Furry Friends Meet Scout

LOVED BY BARBARA & JOE MARCIANO What breed/type is your pet? Havanese How old is your pet and when is their birthday? Scout is almost 2 years old. Her birthday is November 7, 2024. Sibling names or is your pet an only child? Scout’s sister’s name is Kathryn. When you travel, do they travel with you? She travels with us occasionally. What is their favorite treat? Her favorite treat is liver treats. What are a few amazing qualities about your furry best friend? Scout loves everyone she meets, people and dogs alike. Endlessly curious, she’s always exploring, and thunder and lightning don’t faze her one bit. She’s completely fearless. And if something ever goes missing, don’t worry, we know exactly who has it! How long has your pet been a part of your family? She has been part of our family for over a year now. Tell us a fun story involving your pet Last summer, we packed up Scout and headed to Connecticut to visit our granddaughters, Alexandra and Julia. On one of those perfect sunny afternoons, we grabbed the leash and headed to the park,

and Scout hit the grass like she’d been waiting her whole life for that moment. New smells, new sights, new people. She intended to investigate every single one. Alexandra and Julia ran alongside her, giggling, while Scout zigzagged between them like she was herding two very cheerful sheep. Every person they passed got the full Scout treatment, a wag, a wiggle, and those big brown eyes that made it absolutely impossible not to stop and say hello. She greeted dogs, children, and perfect strangers with equal enthusiasm, completely convinced the whole park had been arranged just for her. There’s something about watching your granddaughters run through the sunshine with a happy little dog between them that makes the whole world feel exactly right.

atch a glimpse of monarchs on the move. Head outside and see if you can spot monarch butterflies migrating through or over-wintering in your neighborhood! You might confuse monarch butterflies with other orange and black butterflies—the viceroy, and the queen butterfly. Learn to tell the difference and ways you can help monarchs and other butterflies year-round! Here are five things you can do: 1) Plant native milkweed; 2) Say no to pesticides; 3) Create a pollination station - butterflies love many colorful flowers; 4) Learn more about monarchs; and 5) Spread the word! hy did you choose Palmetto, FL / Esplanade at Artisan Lakes? Is your residency full-time or part-time? If parttime, where else do you spend your time? My wife’s brother, Rene Rodriguez, and her sister-in-law, Mari, told us that they stayed the weekend with our mutual friends, Rick and Lori Sandon. Rene and Mari explained the “Resort Lifestyle Experience,” and they just loved the place. We flew down from New Jersey a few days later. We loved the neighborhood, our home model, and the “Resort Lifestyle Experience.” We purchased a new home that was built six months later. We now live here year-round. How long have you lived at Esplanade at Artisan Lakes? We closed on our home on July 31, 2025. We were moved in by September 2025. What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Are you in a club? Do you attend any classes/clinics? Also, tell us your hobbies: I enjoy walking and biking around Esplanade every day. I like our gym and utilize it three times a week. I am involved in the Chess Club. I have just started participating in Lee Monday’s MMA Club. I am also starting to try pickleball. My hobbies are singing in my church’s choir, being a member of the Knights of Columbus, and enjoying listening to podcasts and reading about the Civil War. I have been able to visit Antietam and Gettysburg National Battlefields within the past year or so. Tell us about your family and current or past professions: I am married to my lovely wife, Zaraid Rodriguez. We have three grown children and two grandchildren. I worked as a Fire Safety Director at the World Trade Center for eight years until 9/11. Since 9/11, I have worked as a Transportation General Manager with various universities around the country and in logistics as a General Manager with an environmental services company. I am now retired. What is the best advice you have ever received or given? The best advice I have ever received is, “Nothing worthwhile comes easy.” Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to and what made it so memorable? One of my sons was doing a semester in Rome at the American University, so I went to visit him in Rome. I went to the Vatican Museum. I love and am moved by religious art. The most dramatic piece of art to view was the Pietà. It is such a powerful and moving piece of art for me. In its presence, I feel that God worked divinely through Michelangelo to create the Pietà and radiate HIS presence.

Tell us something that might surprise people: I like doing the laundry, the dishes, and now cooking. I find it therapeutic. Anything else you’d like to share? I enjoy the company of my neighbors, as well as my family, friends, and acquaintances who live in Esplanade. These people that I have encountered and that I am getting to know have, by their mere presence and positive energy, made this the very best place to live. Certain people in this community have given their time and efforts as volunteers. They have worked tirelessly to make Esplanade an even better place to live. I would like to thank them for their selfless efforts. In addition, I would like to thank Serena and her Team for their efforts to enhance our “Resort Lifestyle Experience.”

Attendees enjoyed a peaceful and rejuvenating salt cave experience focused on relaxation and overall wellness. Surrounded by the calming Himalayan salt cave environment, Members had the opportunity to unwind, experience halotherapy, and leave feeling refreshed, restored, and recharged.

Members enjoyed our 3rd Annual Wheels & Wonder Car Show, hosted by the Club Cars of Esplanade, featuring an impressive display of classic, custom, and specialty vehicles. The event brought the community together for a day of great conversation, beautiful cars, and delicious food from Dirty South Smoke Shack.

1 cup packed brown sugar 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted 2 large eggs, room temperature 1 cup apple cider or juice 1/4 cup chunky applesauce 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder Cinnamon Sugar: 1 cup sugar 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour a 10-in. fluted tube pan. Place sugar, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a food processor; process for 30 seconds. Transfer to a large bowl.

2. Beat in melted butter, eggs, apple cider, applesauce and vanilla until well blended. In another bowl, whisk flour and baking powder; gradually beat into sugar mixture. 3. Pour batter into a prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean, 45-50 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing. 4. In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over warm cake, pressing it onto the sides as needed. Let cool completely.

Social Activities for Singles Group Visiting the Museum of the American Arts The Social Activities for Singles Group recently enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement in St. Petersburg. It is the only museum in the world dedicated exclusively to the American Arts and Crafts movement and features an impressive collection of period furniture, pottery, decorative arts, and stunning architecture. The five-story building is a work of art itself, giving the group plenty to explore throughout their visit. Members began the day with lunch at the Arts Café, where the delicious desserts were an especially memorable treat. The gift shop also caught the attention of several attendees before the group wrapped up their visit. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience something new while spending time together, enjoying great conversation, and making memories with fellow Members. The Social Activities for Singles Group meets on the first Monday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Main Room at the Resort Amenity Center. Interested in joining? or the past three years, our community has donated more than 400 Holiday Gift Shoeboxes for qualified seniors in Manatee County through the Meals on Wheels Holiday Shoebox Campaign. One of the easiest ways to participate is by purchasing gifts through the Meals on Wheels Amazon Wish List. Simply shop for your items, and when you proceed to your cart, select the “MOW Address” shipping option to have your gifts sent directly to the Holiday Elves for collection and distribution. They’ll take care of the rest! Plan a Wrap Party Gather your friends and neighbors for a holiday wrap party! It’s a fun way to celebrate the spirit of giving while preparing holiday shoeboxes together. If you need empty shoeboxes, gift tags, or a few extra gifts to complete your boxes, the holiday elves are happy to help. Please follow these guidelines to ensure every shoebox is ready for inspection and delivery: • Wrap the top and bottom of the shoebox separately. • Do not use bows or ribbons, as shoeboxes are stacked for transportation. • Include 10 or more items and line the box with tissue paper • Secure the box with a rubber band. • Tape a tag labeled Male, Female, or Either under the rubber band.
