Summer is here!
Whether you’re new to the neighborhood or simply exploring what’s possible, I’m thrilled you’re here. At the heart of this work is a simple purpose: creating interactive experiences that invite conversation, nurture belonging, and elevate daily life. I’m excited to roll out our summer programming. I have some new ideas I’m hoping you might enjoy as well as our tried and true events and meetings. I cannot ignore your hunger for learning, cooking, and wellness with our monthly cooking classes. This summer our Esplanade Resort Culinary Experiences team has lined up a class each month!
We haven’t left out our fur friends! This summer we are hosting a Summer Treats Lab where you can learn how to make treats, such as pupsicles and baked treats for our fur families. And of course, we’ll have “adult” popsicles and treats for the humans too.
In July, we’ll kick things off Independence Day weekend with a baseball game as the Bradenton Marauders take on the Daytona Tortugas, followed by a post game fireworks show. Sarah Santa will be back to teach Summer Harvest, the Pineapple Project. We will host our first Destinations event, A Taste of Europe, a progressive tasting and pairing experience. At our Hurricane Preparedness Mixer, award winning Dan Henry will share tips and we’ll toast our new prep skills with trivia and hurricane cocktails. The end of July is our first Summer Pickleball Social at swanky new St. Pete Athletic.
August is shaping up to be a creative month with The Art of Kokedama, part of our Plant Play Workshop series and Coasterra Comedy Club night. Chef Marco Marini will be back for laughs, tips and a history of ingredients of the Mediterranean region in the Cooking & Cocktails Series: The Med

Have you met Brett?! You may have seen his liquid sunshine smile, colorful tropical polos, and engaging manner in the Coasterra Sales Gallery when you popped in for a question or a peek at the models.
Brett Klein is part of the dream team as a Community Sales Manager at Esplanade at Coasterra, bringing more than two decades of experience in the new home building industry. Since starting his career in 2004, he has dedicated over 12 years to Taylor Morrison. What Brett loves most about working in an Esplanade community is the genuine connection he builds with homeowners, helping them not only find a home, but step into a vibrant, welcoming lifestyle.
“Helping someone find a house is important,” Brett shares, “but helping them feel like they truly belong in a community is what makes this work so rewarding.”
Originally from Chicago, IL, Brett grew up in Marietta, GA as a competitive swimmer, where he was ranked eighth in the state, an accomplishment that reflects the drive and energy he continues to bring to his work today. Now living in Palmetto, Brett embraces the Florida lifestyle with his wife, two daughters and dog, Ruger. Their family time is active, playful, and always open to a new adventure.
Their cabin at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak serves as their weekend playground, where they ride OneWheels along wooded trails, attend music festivals, swim in the river and nearby springs, and fully immerse themselves in Florida’s natural beauty. He does not simply sell the lifestyle, he and his family truly live it every day.
Music has always been a big part of Brett’s story, and here is a fun fact
about him, he is a drummer who once played in a cover band called Super Genius, performing everywhere from Venice and Sarasota up through Tampa. While you may not catch him on stage these days, he still enjoys attending concerts and music festivals whenever he gets the chance.
Brett’s enthusiasm for people shines just as brightly as his love for music and family. “I truly enjoy staying connected and being part of their journey long after closing,” he says. Known for being an excellent listener, Brett takes the time to understand each homeowner’s story and what matters most to them. Whether he is answering a quick question, sharing a laugh, or celebrating milestones, he brings genuine care, positive energy, and a personal touch to every interaction.

