting friendships, and creating many happy memories together in the years ahead.

Members got creative during our Keychain Making Workshop led by Oriana! From colorful beads to unique designs, everyone enjoyed crafting personalized keychains while spending time with friends. It was a fun afternoon filled with creativity, laughter, and plenty of oneof-a-kind keepsakes to take home.
Nothing says summer quite like ice cream! Members gathered to build their own delicious sundaes with a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings. From sprinkles and chocolate syrup to whipped cream and cherries, everyone created the perfect treat while enjoying great conversation and sweet summertime fun.

Members enjoyed a relaxing day exploring the stunning gardens at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Beautiful seasonal blooms, peaceful walking paths, and picturesque landscapes made for the perfect outing. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature, take photos, and enjoy the beauty of the season with friends.
Route 66 transported Members back to the golden age of classic American road trips. The Venue was transformed with nostalgic décor celebrating the iconic highway, while Members enjoyed delicious food, music, games, and plenty of dancing. It was an unforgettable evening filled with laughter, great company, and memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you to everyone who joined us for another fantastic Signature Event—we can’t wait to see you at the next one!

Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats As the mornings become cooler, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a hearty, nutritious breakfast that fuels your day. Overnight oats are easy to prepare, packed with fiber, and feature one of fall’s favorite fruits—apples! This grab-and-go breakfast is a delicious way to start your morning. INGREDIENTS » » » » » » »
½ cup old-fashioned rolled oats ½ cup milk (or your favorite dairy-free alternative) ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt ½ apple, diced ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional) 1 tablespoon chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
DIRECTIONS Combine the oats, milk, yogurt, cinnamon, and maple syrup in a jar or container. Stir well, then fold in the diced apple. Cover and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, top with chopped nuts if desired and enjoy cold or warm it in the microwave.

1 cup canned pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling) 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed 2 tablespoons tahini 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 clove garlic 1 tablespoon lemon juice ½ teaspoon cumin Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Add a tablespoon of water if needed to reach your desired consistency. Serve with whole-grain crackers, sliced bell peppers, carrots, cucumber, or celery.
