Summer is here! As we welcome the summer months of July and August, our community comes alive with longer days, warm evenings, and many opportunities to enjoy time together. Summer always brings a special kind of energy, whether it’s spending more time outdoors, attending community events, or simply connecting with neighbors and friends. July is often filled with celebration, travel, and memory-making, while August gives us a chance to soak in the final weeks of summer before the busy fall season begins. I hope everyone takes time to relax, recharge, and enjoy all the little moments that make this season so special. Personally, I’m especially excited for August since it’s my birthday month, which always gives me something extra to look forward to each year! I’m also excited to continue creating fun experiences and opportunities for connection throughout the summer. Thank you all for being such an important part of our wonderful community. I look forward to seeing you around the neighborhood and at our upcoming events over the next few months. Wishing you all a fun, safe, and memorable summer!

Furry Friends Meet the Misius
LOVED BY YOUR CONCIERGE & ADMIN ASSISTANT, ORIANA DE LA CRUZ These three siblings have an interesting story behind their names: they all share the same one, thanks to a funny accident! In Oriana’s home country, when you call a kitten over, you say, “Misiu, Misiu,” and they come running. Although she originally gave each cat a different name that suited their individual personality, she would call, “Misiu, Misiu,” whenever it was time to eat. Before long, the cats began associating the phrase with food, attention, and their favorite person. Eventually, they stopped responding to their original names and would only come when they heard “Misiu.” You might think Oriana would have learned after the first time it happened, but she did not! The bright side is that whenever she calls for one cat, all three come swarming toward her at once, which she absolutely loves. Even though the cats share the same name, each one has a unique personality and a special story about how they were welcomed into Oriana’s home. Funnily enough, they are pictured above from oldest to youngest, from top to bottom. At the very top is the oldest, the first cat Oriana adopted after moving to the United States. She found her at a pet store for less than $20 and says she is the best investment she has ever made. Misiu No. 2, the gray cat and middle child, is the funniest and most talkative of the three. He meows constantly—not because anything is bothering him, but simply because he always seems to have something to say!
A friend from high school gave him to Oriana after finding him at a gas station, and he has been filling her home with personality and conversation ever since. The final cat, Misiu No. 3, is the youngest, and she certainly acts like it. She is the crankiest and feistiest of the three, but she is also the softest and quietest, so there are a few trade-offs! Her strong personality makes her a memorable and entertaining addition to the family. Each one holds a special place in Oriana’s heart and she adores them endlessly!

Terri Ward The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. T
erri (Knudsen) Ward is relatively new to Northgate and grateful to be settling into the community! After spending most of her life in Oregon, she moved to North Carolina last year in search of a slightly slower pace and the chance to put down roots somewhere new. Terri spent 35 years working in the construction, recycling, and sustainability industries, leading sales and business development efforts for equipment manufacturers and technology companies. Most recently, she served as Executive Director and CEO of a national recycling trade association. Last year, she was also honored to be recognized among the industry’s most inspiring women. Following a mostly wonderful 35-year marriage, Terri went through a divorce and decided it was time to step back, reset, and embrace a new chapter. She is now semi-retired and enjoys doing some consulting, which gives her the flexibility to fully appreciate this season of life. These days, Terri is focused on building a life that feels grounded, intentional, and connected. Her three siblings and extended family remain in Oregon, while her 27-year-old son, Payton, is pursuing his doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Denver. He lives with his fiancée, Olivia, and the couple plans to marry next year in Charleston before eventually heading South. “I love anything in the sun or around the water, a good glass of wine, or three, and I’ll never say no to a spicy margarita,” Terri shares.

embers have been thoroughly enjoying their time in the pool and fitness studio with our Aqua Fitness classes led by Megan and Stiff to Strong sessions with David. These programs have quickly become a favorite part of the
weekly wellness lineup, offering a great mix of energy, movement, and community connection. Aqua Fitness with Megan provides a refreshing, low-impact workout that allows Members to build strength, improve endurance, and stay active while being gentle on the joints. Set in the pool, the class combines cardio, resistance, and balance work in a fun and supportive environment. Meanwhile, Stiff to Strong with David continues to challenge Members through intentional strength, mobility, and flexibility training. Each session is designed to help Members move better, feel stronger, and improve overall function, no matter their fitness level. These classes have created a well-rounded wellness experience that Members look forward to each week, bringing people together, encouraging consistency, and supporting a healthier, more active lifestyle. They also offer a welcoming way for Members to stay motivated while building confidence and connection along the way.

Pool Opening
Members enjoyed a wonderful afternoon together at Tap & Vine followed by a relaxing matinee movie outing. The event was a great opportunity for Members to connect, enjoy good food, and spend quality time together outside of the community. Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a fun and successful day out!
The Pool Opening Social was a wonderful kickoff to the summer season! Members gathered to enjoy the beautiful weather, socialize with neighbors, and celebrate the reopening of one of our favorite community amenities. It was great to see so many familiar faces enjoying the afternoon together.