On Saturday, July 25 at 3 p.m. we’re stepping out onto the courts of the hottest new indoor pickleball club in the area, St. Pete Athletic, for a beginner-friendly pickleball social, complete with a private pickleball instructor. Between rallies, relax in our chic courtside lounge space for drinks and complimentary courtside nosh. After all the laughs and a little perspiration, we’ll float over to The Aviary at 5 p.m. for a reserved area for dinner and to toast a day well played. Your courtside experience awaits. Stylish. Meet Jewel
LOVED BY JESSIE GRIFFITH
Every so often, a pet comes into our lives and completely changes it, and for our Lifestyle Manager, Jessie Griffith, that’s exactly what happened with Jewel. She is Jessie’s first ever furry friend and their story began at a husky rescue farm in Oklahoma. When Jessie made the trip to meet her, Jewel was brought into a pen with three humans—Jessie, her dog-savvy bestie, and one of Jewel’s trusted trainers. But out of everyone there, Jewel made her choice instantly. She walked directly to Jessie, leaned in for the equivalent of a husky hug, rested her face gently against her leg, and refused to move. From that moment on, it was clear, Jewel had chosen her person.
That first year together, Jewel and Jess went through a bout of heartworms, getting all her vaccinations up to date, and almost lost an eyeball from a stray cat. She experienced her first snow by sledding down a hill in which she heartily did NOT “mush.” Once Jessie learned Jewel’s fascination to eat moving water, the pair made it a mission to go chasing waterfalls.
Jewel’s personality is as big as her story. She’s loud, dramatic, and unapologetically sassy—complete with theatrical howls of protest when Jessie asks her to get off what Jewel firmly believes is her couch, as well as exaggerated sneezes, dramatic brain freezes, and moments of boredom (paw to the snout - “Oh the horror!”). She refuses to play fetch, on principle, and gives the stink eye when she feels she’s being ignored (which is unacceptable!).
She sings a song of sorrow whenever her mom leaves the house— or stays away just a little too long. Several times a year, she sheds
her coat, covering nearly every surface imaginable. She’s also a notoriously picky eater, despite being treated to homemade, nutritious meals.
Despite the common misconception, Jewel loves Florida and suffers through the heat like the rest of us (Huskies are double insulated for the heat as well as the cold). You may have met Jewel here at Coasterra. She sometimes accompanies Jessie to Trail Tuesday or Yappy Hour. She thanks you for all the petting and hopes you enjoyed the pieces of her you took with you.

Cooking & Cocktails Series: TASTE OF BRAZIL
Guests enjoyed a lively Brazilian cooking demonstration by the entertaining Marco Marini, who shared culinary history, cooking techniques, and tips for sourcing authentic ingredients locally. Attendees sampled perfectly grilled picanha, cheesy farofa, flavorful rice and vinaigrette, and refreshing caipirinhas. With delicious food, plenty of laughter, and many guests returning for seconds, the evening was a tremendous success and set an exciting tone for the rest of this year’s global culinary journey.

The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. Kim and Chris Lucas’ story begins in Erie, Pennsylvania, born and raised, growing up just two miles apart. Yet their first meeting didn’t take place until years later at a popular high school hangout, McDonald’s, following Kim’s school dance. While they both attended the dance, they hadn’t been introduced until a chance encounter under the iconic Golden Arches. “There were plenty of initial sparks but only long conversations over the phone.”
Those early conversations laid the foundation for a lifelong partnership. After graduation, Chris joined the U.S. Army Reserve, completing basic training and Advanced Individual Training as an operating room technician before enrolling at Penn State in the spring of 1985. That same summer, while Kim was still in high school, Chris finally worked up the nerve to call and ask Kim out, and from that moment forward, the future felt certain. “We both knew instantly that we would be together forever.”
Chris went on to serve both in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and as a police officer with the Millcreek Township Police Department, building an impressive 30-year career that included leadership roles in patrol and SWAT. He spent 13 years on the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team, with the last four years serving as the SWAT team commander. Kim pursued her education at Mercyhurst University before discovering her passion for sales, where she has built a successful career in industrial distribution sales and now serves as a National Account Manager for Grainger, selling into the Healthcare vertical.
In 1988, the couple married in downtown Erie, marking the beginning of a life filled with milestones and meaningful moments. Together, they raised two children and are now proud grandparents, with family spread from New Jersey to Florida. Their love of baseball, especially cheering on the Philadelphia Phillies, eventually led them to Florida through annual spring training trips to Clearwater. What began as a getaway soon turned into something more, planting the seed for their move south and their next chapter.
In 2018, they made the move to Florida, where Chris took on a parttime role with the Philadelphia Phillies at their Clearwater facility. A few years later, they found themselves drawn to the Esplanade Lifestyle and amenities, moving into a rental home in the Esplanade at Artisan Lakes community. They were ready to put down roots in the area. After exploring the possibility of purchasing their rental, they began a home search that ultimately led them to Esplanade at Coasterra. It was an easy decision. They were drawn to both the community and the vision for what it would become.
Now settled in and making their new house a home, Kim and Chris are embracing everything this next chapter has to offer. Chris loves fishing, kayaking, is an avid tennis player, while both enjoy beach walks, and spending time with their 12-year-old beagle named Boo Radley. If you’re driving through the community, you might spot Chris’ white truck, kayak in tow, returning from a paddle. These two childhood sweethearts look forward to meeting neighbors and forming lasting friendships and memories.

