Derrick Borel YOUR SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT
A
s Esplanade at St. Marys continues to take shape, we’re excited to introduce one of the dedicated professionals helping bring our community to life, Derrick, your builder and construction leader. With more than three years in the new home construction industry and the support of an experienced team, Derrick brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and attention to detail to every home he builds. Throughout his time with Taylor Morrison, he has contributed to several successful communities, including Coopers Meadow, Amelia Walk, Kingsley Creek, Osprey Cove, Sabal Terrace, and Annies Walk. Now, he is excited to begin this next chapter at Esplanade at St. Marys and work alongside future homeowners as they create their dream homes. Before joining Taylor Morrison, Derrick proudly served in the United States Coast Guard for 24 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 2021. His military career took him through a variety of challenging assignments, including heavy weather search and rescue missions, drug and migrant interdiction, coastal security operations, and maintaining critical aids to navigation. One of Derrick’s most notable accomplishments was being named the United States Coast Guard Enlisted Person of the Year in 2004, a recognition that reflects his dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence. He also completed a deployment to Iraq, where he helped secure

local waterways and ensure critical relief supplies could reach ports and military personnel. The skills and values he developed during his military service—particularly attention to detail, integrity, and a strong work ethic—continue to guide him today as he helps families build their homes. Originally from Southeast Texas, Derrick’s Coast Guard career allowed him to live in incredible locations across the country before ultimately settling in Jacksonville, Florida, with his family. Derrick and his wife, whom he married in 2016, have a busy and active blended family with four children ranging in age from their teens to young adulthood. Much of their free time is spent cheering from the sidelines at baseball and soccer games or enjoying family time by the pool. Derrick is excited to meet future homeowners and guide them through the construction process at Esplanade at St. Marys. His combination of construction experience, military leadership, and dedication to customer service makes him a valuable part of the team. “I’m looking forward to getting to know each homeowner throughout the build process and helping create a home they can be proud of for years to come.” We are excited to have Derrick apart of the Esplanade at St. Marys team and look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on our community and Members throughout the homebuilding experience.

Furry Friends Meet Karma
LOVED BY KRISTEN & GAVIN At five years old, Karma, a German Shepherd with a larger-than-life personality, is always ready for her next adventure. Whether she’s swimming, kayaking, or hitting the hiking trails, Karma loves exploring the great outdoors with her family by her side. Don’t let her big bark fool you. While Karma is famously vocal and never shy about sharing her opinion, she’s also incredibly affectionate, playful, and especially loves spending time with kids. Family time is her favorite time, and she never wants to miss out on the action. One of Karma’s funniest quirks is her toy-selection process. She’ll carefully dig through her entire toy bin until she finds the exact toy she’s looking for, refusing all substitutes along the way! A true adventure companion from day one, Karma has shown everyone she meets that German Shepherds can be just as goofy and loving as they are loyal. With her infectious personality and endless enthusiasm, she brings smiles wherever she goes and remains a cherished member of the family.

Emanuel & Dr. Ashaki Noni Nichols The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. or Emanuel and Dr. Ashaki Noni Nichols, choosing Esplanade at St. Marys was about more than finding a beautiful place to live, it was about finding a community where they could continue to serve, connect, and build meaningful relationships in retirement. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Emanuel is a retired Army Major who concluded his military career in 2013. His wife, Dr. Ashaki, is from South Bend, Indiana, and wears many hats as a paralegal, podcaster, creator of Unfiltered Vision News, and founder of the USA Redemption Party. As they began planning for retirement, the couple carefully researched communities throughout Southeast Georgia. Esplanade at St. Marys quickly stood out as an ideal fit. “We saw Esplanade at St. Marys as an option that satisfies our retirement goals with the benefits of a small community.” Community has always been important to the Nichols’s. Through Emanuel’s military service and Ashaki’s work in media, advocacy, and public engagement, they have dedicated themselves to educating, supporting, and connecting with others. Their shared passion for service is one of the reasons they were drawn to the welcoming atmosphere and close-knit feel of Esplanade. Outside of their professional and civic endeavors, the couple enjoys karaoke, church activities, traveling, football, and fantasy football. Their love of travel has created countless memories, including a favorite trip to Italy. One of their most memorable experiences came unexpectedly from a vehicle breakdown in Nashville, Tennessee. “Our car broke down, and we made the best of a bad situation. It was wonderful, great food, and we had a great time doing karaoke at the Wild Beaver Saloon.”
As they prepare to move into their new home, Emanuel and Dr. Ashaki are excited about becoming active Members of the Esplanade community. They look forward to enjoying the resort-style amenities, meeting neighbors, participating in community events, and contributing their time, talents, and experience to help foster a vibrant and welcoming environment. For the Nichols’s, one of the most rewarding parts of the journey has been witnessing the community come to life alongside their future home. “This has been a wonderful experience having our home built from the ground up. Watching the roads develop along with the landscaping and golf course has confirmed that we made the right choice in choosing Esplanade at St. Mary’s.” With a passion for service, a love of adventure, and a genuine appreciation for community, Emanuel and Dr. Ashaki Noni Nichols are looking forward to making lasting memories and meaningful connections in their forever home at Esplanade at St. Marys.

Recent Event Exclusive Community Preview EVENT
On June 20, we proudly welcomed more than 80 guests to our Community Preview Event, officially introducing the community to VIPs, Founding Homebuyers, Real Estate Agents, St. Marys city officials, and valued partners from Rayonier. The event marked an exciting milestone as attendees celebrated the opening of The Exchange and the first nine holes of the championship golf course while experiencing firsthand the distinctive Esplanade Lifestyle. The morning began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Exchange, where Chris Trahan, Land Acquisition Director, and Mike Block, General Manager of Esplanade at St. Marys, shared the vision for the community and highlighted the lifestyle offerings that make Esplanade unique. Excitement continued as Mike Block, Lindsay Somers, Vice President of Sales, and several founding families officially cut the ribbon commemorating the opening of the community’s first nine holes. Guests then participated in a groundbreaking ceremony welcoming the community’s first Members and celebrating the bright future ahead. Division President Jeremy Hampson joined the Jacksonville team and City of St. Marys officials in recognizing the collaborative effort that helped bring this premier lifestyle community to life. Throughout the day, guests toured the model homes, explored the golf course, learned about the resort-style amenities and lifestyle programming, and connected with members of the Sales, Marketing, and Golf teams. Refreshments, champagne, signature logo cookies, swag bags, and prize drawings for Esplanade gift baskets added to the festive atmosphere.

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture and mix well. 2. Fold the apples and nuts into the cake batter. 3. Transfer the batter to a greased 13×9-inch baking pan. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack. 4. While the cake cools, beat together the cream cheese and butter in a small bowl. Add the confectioner’s sugar and slowly beat until smooth.
