Chapter 5 We are deadly!
Six weeks later ...
While most are written or drawn, two students made films.
I’m very impressed with all your projects.
We’ll start with Zeke Wilson’s DVD. I think you’ll enjoy it.

This is my family. We might be different from other families. But we love and take care of each other.
I’m Maree and this my brother Justin, or J as we call him.
Our mum died and Dad couldn’t handle us.
So he brought us here to live with Nan and Pop. We been livin’ here ever since.
When Dad left, me, Zeke and Mum came to live here too.
We knew we would be safe here.
That’s Shoog and Lou Lou. They turned up one day and been livin’ here ever since.
We love havin’ our family around us.
It’s what families are for, eh? Bein’ there for one another.
We do lots of things together.
Every week durin’ footy season we go together to the game.
As you can hear, Nana makes the biggest noise at the football.
C’MON YOU FULLAS! KICK IT LONG FOR ONCE!
I used to play for the team in the old days.
That’s when I fell in love with him.
Nan and Pop make sure we know our culture. They tell us stories.
Three times a year we go on culture camp with our mob.
Our Elders tell us stories ’bout our mob and our Dreaming.
Sometimes they tell us scary stories ’bout the clever ones and the little hairy fullas.
Those stories scare the girls, so J played a trick and I filmed it.

NO! Pleeeeeaaasssee come with me.
Can’t you wait till morning?
OK, but don’t you leave my side.

What the?
made sure she filmed us gettin’ into trouble.
J and I got grounded for a week after that.
Now they want us to send it in to Funniest Home Videos!
We love ridin’ our bikes on the weekend.
Sometimes we look for bush bananas, quandongs and other bush tucker.
Sometimes we look for emu eggs for Nan and Pop to carve.
They teach us how to do it.
Maybe both our dads will come home. It would be good if Mum was still alive.
And Dad would come back.
That would be awesome!
Mum would like that and so would Nan and Pop.
But we all got each other.
And we’re all happy together, eh?
WE ARE FAMILY AND WE ARE DEADLY!
So that’s my family and I love them and I’m proud of them.