Sunset Tiki CRUISE
On a beautiful April evening, Members enjoyed a relaxed tiki cruise around Anna Maria Island, with some meeting for the first time. Guests shared drinks, charcuterie, fruit, and vegetables, explored Jewfish Sandbar, and watched a stunning sunset. Island music, photos, and dancing on the ride back to the dock made for a memorable evening filled with new friendships, laughter, and shared experiences.
Bloom & Bubbly MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION
We honored our Coasterra moms with a special Mother’s Day Come & Go celebration recognizing all who nurture in a motherly way. In partnership with The Roaming Petal, guests created complimentary custom bouquets while learning tips to keep their blooms fresh longer. Petals and prosecco made the perfect pairing for a fun, relaxing, and memorable celebration.

What began as a beautiful Kentucky Derby morning turned into a breezy but memorable celebration as Members gathered in their Derby Day best. Guests enjoyed mint juleps, a mimosa bar, lively raffles, and great company. Head Teaching Pro Zach Combs hosted a Q&A about future sports programming, while a ceremonial shovel moment marked an exciting milestone for the future amenity site. It was a stylish, wind-swept celebration we won’t soon forget.

Nutritionist Sarah Santa from the Esplanade Culinary Experiences team led a fun, hands-on lab featuring fresh, all-natural ingredients. Guests enjoyed a Strawberry Basil Balsamic Shrub while learning to prepare three salads and dressings, practice culinary techniques, and explore sensory elements. Sarah’s approachable style and humor created a relaxed, engaging experience that left everyone inspired.

Salad Dressings
Back in May, we hosted a Salad Dressings Lab brought to you by the Esplanade Resort Experiences team member, Sarah Santa. A couple of the recipes developed by Sarah are below!
Summer Mango Vinaigrette
INGREDIENTS
» 1 cup fresh mango + ½ cup for garnish (or pineapple, peaches, etc.)
» ¼ cup olive oil
» 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
» 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
» 2 tablespoons maple syrup
» 3 tablespoons fresh Thai basil, cilantro, or basil + 2 tablespoons for garnish
» Pinch of salt
» 2-4 tablespoons coconut water
» Optional: sprinkle of chili powder
DIRECTIONS
1. Dice the mango into medium-sized cubes and roughly chop the Thai basil (reserve 2 tablespoons of herbs for salad garnish).
2. Add 2/3 cup of mango, Thai basil (or herb of choice) and all dressing ingredients to a blender.
3. Blend until smooth. To thin out the consistency, add 1-2 tablespoons of coconut water (or filtered water) to the blender.
4. Store dressing in a mason jar in the fridge for up to 10 days.
5. Served best chilled over fresh greens like butter lettuce or arugula, sliced cucumber and avocado.

» Delicate / Fruit Forward
» Arbequina — top choice; soft, slightly sweet, almost creamy
» Arbosana — a bit more complexity but still smooth and fruity
Creamy Sunbutter Dressing INGREDIENTS
» ¼ cup sunflower butter (if needed, swap sunflower butter for other seed and nut butters, such as tahini, almond butter, or peanut butter)
» 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
» 2 tablespoons coconut aminos (or soy sauce)
» 1 ½ tablespoons maple syrup
» 1 ½ - 2 tablespoons olive oil

DIRECTIONS
1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and blend with an immersion blender or food processor.
2. Adjust flavor with more or less lemon juice and coconut aminos.
3. Store dressing in a mason jar in the fridge for up to 10 days.
4. Serve with a choice of slaw (e.g., cabbage, kale, carrots).
