My mother, not wanting to be nosy, waved her neighbor off and said, “Have fun!” Then, she called me. She asked, “What is a geriatrician…and do I need one?” We spent the next hour exploring the world of geriatrics, identifying what exactly a geriatrician is, how one differs from other doctors in the field and when it’s time to consider reaching out for the specialized skills and training a geriatrician offers.
